Posted March 16, 200817 yr Are we causing global warming, or is it just the natural climate changes that the planet has experienced over thousands of years? Are we right to change the way we do things, or is it just the latest “in thing” a political sound bite. Is it just an excuse to apply taxes, to raise more money for Governments? Will you still use plastic bags for your shopping, will you buy a smaller greener car, will you keep flying to your holiday destination? Are you concerned about your carbon footprint? If some of us do reduce our carbon emissions but others don't are we wasting out time? Is it time for a real debate on this issue?
March 17, 200817 yr i doubt that its US that are causing it... recent history is littered with scare stories that have proved unfounded. in the 70's we were heading for an ice age, in the late 80's it was us destroying the ozone layer ... both of these doomsday scenarios are no longer vaunted as environmental catastrophies. theres good evidence to suggest that its the sun that causes our warming, by increased sunspots and solar flares. the sun doesnt burn at a constant level but varies in temps, its pretty obvious then that this will effect us..... besides the planet has always gone through periods of warming and cooling, long before we existed let alone burned carbon.
March 17, 200817 yr I think the whole global warming thing is massively overhyped but I do think there is an element of truth in it Extreme weather events in various parts of the world seem to be on the increase in recent years and the traditional 1970's style UK snow fests have all but been wiped out and replaced with 2 day topplers so the weird weather has to in my opinion be linked with some sort of warming but the hype is excessive
March 17, 200817 yr The world has seen way worse weather than what we are seeing now so i think it's just the earth doing its thing!
March 17, 200817 yr The world has seen way worse weather than what we are seeing now so i think it's just the earth doing its thing! I am old enough to remember some of the snowy winters of the 1970's and mid 1980's where snow would lie on the ground for weeks and there would be drifts of 12-15ft and a foot or more of lying snow so the fact that it is a miracle even in snowy areas like Scotland, Pennines, Newcastle etc if snow lasts on the ground more than 24 hrs that the climate has definitely got warmer, we had arctic conditions with blizzards and deep snow (Rob and Russ will remember), now it is like a 24 hr event before warm air moves in from the Atlantic so if that is not related to global warming / climate change I would be surprised
March 17, 200817 yr but climate change is a normal process people cant expect the weather to never change its just normal
March 17, 200817 yr but climate change is a normal process people cant expect the weather to never change its just normal I think the whole global warming hype is grossly overated and totally overblown by the media and left wing politicians but I do think there is an element of truth in what they say
March 17, 200817 yr the Earth goes through cycles like this over thousands of years. It's being completely overhyped by the media, and particularly by politicians who are looking for things they can tax for being 'green'.
March 17, 200817 yr I try not to pollute, but I think it is overhyped as well. Edited March 17, 200817 yr by Tyler
March 17, 200817 yr I'm concern with whats happening to our world...but I think plastic manufacturers should stop producing plastic and should produce paper bags instead. They also need to plant another tree/seed as replacement for trees they've cutout.
March 17, 200817 yr Global Warming is a load of bollocks. however, there are good things that can come out of the scaremongering the government are doing. c**p that goes to landfill needs to be reduced, and a push towards the use of more economical cars is a good thing as it leaves us with petrol for longer.
March 17, 200817 yr Global Warming is a load of bollocks. no it isnt... the globe IS warming, thats a fact, what isnt a fact though is human impact upon it... are we causing it?...
