One of the signature female artists/bands who was able to take the world by storm. Some may call her bland, some may call her generic, but boy is her voice soothing! :D Some may say her voice lacks the magic of Kate Bush's, but it's perfect for a Tuesday night in my opinion.

And tigerboy, she is moreso similar to Dido's tone than Annie Lennox. Sade's done a few excellent albums in my mind:

01 - Love Deluxe

02 - Stronger Than Pride

03 - Lovers Rock

04 - Promise

05 - Diamond Life

All are excellent. Well Promise is excellent, and Diamond Life is pretty okay.

She has so many excellent singles but I have to go with Paradise: all the verses in that song are excellent, especially this stanza:

I'd wash the sand off the shore

Give you the world if it was mine

Blow you right to my door

Mmm Feels fine

the first album was good, but she became a bit bland after that. I voted for When Am I Gonna Make A Living, it's the one single from the first album that hasn't been overplayed on the oldies stations! In fact I don't think the local oldies station plays it at all - its always the same two songs from that album that they play...

Found her very dull tbh, fair comparison with Dido they are both boring as f**K

If I had to choose a song of hers as a fave I would go for Sweetest Taboo but even then it was hardly inspiring stuff

her last album, Lover's Rock, was her finest - it's a gorgeous, lushly produced masterpiece. King of Sorrow is my favourite Sade single - stunning.
I like almost all Sade' singles but right now my fave is By Your Side

not a fan of Sade at all a bit dull for me
Haven't heard all her stuff, but from what I have, it's Smooth Operator for me.

er???

when did that come up before???

was it about sade or lennox??? prob about some kinda mumrock easy soul type that my mum likes. anyway saying that my mum has got dido on cd and like eurthmics - so i guess its all relevant and in the same kinda area of easiness.

or was it about Absolute Beginners and all those soulful smooth radio types who wanted to be 1950s hepcats in their soho jazz bars (EBTG go bossa, style council sip cappuccino)

btw i think Estelle - that sounds like something from this kinda era/genre - perhaps weekend?? (if they are the jazz-funker who did a record with ebtg) - estelle's 1980 was much beter

I love Sade, hard to believe she is in her 50's now! She looks not a day over 30.

I voted for Never As Good as the First Time.

I was very pleased to see her get a #1 album earlier this year, her first in about 24 years. :cheer:

Bumping some old thread here :kink: but I was listening to 'Smooth Operator' the other day. Really smooth no pun intended. I've not heard much else from her apart from this, YLIK and some others from my dad playing an album of hers some 20 year ago lol can't remember what it's called now but SO is great.

Also on topic of Sade from looking up on Wikipedia YLIK was her biggest hit here yet flopped in US whereas SO was a her biggest hit in the states yet flopped here! Unusual fact.

Edited by Roba.

No Ordinary Love is my fav single of hers

Smooth Operator didn't flop in the UK, didn't do as well as single #1 cos people bought the album instead, it was the album's 3rd single

but still peaked at #19

Bt all her albums are amazing, I'd recommend listening to all her albums, rather than singles, she's much more than the singles
