I'm in total agreement on that last part. The Matthews family do seem to be of limited intelligence if they really thought they'd get away this though and I do feel for the right mess they've got themselves into.

 

But at the end of the day ... I'd rather have the headlines in the papers telling us that the child is alive (no matter how absurd the scenario) than wake up to the news of another child-murder.

This just gets more bizarre by the day. Im starting to think Shannon, the Matthews family, that Donovan guy, Yorkshire Police and the newspapers all decided to put on a real-life soap opera to entertain us all.

 

In all seriousness though, its not certain that this whole abduction was staged. All that seems pretty certain is that Karen Matthews knew her whereabouts for atleast a part of her disappearance... I actually remember reading something about Karen having an affair with Donovan, so perhaps, when she found out he had Shannon, he blackmailled her by saying hed tell her husband about it if she went to the police? It would still have been incredibly selfish and cruel of her not to report him, but not as cold-heartedly evil as staging the whole abduction wouldve been. That is a feasible scenario.

not strictly true.... the sites visited are logged both with time and date, so to suggest the police fitted him up is nonsense. the only people capeable of putting porn on his pc are the people who have access to it at the time these sites were visited.

One of these days, a judge will throw out a case on the grounds that press coverage has been prejudicial to the defendant's chances of a fair trial. Part of me hopes this will be the case. There's no reason to believe Karen Matthews is a dangerous criminal so maybe this is a chance for the press to be taught a lesson.

Actually, I have to say I'm in total agreement with this post... It really is about time the Media in this country started acting with a bit more restraint and common sense with regards to criminal trials... I dont particularly like ANY of the players in this particular, sleazy little soap opera (and you all know my feelings about the McCanns...), but frankly, the Press deserve a judicial black eye here. It really does need some Judge, somewhere to have a bit of courage and make the ruling and send out a very firm message to the Tabloid Media in this country, even if it does mean a possibly guilty person gets away with a crime...
