I think 1/3 of their votes is massively severe and sort of takes the fun out the competition really, I'd hate to be a country that won be default through other countries being penalised.

apparently in the first competition, 75% was deducted from the scores of the countries that didn't vote...

You are at a huge advantage though if you don't vote... time and time again we've seen the top two decided by just a few points, so everyone's votes make a difference. ^_^ It also encourages people to vote more and, like GD said, someone was deducted 75% in the second one I believe! :o

not sure what to do here...all I will say is that at least one of the non-voters is doing well but isn't it their own fault if they don't vote? Everyone else has had too...if they dont' have a deduction then they have an instant advantage over everyone else...my original plan was to deduct 12 points...I could reduce it to 20% I suppose...
then I shall not complain  It's just a shame the competition could be spoiled by penalties - This isn't F1!

the real Eurovision often sees penalties...were Croatia not deducted 33% in 1999 for using synthesized backing vocals?

Ashton has sent their votes.

very close votes there was an unusually high standard tho there were two outright winners,

u needed 75% to score 1pt, previously i have seen a song with 50% get onto the points list.

I agree, I would say most of the songs here deserved at least one point! Great songs were selected this time around...plus there are 24 competitors this time around...in BJSC4 there were only 20 so less songs to distribute your points to

Martyn, you gave the same country 1 and 3 points :kink: if you let me know before 2pm which one you would like to change, I will amend your votes...if not then I will give the country in question 3 points and the one point won't go to anyone :P

good to see votes are still coming in! 1 hour and 50 minutes left to vote for these countries:

Bhangra

Singing Gods Land

Leonville

Gacktistan

Kopecka

I've decided in light of the conversation in this thread to reduce the deduction for not voting to 20%...there needs to be some sort of penalty but perhaps 33% was a tad too harsh as Brunoboi said...having said that, its better to vote than to lose a fifth of your points :P

 I thought in exactly the opposite way that you will increase the percentage of penalty to something about 50  And 20% wouldn't be enough for me :P

20% is where its staying now Pavel :P

I can't believe in the first contest they deducted 75% for no voters :o it should be more about the songs I suppose rather than the lazy people who don't vote...and if the most voted for song ended up at about 18th it would be completely unrepresentative of the contest as a whole...I don't think 20% will have too much of an effect but also they will regret not voting if it keeps them from a top 10 position or something (and qualification for the next contest)

well at the end of the day everyone knows the rules about voting, it's not as if the dates of the vote have only just been released

If you don't vote, your boat won't float :kink:

I know  I announced the dates about a month ago now...you can't expect people to vote for you and not vote for anybody in return...so there has to be a penalty really...

I think a few of the countries that haven't voted only joined Buzzjack to do this competition so its a shame they must have forgotten about it...I sent PM reminders to everyone so if they don't check them then its their own fault...I can't see me receiving anymore votes in the next half an hour and still five countries are yet to vote :o

if you don't vote for anybody it would increase the possibility of your winning much so there MUST be a penalty ^_^

I imagine if one of the real ESC countries forgot about the voting

didn't a computer randomly 'invent' the votes for Albania one year because so few people phoned up to vote that they couldn't recognise it :o
