April 17, 200817 yr Do people seriously think anything would've done better than Touch My Body?! There's so much more to picking a single than just how good the song is. Um, like what? Migrate would have gone straight to #1 and would still be there right now, and for weeks to come. Migrate was the obvious choice.
April 18, 200817 yr Um, like what? Migrate would have gone straight to #1 and would still be there right now, and for weeks to come. Migrate was the obvious choice. Um, like connecting with the public? Mariah herself has said that E=MC2 is the natural successor to TEOM, so it makes sense to go with a song which shares the general sound of TEOM's hits. Touch My Body has dollops of Shake It Off, whereas Migrate sounds like nothing from TEOM, and so to go with TMB is hugely safer. On top of that she got universal praise for the music video for being so much fun; could a video for a dark song like Migrate have been anywhere near that light? I doubt it! On top of THAT, TMB is perfect for US radio - whether or not Migrate is the better song, the fact remains that nothing could be more suited to American radio than Touch My Body. Pop radio may not have embraced Migrate to the same extent at all! I don't think Migrate would have done anywhere near as well. At all.
April 18, 200817 yr It's finally happened. I didn't think it would but I was listening to it today and some of the songs just clicked. I'll post a review up eventually :w00t:

I'll post a review up eventually :w00t: Took your time! :P I was really worried about this album when I heard she was working with T-Pain and Young Jeezy but it's just amazing.
April 18, 200817 yr Do people seriously think anything would've done better than Touch My Body?! There's so much more to picking a single than just how good the song is. I am so with you. Touch My Body is not a brilliant song but it was the perfect intro - Mariah having a bit of fun. Completely set the tone for the album.
April 19, 200817 yr Well, TMB totally turned me off from the whole album. Thank God Mariah is an icon, because the song wouldn't have gone top ten without that simple fact. Would have missed the top 40 in the UK without her name on it. Edited April 19, 200817 yr by Tyler
April 19, 200817 yr Glad you see what I mean Tim! :P And Tyler, isnt that the case with nearly every song on the charts? Gimme More wouldn't be a hit by some unknown; songs get radio play based as much on who theyre by as the song itself. Thats how things work, so its a given that the song wouldnt be Top10 in the hands of any1 else.
April 21, 200817 yr We haven't heard what either of our Mariah mods think of the album yet. :o Do tell John/Kieran. :P
April 21, 200817 yr Thought I may aswell post my review I'm gonna post on the fansite. 1. Migrate - What can I say! Danja is hot right now and I'm glad Mariah used him instead of good old boring generic Timbaland. It is most definately a stand out track. What I love the bit when 'Migrate' is repeated in the background. T-Pain fits in very well. I usually can not stand the rap 'breaks' in her songs but find it enjoyable in this song. Can't imagine this doing too well in the U.K though - 10/10 2. Touch My Body - What a dissapointment when I first heard this when it leaked. I thought, as most people, it was a boring, bland, safe.. everything you don't want a 'comeback' to be. However it does grow on you, especially with the Seamus and Haji Remix they seem to be hammering in the clubs! Love this now and am glad it was the lead single, wouldn't have said that a month ago though. Mariah is lucky this was a 'hit'. - 9/10 3. Cruise Control - What an interesting song. Damian Marley isn't someone you'd imagine Mariah to be singing with. This is a really fun song though, I love Mariah's little Jamacian accent. Find myself singing along to this song sometimes, I personally love this song but doubt it'd bare well as even a 4th or 5th single. - 9/10 4. I Stay In Love - When the clips first surfaced this song was the one I was most excited about. I like the way Mariah uses her voice in a more emotive way, she doesn't over sing the song and doesnt warble too much and try to keep a note too long. I think alot of people can relate to this song and should be a single somewhere down the line (and imagine it will be). - 10/10 5. Side Effects - My favourite on the album, joint with Bye Bye. The lyrics could have been a bit more complex, but there again Mariah would have watered them down so more people can relate to them. This is about as personal Mariah gets, and Young Jeezy fits in well. Doubt this will be a single though, it seems to be a 'song for the fans'. I'm really surprised Mariah didn't write a simular song for an album such as Butterfly though. Why keep it until now? - 10/10 6. I'm That Chick - Oo what a surprise, Mariah goes back to doing pop! It's a fun song which you find yourself singing without even realising it. Even though it's a bit cheesy, comparing yourself to ice cream it's just a fun song. I can imagine this will be a single and the clubs will eat it up (well at least the ones I go to..). This is a grower and is slowly turning into a highlight on the album for me. - 9/10 7. Love Story - After hearing the clip I started to get excited for this song. But then came the CD and I played it and it's just a boring, J.D produced filler. I always skip this song. Nothing special at all. - 4/10 8. I'll Be Lovin' You Long Time - This song is getting alot of attention from people who don't usually like Mariah around here. I'm really hoping this will be a single, it's perfect for summer. Again it's just Mariah having fun, while trying to be as commercial as she can of course. - 10/10 9. Last Kiss - Originally a song I just skipped because as with Love Story, I found it to be a bit fillerish. So I made myself listen to it 10 times to make myself like it and it did work in the end. It's not amazing, but it's ok. - 7/10 10. Thanx For Nothin' - What is the point of J.D at the beginning of this song? Why does he feel the need to say stupid one liners in a few of the songs. It's very annoying. However this is a sort of semi-ballad which I like very much. But the line 'I don't even know what to say' is a bit.. hm you know lol she could have thought of something better I'm sure. I love this song though and is a definate stand out track on the album. It's about someone getting played and a lot of my friends seem to like this song too so maybe when she releases ballad number 2 this or I Stay In Love will be in the running. - 9/10 11. O.O.C - This song is ok I guess. It's not a song I really listen to but it's not a filler or a bad song. I like the bit where she says 'it's forever' over and over in that funny voice. - 8/10 12. For The Record - When I hear this song all I can imagine is Mariah rolling around in that pool and putting perfume on her chest wrapped in a blanket, thank you perfume advert. It's a very unusual song, especially the sequence at the beginning. I'm glad this song made the album because it's different to anything else on the album. It is another favourite of mine after you get over the imagine of a 1/2 naked Mariah rolling around in a pool with her hair stuck to her head. - 9/10 13. Bye Bye - the 2nd single! When I first heard this, as with Touch My Body I was completely underwhelmed. I've listened to this over and over and am now in love with it. I don't think many people will love this song instantly but I'm sure it will bare well as a 2nd single due to the lyrics. I find myself singing this song to myself all the time which is getting a bit annoying now. Mariah even shows a 'little' emotion in this song which is usually not present in any of her ballads. - 10/10 14. I Wish You Well - Another surprise. Sounds like something straight off Music Box. When I first heard it I loved it, but it got boring, fast. This is the only song where Mariah really shows off her voice in the whole album. I've heard many comparisons to Fly Like A Bird but I do not personally see it apart from the bible verses being read. It shows that she really can still hold a note and is reminicent of Vanishing, one of the best songs she's ever done. - 8/10 15. Heat - I love this song! I love how bitchy it is and when Mariah says 'You think I won't come out of These heels and make it clear, ho? You think I won't f*ck up my hair and take it, b*tch?' it makes me laugh. I was apprehensive when I heard she was working with Will.I.Am but he's done this song justice. Mariah is making fun and bitching about another girl who wants her man, we've all been there in some way or another. It's just a fun song that makes me laugh everytime I hear it - 9/10 -Bonus Track- 4 Real 4 Real - It's a bit.. boring. There's not much you can say about this. It's nice but it's not a song I make a habit of listening to. - 5/10 Overall I really do love this album. But my question is where is the voice? Mariah's voice has been slowly deteriotating and with every 'era' in her career it seems to get worse (as can be seen by her recent 'live' preformances). Mariah has toned it down for this album which works well, but a few of the J.D songs sound the same and let the album down. However this is now one of my favourite Mariah albums and I'm sure it will remain that. It's not really bringing anything new to the music scene but it's enjoyable and it has been worth the wait.
April 30, 200817 yr Shall be doing it soon. I need a few more listens before I can really comment on an album. ;)
May 4, 200817 yr Ok since my review every song but Last Kiss and Cruise Control have grown on me also: 15. Heat - Great song can see why its a bonus track but at the same time it makes me laugh lol - 8/10 16. 4real4real - Boring really dont get anything about it - 3/10 Overall like I said was never a Mariah fan but this album is amazing and i now rate it 9.5/10 :D.
