Posted April 8, 200817 yr Thought it'd be appropriate to post this here as well: Source: NME.com Babyshambles frontman Pete Doherty has been jailed for 14 weeks for failing to turn up to probation hearings on time and drug use. Doherty attended West London Magistrates Court today (April 8), where Judge Davinder Lachar handed the singer/guitarist the sentence. A spokesperson for the court said that Doherty had been jailed for "breach of time keeping, non-compliance of his order and using different drugs". Doherty had been given a suspended jail sentence for possession of drugs and driving illegally in October last year. His supervision order required him to make regular visits to court for progress reports, as well as take part in a drug rehabilitation programme. He was threatened with up to four months in jail if he broke the law during this period. A spokesperson for Doherty told NME.COM that he was looking into grounds for appeal. The 14-week sentence would not only cover the singer's solo show at the Royal Albert Hall in London (April 26), but the Glastonbury (June 27-29) festival, which he is due to play. His label, Parlophone, explained the solo show will be postponed but it "is due to be rescheduled and all tickets will be valid for the new date once it has been announced. Peter was very much looking forward to the show and would like to offer his sincerest apologies to all his fans and all those concerned". What do you think of this sentence? Will other celebrities face tougher sentences in the future? Is jail really right for him? Well he's been there before and I'm extremely upset he's gone in again not that I'm saying he doesn't deserve it but he's actually done a brilliant job at actually keeping himself ALIVE and Amy Winehouse deserves to go to jail just as much as he does but I suppose this country has been brainwashed as she's 'pop' and by the fact the Sun and the Mirror report him as a 'monster' for every small little he does and people who think he's 'thick', 'a t***' or 'talentless' need to stop reading those papers  But is sending a drug addict to jail a good thing? Will it help him? Or will he just get more access to drugs? Anyway this man has made more of an impact on the music scene in the 21st century than anyone, fact! And there are many people and that very much includes me who absolutely adore him because of the music he makes from The Libertines AND Babyshambles (well apart from some of the mess that was Down In Albion) I have seen Babyshambles live where Pete has turned up (unfortunately never The Libertines  ) and when he's got nothing in his system the man is brilliant frontman and knows how to put on a show, he's been going in the right direction lately in terms of getting better and hopefully he can continue to go that way when he gets out but I suppose he'll never win because the whole thing with the tabloids and their treatment of him and comparing it to Winehouse to Sun readers he'll always be a hate figure but here's to hoping when he gets out that he can stick two fingers up and I truly believe and hope he can. See you at Reading Peter! *Builds protective for from Sun readers and people who are fans of manufactured popstars having the nerve to call someone talentless*
April 8, 200817 yr 14 weeks? That's nothing. If it were good old joe public he'd go away for a long time
April 8, 200817 yr tbh im not bothered. if hes too dumb to take the help offered then be it on his own head.
April 8, 200817 yr I use to rant about him ages ago, but.. If he wants to do drugs, then just let him. If Wino wants to get smashed of her head, then let her. The Rock N Roll industry has been drug filled for the last 60 years, and some of the worlds greatest music was written, composed and performed when the artists where off their head. So erm, yeah.

Yeah ^, but what I'm saying is is that if he wants to take drugs, and if that makes him 'happy'?, then let him. It's his own life he's waisting, and it shouldn't have to affect or bother any of us.

It's his own life he's waisting, and it shouldn't have to affect or bother any of us. but it doesnt work like that. he doesnt have any effect on me at all, but is seen as a role model by some younger more impressionable people. he has a responsibility to his fans.
April 8, 200817 yr Author NME's 'Hero of the Year' anyone...? -_- Yes, Hero Of The Year thank you <_< He's come a hell of a long way in the past year and made one of the best albums of last year! Considering the state he was in not so long ago and how it evidentally affected him to record the last Shambles album I think he deserved that! Btw all you people talking about being a 'role model' I think you will all find that most fans know not to take drugs after seeing the effects it had on him! The Sun are gonna make a huge deal of this but it's FUNNY HOW Amy Winehouse will be portrayed as being so innocent isn't it?

April 8, 200817 yr Is this just stupid or what, how are you going to get him off drugs if you put him in jail. He will get even more in there for crying out loud. :w00t:
April 9, 200817 yr He's really bizzare, I've not seen or heard about him for a while, but he seemed like he was genuinely cleaning up and staying out of trouble. And I agree with Nicky, I hate how the majority of the media, and the public for that matter, always say they should lock him up and throw away the key but when it's Winehouse who's doing practically the same thing it's all 'awww, bless. isn't it awful?'.
April 9, 200817 yr Grandwicky, I've never read such blinkered tripe. Pete Doherty was arrested more times last year than I remember. People have been very patient with him, but there comes a time when the get out of jail free cards run out. Remember, he was caught with large amounts of Class A drugs on him, driving while intoxicated and driving while banned. All Amy Winehouse has done is allow her press people to leak photographs of her to the gutter press - nothing in the league of Pete Doherty. Plus his music is horrendously overrated. So's her's mind you.

So's her's mind you. Spot on Richie.. Frankly, I dont give a sh!t if he wants to destroy himself with drink and drugs, but if you get behind the wheel of a car in that state, it ceases to be just about you and becomes a problem for others; and 'Wicky, your blind hero-worship of this utter waste of skin is pathetic to be honest, you rightly slagged off Paris Hilton, and yet defend this total arsehole who's not only a danger to himself but to pedestrians, other road users and his deluded fans as well (Yeah, shall we'll just forget the picture of him about to inject a needle into the arm of a passed out, probably underage female fan? Shall we just forget about the fact that he squirted a needle full of his own, vile junkie blood at a journalist who "pissed him off" a bit? Shall we just forget about the two underage girls he and his bandmates virtually abducted from a gig and drove off with for hundreds of miles..? Fukk that.. Jail is where this b/astard belongs until he straightens his life out and ceases to be a danger to others...). I could actually perhaps almost forgive most of this if anything of any musical worth came forth from Doherty... But it simply doesn't and hasn't and never will...... A stunning example of utter mediocrity hyped and elevated to completely undeserved heights, the very definition of an NME "artiste" in the 00s.... <_<
April 10, 200817 yr Ha good news, I don't see how anyone could Idolise him, it is beyond me
April 10, 200817 yr Ha good news, I don't see how anyone could Idolise him, it is beyond me  Well mate, dont be acting all high and mighty here, I know better  . You're the one who on another thread seems to rate that bloody awful Kerry Katona show..... :P :P I'd say Katona is probably the worse of the two....
April 10, 200817 yr I think its a laugh thats all, plus theres no proof shes taking drugs anymore, but yeah she is brainless and talentless.
