July 6, 200817 yr Damn shame it only reached No.54 today. It really deserved better. But what do you expect with zero promotion and minimal airplay.
July 7, 200817 yr With a terrible, lazy video and next to no promotion, what did they expect? Now let's hope this era dies a death and we can move on to an album which actually merits repeat listenings. There's bugger all wrong with the album Jark, you just dont get it.... :P  "Caravan Girl" is the weakest link on "Seventh Tree", but even a duff Goldfrapp single still beats about 95% of the sh!te that does make the Top 40.... And why am I not surprised at the minimal airplay...I reckon there really IS an anti-Goldfrapp/Portishead conspiracy going on I reckon within the incredibly London-Centric Radio 1 and X-Fm.... -_-
July 7, 200817 yr Author Radio 1 anti-Goldfrapp? They did A-list the ultra-uncommercial Happiness :heehee: And there's nothing to 'get' - I don't like the album's mind-numbing samey floatyness, and you do. That's that!
July 7, 200817 yr Radio 1 do playlist all of their singles, but I do agree with Grimy on the Portishead thing... they are easily superior to Goldfrapp and their recent album puts Seventh Tree to shame, but for some reason they get pretty much ignored. :(
July 7, 200817 yr I'm definitely with Jark on 'Seventh Tree'. It's been pretty much cast aside for me now, I care for it very little. :(
July 7, 200817 yr I don't agree that Happiness was uncommercial though - despite the poor chart showing :P
July 7, 200817 yr I don't agree that Happiness was uncommercial though - despite the poor chart showing :P I agree, I think 'Happiness' was quite commercial compared to most of the album.
July 7, 200817 yr Now let's hope this era dies a death and we can move on to an album which actually merits repeat listenings. You have an album that merits many repeat listenings - it's called Seventh Tree. Second best album of the year, Goldfrapp's second best album..... finally, after the majestic Felt Mountain, and two seriously duff albums, Goldfrapp release an album worthy of playing again and again that truly backs up their iconic status.
July 7, 200817 yr I personally think Goldfrapp's two 'landmark' albums are Felt Mountain and Black Cherry. Although I really like all four albums, they really found a niche in both styles displayed on these albums. Seventh Tree is a lesser and more commercial Felt Mountain, and the same with Supernature to Black Cherry IMO.
July 8, 200817 yr You have an album that merits many repeat listenings - it's called Seventh Tree. Second best album of the year, Goldfrapp's second best album..... finally, after the majestic Felt Mountain, and two seriously duff albums, Goldfrapp release an album worthy of playing again and again that truly backs up their iconic status. "Black Cherry" aint a duff album at all man..... I'll give you "Supernature" though, it's cr@p, seriously shallow and meaningless....
July 8, 200817 yr they are easily superior to Goldfrapp and their recent album puts Seventh Tree to shame, but for some reason they get pretty much ignored. :( I'll certainly agree on that one... Portishead are the true visionaries from this particular area of music. I reckon they've defined it even more than Massive Attack have tbh.... Not even Massive could've come up with an album like "Third" on their best day..... Taking a step back for a decade has seriously worked for Portishead in terms of their art, they are now pretty much untouchable and stand as the best band in Britain at the moment.... ...Of course this could all change if My Bloody Valentine drop a huge atomic bomb on us this year...... The Roundouse show I went to was frankly astonishing.....
July 9, 200817 yr There's bugger all wrong with the album Jark, you just dont get it.... :P  "Caravan Girl" is the weakest link on "Seventh Tree", but even a duff Goldfrapp single still beats about 95% of the sh!te that does make the Top 40.... Portishead are the true visionaries from this particular area of music. I reckon they've defined it even more than Massive Attack have tbh.... Not even Massive could've come up with an album like "Third" on their best day..... havent heard all of third yet - but from like stuff like machine gun - but i guess that 100th Window was 3d's attempt??

Taking a step back for a decade has seriously worked for Portishead in terms of their art, they are now pretty much untouchable and stand as the best band in Britain at the moment.... That album is Mezzanine... B) Better than anything Portishead did (their albums are amazing too) IMO Of course you can have your own opinion ...Of course this could all change if My Bloody Valentine drop a huge atomic bomb on us this year...... They should come with something at least good as Loveless. Also their sound is very 90s... (I don't know how successful they can be 17 years since Loveless) Who knows, maybe this album will be the album of the year Edited July 11, 200817 yr by Alin
July 11, 200817 yr That album is Mezzanine... B) Better than anything Portishead did (their albums are amazing too) IMO Of course you can have your own opinion I absolutely LOVE "Mezzanine" don't get me wrong (my fave Massive album by a mile..), I just think "Third" is just that little bit more.... I was probably wrong to kind of set these amazing artists against one another tbh, they both create absolutely astounding music which towers over just about 99.9% of everything else that's out there in the UK....
July 11, 200817 yr I think Mezzanine is more comparable in style to the album Portishead - maybe as they were released within a year of each other....
July 12, 200817 yr Now if we're talking about Portishead & Massive Attack on a Goldfrapp thread, :P I want t say something: Massive Attack will come to my country on 2 August! :yahoo: (The opening act is Martina Topley-Bird. She also featured on Tricky's albums, esp. Maxinquaye) I absolutely LOVE "Mezzanine" don't get me wrong (my fave Massive album by a mile..), I just think "Third" is just that little bit more.... tbh I should listen to Third more (I'm slightly biased since I listened to Mezzanine more than any Portishead album). Also I think it's a huge bonus to find two fantastic voices (Beth Gibbons & Liz Fraser) on such amazing albums! I was probably wrong to kind of set these amazing artists against one another tbh, they both create absolutely astounding music which towers over just about 99.9% of everything else that's out there in the UK.... What other bands/artists are at the same level as MA / P?
July 12, 200817 yr I would have to side with Jark... nothing has interested me at all with this record. I even dislike A&E... which is most likely the best track from the album...
July 12, 200817 yr You only have to listen to either 'The Rip' or 'Up!' (M83) to see other bands can do the feel and sound of this record... much better.
July 13, 200817 yr What other bands/artists are at the same level as MA / P? Radiohead and Spiritualized are two that spring to mind..... As far as UK music goes.... My Bloody Valentine as well, IF they get their asses in gear and actually release that third record sometime this century..... Primal Scream, when they're not being lazy and just copying The Stones...
