I like the single very much. Is a lot more up-tempo to some of their previous songs and it sounds like a song that would be very suited to a stadium. Their sound hasn't changed much at all which is unsuprising really, I think the single has so far generated positive reviews so I think that this will bode well for the album. Loads of bands at the moment seem to be doing this method of giving away the 1st single away for free - not sure whether it works though! Might possibly for Coldplay, but that's because they're Coldplay. :lol:

Yes I tried it last night before I went to bed but no one had uploaded it yet...And I can't check this morning as I'm at uni in the library doing research. :P

Same here... But my dad has some download program named ares and yesterday around 8pm Violet hill was there... if you cant download it, let me now and i'll give you my email or msn and i'll send you...

 

And I love violet hill. it's a new coldplay in a way but than again in some parts it's that same old coldplay whom we all love....

Finally got the email, its a great song I reckon. The music is more upbeat but Chris' singing hasn't changed which is good. Can't wait for the album ^_^

I think its excellent - and I like how they have changed their sound slightly, but only a little bit. I'm not sure I would like them if they went all experimental anyway (Radiohead - note!)

 

It is on youtube, but keeps on getting taken down - and my e-mail hasn't turned up yet either :arrr:

Coldplay Violet Hill Single review: what is the verdict?

 

 

The new single from Coldplay called Violet Hill was released today and is the first single from their upcoming album Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends. So what should we expect from the new album then? Well there are some stomping guitar chords which Chris Martin sings to perfectly and the great thing about the album is how hushed Martin’s vocals are.

 

The first single as I said is Violet Hill and starts off with a synthesizer that bubble away which then lends itself in guitar fuzz. It all starts of quietly and then slowly manages to fill the room, all the while we hear the background noise of white noise and if you don’t like it tough, as it is a bit of a theme on the whole album.

 

Then there are the vocals from frontman Chris Martin, he starts of singing about “a long and dark December/ From the rooftops I remember there was snow.” That’s when things then pickup and starts to stomp, it is a startling change from a whimsy start then to powerful pounding muscular guitar and piano chords.

 

However; it does not stop there the momentum seems to build and build until we reach the point where guitarist Jonny Buckland gives a guitar solo, Buckland then brings things down again with a smooth and sexy midsection with a little crooning from Martin in the background.

 

Violet Hill is a great first single from Coldplay’s new album, if you have heard the new single please let us know what you think.

Im not at all suprised that the song Premiered and everything while I was on Holiday LMAO!

Gotta say, I flamin love it. Absolutely my most anticipated album of this year :P

It's a good song but not great imo. I am a little disapointed. I was hoping there was going to be a whole new sound but this is'nt really that different. It would've been nice to see them experiment more imo.

I didn't like this on first listen. Then two days later found myself singing it in my head. Listened again and really love it!

 

Hope the wait for the album is not to long. :D

 

Seriously, I think Viva La Vid is going to be such a good record, I really can't wait for it now!

 

I don't often say this much and i'll admit I wasn't keen on the track Viva La Vida at first, but it's such a beautiful track. Both the tracks i've heard from the album are excellent. The album should be HUGE. Another million seller from them hopefullyy.

I just downloaded and played the track Viva La Vida - it is just superb! If the album is up to this standard, then I will a very happy Jester :lol:

Album is the top album on UK iTunes too! - and it's only people pre-ordering it at the moment!

 

This album shall be HUGE.

I am very pleased that Violet Hill is #1 on i-tunes at the mo, and Viva La Vid is #3! :o
