I would ask why the BBC decided to have two people doing a show that one person was more than able to do, but then I remembered something else - for whatever reason, they've decided that the 1pm, 6pm and 10pm news shows need a different reporter for the same news item in the same place.

We also have to remember that this is the same company who, when hosting Eurovision in 1998, decided to have the commentator also do some presenting duties.

I would be likely to think, that the BBC in their infinate wisdom, were trying to copy the "A" List, and Hit40uk", who previously also had 2 co-presenters, on their progammes. Where the BBC top 40 is concerned, a lot of their ideas were actually poached from other stations, because the BBC have no idea, of their own. Constantly they waste licence payers money, when they should be made to take advertising or some other form of revenue.

absolutely - they do not provide a service to the public that funds them!!!

this chart show of the BBC's will in time go the same way as Top Of The Pops did...they weren't interseted in that and are just the same with the radio show

Firstly, I think the problem with the chart show now is that it lacks any sense of surprise.

Well i think there is surprise. Who could of predicted Nickelback reaching number 2 in around February since it had been in the chart since October, but then again, it gets annoying hearing a song over and over again.

Back in the days when it was known as the Pepsi Chart they used to run 3 phone in competitions each week with 1 caller before the Top 30, one before the Top 20 and one just before the Top 10

Radio 1 then started having phone in competitions

Hit40UK brought in 2 presenters (though they quickly realised it wasn't working and ditched the idea)

Soon after Radio 1 brought in JK & Joel

Hit40UK stopped playing all 40 songs in the chart, leaving out less popular airplay tracks (eg just playing short clips of artists like Elvis and Daniel O'Donnell)

Radio 1 dropped the idea of playing all 40 songs in the chart.

If anyone from the Radio 1 Chart Show happens to be reading this.....

Hit40UK has just one presenter who doesn't spend 3 hours talking c**p

They play all 40 songs in the chart and announce all positions immediately before or after each song - ALWAYS before in the case of new entries

They count down the Top 10 albums

They carry out interviews with the stars - these are in relation to their latest releases, live shows, musical influences etc; not "what is your favourite colour?"

They fit in 2 or 3 new releases each week as well

All this and they are still obliged to fit in commercial breaks.

I think the OCC needs to introduce another chart shake up, I am so sick of Nickleback hanging around and being played week after week after week after week...for me the problem with the chart isnt so much to do with F&R but more to with how the chart is compiled.

It's hardly the fault of the OCC if a people like a song enough to keep buying it for ages. IMO it would be far worse to exclude such songs in favour of something that is selling *less*.

Besides, the current longevity issues are to do with downloads, and would not be greatly affected under the old exclusion rules. Especially farcical now would be the rule whereby records got excluded soon after CD deletion, given that CD sales now make up just 4% of the market...

And they probably don't have people texting in saying what should be No1.

I`m sorry to say they do, as well. It`s all very well going on about Hit40uk, but that chart is ridiculously compiled with 50/50 percent, of both Sales/Airplay...then the top 10 is just the official sales top 10, which makes it even dafter. Yes, they have more listeners than the BBC (but that is mainly because, the listeners of that, have their radio permanently tuned to their Local Independant Station). As more Independant Stations, take Hit40uk, it`s going to have more listeners anyway. Then, there is Lucio (the presenter), he is not that good, and makes lots of mistakes, with info...very much like the gruesome twosome of Radio One! Given the edge, I prefer to listen to Hit40uk, but it ain`t that good because of the way the chart is compiled and the presentation is pretty bad too. Repetibly saying "What`s Gonna Be Number One?"....Oh Janet of Stoke says, it will be....(some song, that hasn`t a chance)!
