it was on jo whiley today... sounded fair..

maybe if girls aloud or/and the sugababes called it a day there would be a niche in the market the saturdays could fill...

I can't believe this has 23 pages.

why not?... its one of the best threads this forum has seen and imho is what a proper forum should be doing.

first thoughts are 'sweet dreams my la ex'...

Indeed it does sound a bit like a cheap rip off of it.

Surely it won't be the second single, i had hoped i was wrong by judging them just on hearing 'If This Is Love' and a few clips before but

'Set Me Off is really quite bland/weak, not even as good as their debut which is quite surprising as i thought it would be hard for it to

possibly be worse -_-

However i think their song 'Issues' is actually a fairly good pop song, nothing special but not average duds like the rest of their material has been so far.

Set Me Off is not the second single. It was offered as a free download on the girls' website. It might not even be on the album but I really hope it is because it's got such a strong chorus and pretty decent verses. It's a good song, just not a potential single.

I do like the song, btw - I don't think I have commented on the actual music yet

As mushy said, if GA or the Sugas go, they could fill the gap nicely.

After seeing it played a few times on The Hits I still just don't feel this song tbh :( This coming from someone who doesn't consider themselves that much of a manufactured pop fan but a person who does a lot of like girl groups at the same time! When you compare this song to the debuts of Girls Aloud, Sugababes and Spice Girls it just doesn't compare imo :( The Spice Girls were responsible for making me start to buy records in the first place and I just don't see this song having that kind of impact for example. I kinda wish we had someone else to compete with Sugababes and Girls Aloud but this band just don't have that kind of appeal as everything about them is just very dated and there just isn't a place for them right now.

But it may be a minor hit now Radio 1 is getting behind them.

They seem like a female Phixx somehow - I think they will get a similar level of success (or lack of success).

i think you are probably right!

Well, Phixx had alot of potential and had a huge nod to the 80s - like the Saturdays. Mind you, I would be happy enough if they are a success.

But neither GA or SB are about to go

Plus they already look so "good looking", they try to have a perfect glamourous image, but I don't know how they're gonna improve it then or grow up. We saw Girls Aloud as teenage acts when they won Postarts, and we've seen them growing up and improving their image and look throughout the years. Same for the Sugababes, they were teenage stars and their look and style have changed massively througout the years.

The Saturdays won't be able to do that, and the general audience will get bored of them at singke #3.

That's not necessarily true. They dress like sophisticated teens or young adults at the moment (or in the ITIL vid at least) but there's the theme going on, with the bold colours. Hopefully as they evolve they'll all get their own, distinct styles, like GA or the Babes do now. Plus, at the end of the day, it'll be the music that sells. They ain't the Pussycat Dolls, stripping off to nothing. :P

But neither GA or SB are about to go

IF dear boy IF the sugababes or girls aloud called it a day... i said that because imho there aint much of a market for another girl group.

Unfortunelty i think what has been said about being like Phixx sucsess wise is probably right

Someone on Galaxy was talking about New Kids On The Block and how there needs to be more boybands (which i do not agree with) and then he said that there are plenty of girlbands though, like Girls Aloud and The Saturdays!

It seems like people actually know who they are now!

You really are naive aren't you? (PS. Please don't interpret that in a negative manner, because that is not what I'm getting at)

I think you are either in denial or fail to appreciate what a record company hyping a new act means to their profile.

Do you really honestly think they'd get playlisted by major Radio stations all over the UK if they did not have a significant weight of their major Record Company behind them?

Do you really think this new act would get all their forthcoming TV, Radio & media itinerary/appearances lined up well in advance if they were on a small independent record label. It will be no coincidence that they will be all over Childrens TV when schools in the UK have broke up, which coincides with the release of the single.

The simple fact is Universal (UK) record company is reported to be spending £400,000 on breaking them (compared to £200,000 Polydor spent on breaking Duffy or to really get things into perspective £65,000 Universal UK budgeted to spend initially on promoting Amy Winehouse's Rehab single & Back To Black album) tells its own story.

If you think Universal will be happy with a Phixx style chart run, then you have got to be kidding.

Even though they release the single within a 14 day period that sees new releases by the PCD, Madcon, Sam Sparro, Usher, Ting Tings, Kylie & BWO. I expect this single on hype & marketing alone to take this single into the Top 3 (After all a tone deaf Scot who could not sing in tune won the last series of X-Factor because he was "cute", "well-fit" and had a very good "sob story", so the public have proved every Christmas that enough of them are gullible enough to comfortably send what ever tat Simon Cowell can come up with to #1 each year).

In that context anything less than Top 5 will be a disaster.

What the hell? Did i mention anything about the promo, record company or chart postition? no so please keep your rambling saved for someone else. Im not naive and i've dealt with record companys in the past, just because im a young age it doesnt mean i dont know what im talking about.

I KNOW that the girls will of had loads of money thrown at them, the only thing i dispute is where the exact figure of 400k came from as there is no source.
