Posted May 24, 200817 yr Chelsea Football Club can confirm that Avram Grant has had his contract as manager terminated today (Saturday, May 24). This follows meetings over the last two days. Everybody at Chelsea FC would like to thank Avram for his contribution since taking over as manager last September. We will now be concentrating all our efforts on identifying a new manager for Chelsea and there will be no further comment until that appointment is made. Source: Chelsea's Offical Website Riijkard anyone? Maybe Hiddink, and apparently Abramovich has made up with Mourinho. Anyone dare to dream of a return
May 24, 200817 yr ABSOLUTLEY f***ING RIDICULOUS  :manson: It's like Chelsea where like I KNOW! Let's get rid of the man who took us to our first Champions League final and has played some amazing football tactics this season WTF?! I hate Roman.
May 24, 200817 yr It's hardly ridiculous. They lost two finals under him (albeit they deserved the CL imo) and went out of the FA cup to Barnsley, as well as a number of dissapointing results in the league, so I'd say it was the correct decision. I think Rijkaard will be his replacement.
May 24, 200817 yr No suprise at all. Although I'm totally dead against the sacking of Avram [and was also against the sacking of Mourinho too..] Chelsea FC and moreso Roman want instant results. Looking back at the end of the season, they have no trophies in their cabinet for this season and therefore that automatically equates to a bad season for them. Allow the fact he took them to the ECL final, came within 2 points of winning a League in which they were wrote off from winning by Christmas and were denied only by an extra-time goal of winning the League Cup obviously..
May 24, 200817 yr The thing that's clear from this is that Abramovich wants trophies and success now but I don't see how he's going to achieve that with Frank Rijkaard? Good manager yes, but he's a flair manager and Chelsea are not Arsenal. It would take at least a season for Chelsea to be able to get the right players to play how Rijkaard wants them to play. Roberto Mancini would be much better suited to Chelsea, and it will be either Mancini or Rijkaard that goes to Chelsea.
May 24, 200817 yr What an utterly STUPID decision :manson: Hopefully Chelsea will be $h!te next season now.
May 24, 200817 yr  I'm no fan of Chelsea. But this is F****** stupid. Raneiri, Mourinho & now Grant. You don't win competitions by splashing millions here, millions there and i think this is partly the reason these managers keep getting fired. Abrimovich thinks all you have to do is splash a few hundred million and it's gonna happen. The likes of Man Utd, Liverpool & Arsenal do spend, but not as Chelsea have done the last few years and they have a great understanding of one another. Avram hasn't done too bad. Kept up with Man U in the league and only lost on the last day and only lost the Champions league because Terry slipped. OK, they lost the Worthington Cup and as a Spurs fan i was well happy with that. :P As for the FA Cup, Barnsley not only knocjed out Chelsea, but Liverpool too. They've just been unlucky and if anyone should leave Chelsea, it's that moaning, sulky f****** Drogba :o
May 24, 200817 yr Author well I sense a Chelski exodus when Mourinho pops up at probably Inter. Lampard, and Drogba the first to jump ship.

He'd finally started to get the best out of his squad and took them further in Europe than Mourinho did. He did a sterling job...

He'd finally started to get the best out of his squad and took them further in Europe than Mourinho did. He did a sterling job... No I mean he had some really dissapointing results like 1-1 at home to Wigan, 4-4 with Spurs plus others. But he did good job overall, I agree.
May 24, 200817 yr In my opinion Avram Grant has been the best manager in the Premiership this season, whilst his ECL Final half time team talk, and tactical changes, showed that he could clearly out think Alex Ferguson. If Drogba had not behaved like a petulant 4 year old four minutes from the end of extra time in the Champions League Final match, then he would have been one of the five penalty takers instead of John Terry who stepped up to the plate like the captain he is, ahead of lesser men like the Incredible Sulk (Nicholas Anelka), and Chelski would have won the European Cup. Roman Abramovich has justed proved he is as stupid as Manchester City' Thai owner. I hope he lives to regret making one of the most outrageous sackings in the history of English Football.
May 25, 200817 yr Avram Grant had better results then Mourinho this season with virtually the same players. With Abramovich's and therefore Chelsea's expectation seeming to be win the CL or fail, then Chelsea seem deemed to fail next year also. Edited May 25, 200817 yr by SkiBaBopBaDopBop
May 25, 200817 yr He hasn't been sacked...do you seriously think they offered him any more than until the end of the season? The man they wanted wasn't available in September and now he is...whomever that is.
May 25, 200817 yr He hasn't been sacked...do you seriously think they offered him any more than until the end of the season? The man they wanted wasn't available in September and now he is...whomever that is. When he Chelsea made him their manager he signed a 4 year contract. God knows what Abramovic was thinking tbh, it's been painfully obvious that ever since he started he was going to be under the cosh all season, but now he's got a huge payout, so I can't say he'll be too displeased. And Grant will have most likely been sacked even if Chelsea did win the CL. The players didn't want him there, a lot of the fans didn't want him there, and the heirachy at Chelsea obviously didn't want him anymore and sacking a manager isn't something that just happens overnight.
May 26, 200817 yr I think the four year deal was a front and engineered so Grant would walk away with a nice big payment to play ball. The cost of those extra 3 years will be nothing to Chelsea and it gave the impression that this wasn't just a stop-gap appointment which it clearly was. Had he one the Prem and CL double he would still be disposed of.
May 26, 200817 yr Author now Hiddink is out of the running, Riijkard seems to be a firm favourite. So hmm what happens when he fails to win anything
