Posted May 30, 200817 yr This year so far has been a good one for number one hits I would say – a good balance of decent tunes from different genres (dance, pop, soul, R&B, electro) with decent runs at the top. But looking over recent years, which would you say is the worst year for number ones, and why? You can find lists at http://www.everyhit.com of the number ones of each year. I nominate 2004. The year began with a duo of truly dreadful Pop Idol hits, courtesy of Michelle and Sam & Mark, and a couple of novelty songs: 'Mysterious Girl' by Peter Andre and 'Cha Cha Slide' by DJ Casper. The long runners were annoying chavvy mobile phone anthems – 'F**k It' by Eamonn and the dire 'F.U.R.B' by Frankee (7 consecutive weeks between them), and 'Call On Me' by Eric Prydz (5 non-consecutive weeks). Many were nondescript and forgettable ('My Place' by Nelly, 'Wonderful' by Ja Rule, 'Real To Me' by Brian McFadden) and those by several established acts ('Radio' by Robbie Williams, 'Just Lose It' by Eminem, 'Who's David' by Busted) were amongst their worst. There were a couple of decent hits, 'Toxic' by Britney Spears and 'Yeah' by Usher, but these are notable mostly for standing out against the dross of the rest of the year. I think a pretty good case can be made against the first half of 2005, too. Any other nominations?
May 30, 200817 yr I agree with 2004. Easily the worst year for number ones. Think there were about 4 I'd rate 5/10 or higher ('Toxic', 'Lola's Theme', 'Yeah', 'Dry Your Eyes').
May 30, 200817 yr Hhm 2004 does sound the worst, last year was just boring with all the long chart runs at #1, then again its been the same so far this year.
May 30, 200817 yr how far back do you want to go?...lol 2004 though in the modern era was bloody awful for #1's.
May 30, 200817 yr Dunno really. I'd say 2003. Aside from Tatu, I don't think any of the others that year were worthy of the No.1 position.
May 30, 200817 yr I nominate 2005 I disagree, I think 2005 have some classics which will be remembered in years to come, 'Your Beautiful', 'Don't Cha', 'Push The Button' 'ITYLGOTD' and Crazy Frog dare I say it!!...but I agree with the majority, 2004 was dreadful <_< 'Lola's Theme' & the Britney ones the only memorable records from that year!
May 30, 200817 yr I agree 2004 was awful - 'Toxic', 'Everytime' and 'Lola's Theme' were the only decent ones. 2005 was pretty bad too (Crazy Frog, Amarillo, James Blunt :puke2: )

May 30, 200817 yr well 2004 also had imo some awful songs from Oasis, U2, Akon, James Blunt, Shayne Ward, Nizlopi, Arctic Monkeys, McFly , all the Elvis, etc... whilst 2004 had more of my fav #1s, Britney x2, LMC, Mario Winans, Natasha Bedingfield, Usher, etc. You put 2004 twice there when it should have been 2005 at the start. Nothing that a bit of editing won't fix though. :P Oh and 2004 all the way. ESPECIALLY those two crappy F U songs with Eamon and his so-called ex-girlfriend Frankee (OF COURSE they knew each other! OF COURSE it wasn't a publicity stunt! Hang on... is that a purple pig out there doing loop de-loops round the moon?!) Edited May 30, 200817 yr by anxresi
