Posted May 30, 200817 yr Gordon Brown routinely telephones voters at home to talk about Labour policy, Downing Street has confirmed. The prime minister is understood to ask the No 10 switchboard to put him through to people who have written to him with questions or concerns. A BBC News website reader has told how Mr Brown called him two months ago to talk about the Iraq war. Wajid Rafique said the PM apologised on behalf of the government "for what had happened to the people of Iraq". This is one of the positive things of Gordon Brown he does try and engage in two way communications, that makes him approachable and more a people person. In that sense he's properly one of the better Prime Ministers in recent times. All he's got to do now is completely overhaul the political and economic system and he might stand a chance of being elected.
May 31, 200817 yr Gimmick.... -_- I'd probably think it was some kind of joke frankly... Are we sure this isn't actually Rory Brenmer up to his tricks again....?

June 2, 200817 yr The prime minister is understood to ask the No 10 switchboard to put him through to people who have written to him with questions or concerns. He's hardly pestering people at home like a double glazing salesman, he's responding to people's concerns directly... I think it's a good idea ^_^

June 2, 200817 yr In principle it's a nice idea; the PM actually communicating with the public, and showing that their concerns AREN'T just passed down to some secretary or binned. He is a public servant after all. But yes, given how much responsiblity the man has, think of what else he could have done in that time.
June 2, 200817 yr But yes, given how much responsiblity the man has, think of what else he could have done in that time. In a nutshell mate... It's all very well Mr Broon phoning up Mr Rafique and saying "sorry for Iraq old chap", but how about actually PULLING THE BLOODY TROOPS OUT OF IRAQ AND TELLING DUBYA TO FECK OFF!!!!! <_< <_< Which is what Mr B-liar should've done in the first place....
June 2, 200817 yr However nice his intentions are, this is a populist gimmick. Just like how he went on American Idol (of all places) to ask for charity donations. He should be spending time drafting legislation or lobbying or advocating or whatever... in order to bring about real change. Edited June 2, 200817 yr by Consie

He should be spending time drafting legislation or lobbying or advocating or whatever... in order to bring about real change. Frankly, I think that this is one of these exercises to make it look like he's actually doing something and addressing people's concerns, but in actual fact, he is doing very little... Actions, not words Mr Broon..... -_-
