July 4, 200817 yr Some people have said that the Joker hasnt been played this well since Jack Nicholson' performance in 1989 and i agree To be honest, from what I've seen, I think Ledger's performance goes way beyond Nicholson's... Nicholson created a larger-than-life character sure, but played it a bit too much for laughs, tried a bit too hard, with Ledger, you aint laughing, as you say, he's sinister and cold-hearted.... There's just something about Ledger's portrayal that sends shivers down me... I never really felt that with Nicholson, he was always a bit too much of a, well, joker (small 'j') to come across as being really scary... People have been saying that Ledger manages to eclipse Christian Bale... Jeez, how many actors can do that....???? Bale has an extraordinary screen presence.... Ledger has portrayed The Joker absolutely correctly I feel, I reckon he's nailed it in a way that Nicholson didn't... When I was reading "Batman" comics, The Joker was a truly unhinged psychopath. If you read Alan Moore's "The Killing Joke" or Grant Morrison's "Arkham Asylum" you'll see what I mean.... "The Dark Knight" is shaping up to be the best film adaption of a comic book character ever..... Pity we cant clone the Nolan brothers, they should be doing EVERY comic adaption that's made as far as I'm concerned, because they actually have a respect for the comic book medium which all too many film-makers who adapt comics don't seem to.....

Spiderman 2 being an example i guess  The whole story of Peter wanting to lose his powers and then find he cant live without them is just  :lame:
July 4, 200817 yr Spiderman 2 being an example i guess  The whole story of Peter wanting to lose his powers and then find he cant live without them is just  :lame: To be honest, I thought the mid-section of Spiderman 3 was even lamer..... But yeah, that whole thing in Spiderman 2 was such a rip-off of "Superman 2" where Clark gave up his powers for Lois, it didn't seem quite as hackneyed a plot device in 1980..... I reckon the only really good Spidey film is the first one, it more-or-less follows the comic storyline..... Pity about the Green Goblin looking a bit too much like a Power Ranger though.....
July 4, 200817 yr I think you'll find the Peter losing his power's storyline was based on the comics, they loosely followed the storyline in The Amazing Spiderman #50 http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/marveldatabase/images/thumb/4/4d/AmazingSpiderman050.JPG/300px-AmazingSpiderman050.JPG I thought Spiderman 2 was good, Spiderman 3 on the other hand... But Comic book movies are better than ever now with Marvel Studios and Nolan's Batman.
July 18, 200816 yr Freaking Hell guys, check this one out..... :o http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0468569/ VERY few films get a rating this high on IMDb..... And 161 out of 171 reviews give it full marks and glowing reports..... This film is gonna go off the scale I reckon... The Dark Knight could conceivably sweep the Oscars next year....
July 19, 200816 yr I can't wait to see this, from what I've seen so far it looks like it'll be the Movie Of The Year! (Even more so than HP's Half-Blood Prince. ).

Everyone says it's a master piece. Can't wait to see it! :D I'm fully expecting this to be the highest grossing film of the year too.
July 19, 200816 yr Author Yep I agree. Everyone says it's a master piece. Can't wait to see it! :D I'm fully expecting this to be the highest grossing film of the year too. Aye, I think this will blow Batman Begins twice over, I never liked the first 4 movies they were all rubbery and loose, and very cartoonish, since the Batman franchise has been given the fresh look, It looks more serious and dark than its predecessors and the producers are on to a winning formula with it now. Just hope Batman 3 will live up to the first 2, as The Dark Knight looks very gothic.
July 19, 200816 yr It took $18 million at the box office for midnight showing on thursday in the USA, and has made almost $100 million so far :o :o and could be as high as $200 million by the end of tomorrow :o :o
July 19, 200816 yr WOAH thats the most Stars ive ever seen on imdb.com :o Is there any with a higher rating?

Just hope Batman 3 will live up to the first 2, as The Dark Knight looks very gothic. I'm sure the 3rd one will be just as good. I don't think it will do as well at to box office, as I do think Heath Ledger's death has made the film have more hype around it, and I think a lot of people who wouldn't normally watch Batman films will want to go see this, because it's Heath Ledger's final film that he shot in full before he died. If anything I think this film will make people realise that the world has lost one of its best actors.
July 20, 200816 yr . If anything I think this film will make people realise that the world has lost one of its best actors. If Ledger doesn't get a Best Supporting Actor nomination, then I will SERIOUSLY consider bombing the Academy Awards.... It was bad enough that he lost out Best Actor with "Brokeback..." if the same travesty happens again.....Well, there just aint enough words in the English language that could express my disgust.... The clips I've seen of his performance in this film is nothing short of astounding and absolutely blood-freezing at times... Better than Javier Bardem in "No Country For Old Men", better than Daniel Day Lewis for "There Will Be Blood".... And, frankly, he makes Jack Nicholson just look thoroughly LAME....

I can see this film just blowing the recent Indy film off the map.... As well as the tripey "Journey to the Centr of the Earth" and "Sex and the City"....
July 20, 200816 yr I will be going to see this as well. I'll wait a couple of weeks till it's a bit quieter though. I'm old. I can't stand crowds  Saw the Trailer the other night though. It looks fab. :yahoo:
July 20, 200816 yr As soon as its out here (this Friday?) i will be seeing it the Monday after in the middle of the day to avoid crowds but see it soon. It seems it is $h!ting all over every other film this year.

July 23, 200816 yr If Ledger doesn't get a Best Supporting Actor nomination, then I will SERIOUSLY consider bombing the Academy Awards.... Better than Javier Bardem in "No Country For Old Men", better than Daniel Day Lewis for "There Will Be Blood".... And, frankly, he makes Jack Nicholson just look thoroughly LAME.... Well from what i've read about the film, Ledger's took influence from Jack Nicholson's performance in The Dark Knight. I've not seen Ledger's Joker laugh yet, but apparently he's based his on how Nicholson did it in the original Batman, Jack Nicholson's laugh for me in the original Batman was the best thing about the film. I'm sure he'll get an Oscar nomination too, but then if he gets a nomination you'll still get your "he only got a nomination because he's dead" talk, which is stupid really as I think he'd have got a nomination anyway. I've not been this excited about seeing a film in ages either! :w00t: I seriously can't wait till Sunday to go see it. I'm even more pleased that even though it's long, it captures your attention through the whole film which is a plus for me as usually during long films I tend to get very bored at times.
July 24, 200816 yr BEST FILM OF THE YEAR so far!!! Fantastic! Heath was f***ing brilliant he gave me chills all the way through and I think i may join Grimly in f he doesnt get the best supporting actor nod i will bomb them too! Christian Bale was brilliant too as was the whole cast really but (I dont know whether its coz of everything thats happened) but Heath really stood out as the best!
