Uninspiring song choices and predictable voting patterns were threatening this contest earlier on this year, to the extent that we were planning to change the contest to a system where it only occurred once every two months...thankfully your suggestion that we do it early on in May gave us BJSC VI, which definitely reinvigorated the contest's popularity. If we go back to a point where we're all just sending songs that everybody knows, we could see a massive fall in popularity in the next couple of contests - which we're bound to see anyway as the summer holidays take over, so it could end up killing the contest off in a worst case scenario! Be creative people!

yeah, I'm glad I suggested that contest...the only reason I did is because I had just heard the Untouched song, and couldn't wait another 6 weeks to unleash it to you everyone :heehee:

I really hope this contest doesn't fall victim to its own success...problem is, as well known songs have done well in the past, people continue to send them. If they all flopped one contest then people would start to be more original with their choices

I don't think i've got a chance this time around unless there's a massive backlash on well known artists/songs  I'll have to find something that will get people voting :funky:

fingers crossed for the backlash  good luck Damon, I quite often enjoy your entries (except Amy Studt :P)

This isn't turning out to be boring then...

Alanis Morisette

Alphabeat

Britney

Celine Dion

Duffy

Gabriella Cilmi

Gwen Stefani

Jordin Sparks

Leona

Lily Allen

Mutya

Kelly Clarkson

Kelly Rowland

Sara Barielles

Shakira

Sugababes

As well as Rihanna and Kylie last time! FFS how dull!

I said when I first signed up that I was in strong agreement with the banning of any artist with a BuzzJack Multichart #1 or Optional Forum!

hopefully some of those artists won't be picked in the end...I've whittled my selection down to two now...Aurora who were basically a one hit wonder from 2000, and Multicyde, who I'm sure very few people have heard of

I think people now are trying to look for a winner rather than sending a song that they love

The sending of loads of massive artists happened in BJSC2...thankfully there was enough backlash to prevent most of them from doing well, but The Verve, Shakira, Sophie Ellis-Bextor and P!nk still went top 10 - an already famous song winning would be the death of this competition!

I would be fully in agreement with the banning of any artist who has had a #1 single on either the multichart or the UK top 40 (not including former band members etc.), and no matter what people say - what does sending someone like Leona Lewis really add to the contest? Nothing. People need to try for success rather than just cherry-picking an obvious smash that everyone's already heard! I will hold up my hands here and say that I've been guilty of this at least once, with Rachel Stevens with a track I'm sure most people had probably heard prior to the contest - but at least that was a relative flop compared to, say, Kelly Clarkson - Since U Been Gone, or other tracks in contention at the moment. Well known artists shouldn't be a priority entry at all...look for the unknowns before you dip into the famed artists!

Sorry to rant BTW :heehee:

Maybe I should change my song then - I chose Gwens Wonderful Life as I consider it to be her best non single song. It's a shame it is being damned due to the artist.

So much for this being a song contest.

agreed 100%

the most successful song I've sent was Sara Bareilles' Love Song, but of course it hadn't been heard of here in March  if I'd sent it now I'd be laughed out of the competition

I personally have little problem with people sending album tracks by big artists as you are introducing them to a new audience

it's when people start sending the big selling singles that I get a bit touchy

at the end of the day it is a 'song contest' and we're all looking for the best song but at this rate I'm starting to wonder if we'll soon see 'Angels', 'Imagine', 'Truly Madly Deeply' and such like being picked by people

No chance. Not from Nonsuch, anyway.

If countries want to put in entries that are more relevent to the Record of The Decade Games that I run annually, then I can guarantee they won't be getting any points off of me. For example - I love Britney's Toxic, but if it was entered in BJSC it would get a big fat zero from Nonsuch.

It all well and fine sending an obscure album track by a popular Buzzjack artist, or an old minor hit that never gets played on TV or Radio anymore (I've got a great track lined up in case of emergency for a future game), but picking old popular songs guarantees they will struggle to pick up points from the Nonsuch jury.

same with the FSR Rontvia jury -_-

but then of course you have the people who say, 'if you're truly voting for the best songs, then you should vote for the ones that you like the best whether or not they were million selling hits or not'. and it's the people with this view which will ensure that the big songs will always do well...

There's a STRONG difference between sending an album track for an artist who isn't particularly active at the moment - Gwen Stefani - to sending one from someone who people know are very popular at the moment and would be extremely likely to get points on name basis as a result - Alphabeat, or Leona for example, as they're unlikely to be unheard of at this moment in time, whereas Gwen's album didn't do particularly well - granted, it got to #1 in the album multichart, but I can definitely say that at that time it didn't take very many people to say that the album was their favourite to do that, as I was compiling it at the time  I'm sure there are many people in this contest who aren't familiar with Wonderful Life...hence why I chose it for my NF :P

I don't get why people are complaining about established artists used, most of the songs chosen for them are albums tracks anyway:

Alanis Morisette - If you're referring to Martin's then it's a big hit, but thisispop is considering an album track or less successful single I believe

Alphabeat - Future single I think but wont be released before the contest

Britney - album track

Celine Dion - Ruled out by Pavel

Duffy - Album track

Gabriella Cilmi - Album track

Gwen Stefani - see above

Jordin Sparks - unconformed song chosen by JamesP

Leona - see above

Lily Allen - future single/leaked track?

Mutya - album track

Kelly Clarkson - I guess this is a single, but it's the same person who is considering another single, Martin.

Kelly Rowland - Album track

Sara Barielles - Album track

Shakira - Album track? (I don't follow Shakira's material really)

Sugababes - see Jordin Sparks

Overall there are only two already released singles suggested by the same person and a few artists that have question marks above them.

You will never see the big hit from Eledan anymore :kink:

At BJSC4, BJSC5, BJSC6 and the upcoming BJSC8 Eledan had (is having) the unknown (almost unknown) track that I personally love very much, i wouldn't send Gabriella Cilmi even if i knew i'd have the second win in the contest cause i hate her songs soooooo much, can't stand this music.

The one exception was at BJSC7 to where i sent Natasha Bedingfield. The fact is that i first heard the song and liked it a lot, but it flopped and i'm not surprised.

Britney Spears is still the only candidate for going to Mdice in July from Eledan. The more information is to come after the 4th July, the last day of the "Big Holidays of Eledan" that last for 1 week.

When it comes to album tracks, I rarely have a problem with them unless they're from artists who are very popular at the time of entry on BJ...such as Gabriella Cilmi (who can be excused given that the track has been intended to be used for a couple of months now, at least before the advert started ), Leona, Alphabeat etc.

However, it does develop into a problem when LOTS of people start sending songs from fairly well-known artists, as it does dilute the contest's meaning a little...

I think Mark was more annoyed at the sheer number of well established acts ready to participate in this contest, as opposed to the songs being picked...BJSC7 had a large number of acts I'd never heard of before/heard of very fleetingly, e.g Lady Gaga, Saving Jane, Jeanette, Katy Perry, Linda Kraly, Ida Maria etc...so to suddenly have so many established acts in conention is quite a surprising contrast

I still want to send "Hallelujah" :(

Do you think i have chances with this?

Perhaps waiting until a contest less flooded with established artists and songs would be a better idea Pavel :P
^ :heehee: Ok i thought so too

I feel bad for picking Sara Bareilles now, I didn't think she would be that bad. I thought most people would have only heard 'Love Song'. Her album has only spent one week on the Multichart a few weeks ago so far, peaking at #26. I expect it will enter the next chart but I didn't think she was 'major artist' on Buzzjack. :(

I still want to send her though because I'm not rating the chances of my other songs that highly even though I like them. I'm not trying to ruin the contest by sending her, it's just a track I really liked on first listen when I got the album.

don't feel bad...the only person who really raved over Sara on Buzzjack up until about a month ago was me  I wouldn't call her a 'major artist'...those with their own artist forum are what I would call major artists...

Fairytale is an excellent song which I would like you to send because it might encourage people to buy her album if they are wondering if they might like any more of her tracks...the track re-entered my chart this week because when I did that album rate and gave it 9/10, I realised that it had only originally got to No.50 in my chart in January, which in hindsight was a massive underachievement...

I don't know if KT Tunstall is considered a major artist or not but it looks as if the countrys who usualy send ggod songs may find themslefs in a pickle
