Their new album :cheer:

The Verve have not only leaked the first single from their comeback album this week, but they've also now given the record the title of 'Four' and revealed the tracklisting.

Only ten songs will make the band's fourth long-player, which will be released on August 18th in the UK through EMI, while North America gets the record a day later (Aug 19th) via their own imprint On Our Own.

As mentioned above, the first single from 'Four' has already surfaced in the form of 'Love Is Noise' - which you can listen to at this link.

Four Tracklisting:

1. Sit and Wonder

2. Love Is Noise

3. Rather Be

4. Judas

5. Numbness

6. I See Houses

7. Noise Epic

8. Valium Skies

9. Columbo

10. Appalachian Springs

============================

Check out their new single in the chart forum, it has leaked.

Release Date for the single is 4th August

Most overrated band of all time. I hope this isn't filled with more 'Lucky Man' and 'Sonnet' tracks. Even their old stuff before they had to add the definite article wasn't very good.

Yey one of the best boy bands in the world are back i've liked lots of Richards solo work too so this is great i'll definently buy the album :yahoo:

So, they're calling it "Four" eh....? Copying Portishead's comeback album "Three" just a wee bit...... I'm just wondering what the hell My Bloody Valentine are gonna call their comeback album.....

I agree with Richie... Anything after "Storm In Heaven" was really just Dad Rock... I liked Verve's first album and the EPs, I saw them play several times as a support act and completely blow away the headliners... But the name change and change in style didn't really impress me tbh.... "A Northern Soul" had its moments, but "Urban Hymns" was just pure MOR c**p....

If "Four" is return to the more blissed out, atmospheric Space Rock they used to do, then that would be cool, if it's just more Dad Rock, then I aint interested.....

but havent they just had two albums tho  ?? pity we cant think of someone who has not released an album for ages and are on their fifth...(wonder if the stereo mcs have got upto that number yet  ??)

I cant say anything really - got a couple of the early Verve album in the sale a few months back - but not got round to listening to them...on my big pile - cannot say - tho think history is a grreat record

on the other hand sonnet and lucky man are awful examples of dad-rock - not just Manics boring even worse than that - even more of an anti-climax than the stereo mc's record at the top!!! and almost as bad as that recent paul weller record where he does that 70s soul influenced dadrock thing again - which is one of the worst things i've heard recently....(and i have been mostly listening to 101 party classics with black lace - superman and kenny's the bump!!!!! )

but havent they just had two albums tho  ??

Nope, they did three - "Storm In Heaven", "A Northern Soul" and "Urban Hymns".. Plus there was an early EPs collection which had probably their best material ever on it - "All In The Mind", "Gravity Grave", "Man Called Sun".....

I love the early and later Verve material - but I agree, Sonnet and Lucky Man were horrible - but you can't take anything away from the greatness of Bittersweet Symphony or The Drugs Don't Work.

I like the new single - wonder how they're going to do at Glasto this weekend?

Sorry mate, cant say I like any of "Urban Hymns" personally... I just thought they completely lost it, choosing to play safe and middle-of-the-road whereas before they actually dared a LOT more and took more risks musically, the days of "Mad Richard" were the coolest for me.... I was so impressed with the early material and the early gigs that I saw of theirs where "Mad Richard" was just a complete NUTTER on stage, obviously off his tree on some substance or other... Seeing them later on, it was like I was watching a differnt (more boring) band....

The drugs DID work for Richard.....

Sorry. Did I read that right? Lucky Man - Dad Rock? You must be joking. I have just finished seeing them on TV at Glasto and they were awesome. The Rolling People and Velvet Morning are so far from the likes of Weller and Ocean Colour Scene the true progenitors of Dad Rock. Just a shame they didn't play Come On.

And Love is Noise was ace live. I didn't like it that much the first time I heard it but it rocked live.

And Richie, have you actually heard their old stuff from 91-93. Incredible stuff. Gravity Grave was unbelievably good, especially the version I saw them do at Glasto 93.

Then you have All in the Mind, Blue, A Man Called Sun, Superstar. Even the B-sides from the Urban Hymns era were outstanding.

I agree totally with this part... But "Urban Hymns" for me was a big let-down.... Radiohead did their frankly amazing "Okay Computer" album which just tore the whole "Britpop" scene a new arsehole with its sheer ambition and greatness, as did Spiritualized's jaw-dropping "Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space"... "Urban Hymns" just sounded so complacent and lazy in comparison to these two truly magnificent records....

actually where those pop tracks from "Urban Hymns" could be on the best of dadrock with Oasis and Paul Weller thinking that early [the] Verve stuff kinda equates to a kinda Spiritualized (or MBV) sonic vibe....thats where i think they should be/where they were....(tho caught a bit Spiritualized on tv last night and they were not as i thought they would be - more bluesy kinda vibes - tho switched over to see goldfrapp recreate the wicker man)

Have to agree with you there. Two of these three albums are in my favourite 20 records of all time and Urban Hymns ain't there.

But Bittersweet Symphony is my favourite single ever.

The Verve are amazing!

They are great live!

Yeah I like the old songs the best but it really depends on my mood.

The only good tracks on Urban Hymns are the singles and it's far too long.

Don't agree with that at all. Come On is a great track as is Space and Time and The Rolling People. It is too long though!
