Your attitude absolutely stinks. Because Katy has a massive team behind her (who, to get her to where she is have spent an AWFUL LOT more than Polydor have or ever will on The Saturdays, might I add) who can effectively buy her hype, she is a talent of some sort? Is she? No, she cannot sing to save her life. Her arrogance and persona are downright unappealing.

Her album has been absolutely panned on your beloved Metacritic - what do you make of that? After all, that place is what you rely on to back up the majority of your view-points. Well One For The Boys has a frankly APPAULING average score of 43/100. Everyone can see her music is 'classic', eh? No, just the public; the same public who make The Sun the UK's #1 newspaper and who voted George Bush into American presidency.

You are also quite wrong about her lyrics. Perhaps you think them ironic, but in a world where gays are seen as unusual and inferior is it acceptable to describe a girl-on-girl kiss as 'so wrong'? The song is poking fun at lesbianism. It's something, I suppose, that the public aren't disgusted by it, but then again, as I asked earlier, would I Kissed A Boy sung by a man EVER take off? No, it would not. Her lyrics are not clever AT ALL. The dreadful Ur So Gay only serves to re-inforce that.

I respect that you find her to be some sort of talent or perhaps to possess some creativity, but in my eyes she has neither.

The fact that a massive US gay icon like Cyndi Lauper had her as her support act on her US tour speaks volumes.

The fact that a substantial majority of the US gay community have adopted UR So Gay as a Gay Anthem speaks volumes.

I first heard of Katy Perry when around the end of last year Jake Shears (Scissor Sisters) was on a Radio 2 show where artists were asked to play their favourite song of the year and he selected UR So Gay as his track. Then a couple of days later I read a list of Boy George's favourite songs of the year and he too choose that track.

In short you appear to be completely missing the very point of the song, as the community (in the USA at least) which you think the song is attacking seem to think the very opposite.

Either way, I personally deem the lyrics as a step back for gay culture in general during times when artists should be using their influence to step forwards and progress peoples' trains of thought.

As a side note, I'm not sure Cyndi is particularly relevant anymore. She can't sell, and have you seen the video for Into The Nightlife? I hope she had no input whatsoever into the treatment for that because the end result is beyond embarassing. Even Madonna fannying around in tight corsets and showing off her non-too attractive muscle is not at such a stage of drunken-mother-on-wedding-dancefloor-ness.

I'm no Cyndi Lauper fan - but her new album is nothing short of incredible - all the fans of gay girlie electro pop on here should listen and learn - it's phenomenal. To say she's not 'relevant' - Jark, you're talking out of your arse, mate - she headlines gay tours which sell colossal amounts of tickets every year in the States - and the tour's coming here, too, apparently... she still, even after all this time, has a massive loyal fanbase who buy lots of her records. The only doubters are awful daytime radio in this country - who wouldn't play a Cyndi record if it sounded like Imagine because she's...gasp.... over 40 and she's not..gasp... Madollar. Plus, her album was the main feature in last week's aforementioned Sun - it gave it a pretty great 4.5 out of 5 and raved about how brilliant it was (because it is). As for the video - not seen it.... but so what? She's an old dame, cut her some slack.

As for this song in question, Ms Perry, being homophobic...I don't think so at all. Not that keen on it, though....

On a side note..err... James... isn't Jark getting increasingly uncomfortable, or maybe a little excited, with your tongue rammed so firmly and deeply up his rectum? I've yet to see a post by him that isn't followed by a nauseatingly fawning post of yours :puke2: .

It must be love, love, love......

Oh wow Katy is gonna be as huge as I thought :o

I love the song and the entire album - think it's brilliant and I'm not offended nor do I deem any of the lyrics as being homophobic? It's a tongue in cheek track at best and all the gay people I know have no problem with it. It has huge appeal to people from all walks of life. My best friend's boyfriend even said to me if she wished to 'kiss a girl' so to speak he definately wouldn't mind

It's just refreshing to see a different topic covered in a song, even if it has been done to generate publicity and controversy it's a hell of a lot better than most of the c**p that is in the charts and I'm pretty sure she'll vanish into the wilderness after the hype over this track has died down anyway.

And is that Kylie song the album version or a new edit btw? :D

True, she's an icon and her new material IS very good, even if it does seem like something of an attempt to capture the magic of Confessions On A Dancefloor, at the same time feeding the critics with their somewhat tired second-rate Madonna comments. But perhaps her fanbase just haven't got around to buying said album yet? Because it has sold no more than 30k in the US. Even Donna Summer's low-key comeback outpeaked and outsold it. However, I'm not using that as a criticism, just a noting. My criticism comes with the video; Cyndi does cool well, she doesn't need to dance like an old bag in front of some stereotypically queeny gays to prove she's still relevant.

As for the James comment, just mature a little. I'm glad I have a friend on here who's willing to stick up for me when I get abuse which varies from the subject matter in question.

Excuse me? How DARE you think you can speak down to me? What do you think gives you some divine right to treat other like sh1t you wiped off the back off your shoe? I am going to stand up for Jark, because you, grimly, TIP etc completley manipulate him, bully him, talk to him like fukkin $h!t. I was always taught to STAND UP to bullies, not be afraid of them, back away and let them dominate over others. and why do you do it russ? because he has a different taste to you? I am no way going to stand for you talking like $h!t to me lovey, you need to buck up your ideas right away. You think because youve been around longer, you have a perfect idea of what makes the music industry what it is? You can't stop and think for one second that someone may have a different taste and opinion to you, and from what i've read of your post you clearly don't know half of what Jark or myself listen too. I am yet to see a post by Jark that isn't followed by a nauseating repetitive reply from you. " :puke2: "

Now Now boys let's all play fair, stick your toys back in your prams :P
Insightful as ever, Martin. Thanks for that.[/size]

No need for that, Jark. Martin is merely trying to make you all stop insulting each other - discussion can be had without resorting to insults.

True, it can, so why not tell that to the likes of TiP who have put me down incessantly in here? It's pretty easy to only tell certain people what they're doing wrong, clearly.

I apologise, Martin, and I take it back. Your post was not insightful in the slightest but the sentiment was appreciated.

Ahhhh. finally a bit of entertainment around here...

I happen to think that all the bickering is un-necessary and I have no problem with you whatsoever - you assume that I am 'picking on' you when I am not. However, adult discussion is what this site needs, and I do enjoy reading a good debate.

But, being saracastic AGAIN is not making you look very reasonable, is it?

Okay then. And my last reply was not sarcasm...

Reading it back, no it wasn't. Apologies from me!

As I said though, this debate on Katy Perry is shaping up to be interesting and its good that she provokes such different points of view from different posters.

Personally, I have no problem with the potential (and I can see where some are coming from with the pseudo lesbian angle) homophobic lyrics. The song is great though, and pretty catchy and I can see it being Umbrella esque in size.

This thread must be the first time I've seen some sort of personality expressed on this forum, ironic really for the iTunes thread.

Then you clearly haven't seen Jark, russt etc. going at it in the Goldfrapp and Saturdays topics. and what about the Perspectives forum? (I don't use it much, but I've had a read from time to time)

Anyway, as long as she could stop Kid c**k I will buy the song 14,000 times just to make sure, if I had enough money though

This doesnt make sense, bed I think

Excuse me? How DARE you think you can speak down to me?

I don't think I can speak down to you - I am speaking down to you... because you deserve it. When you deserve to be spoken to on a level - I'm sure I'll let you know.

Anyway - Katy Perry... it's a little toe-curling, the whole lesbian angle... I mean, it's bound to get girlies singing along and predictable responses from heterosexual men "Oh go on then, love... feel free".

Yeuch.

As someone else said on here - perhaps the song wouldn't get a shred of airplay if it'd have been about 2 men? We live in an age where straights (straight men usually) despise...or at best tolerate - gays... yet they love a bit of faux-lesbian girl on girl action.

How tedious  .
