I doubt that. Members of pop acts traditionally earn very little, unless they are involved in the songwriting. I know this Tom guy does get involved in that, but do the others?

And even if they all are, they simply will not have sold enough records to live off for the rest of their lives. They will have earnt a lot yes, but nowhere near enough to retire now. As I said, their record of #1's DOESN'T reflect their actual sales very well.

Dude. They write ALL of their own songs. Equally. The only one who doesn't really ever get involved is the drummer....but why should he need to. Theres no dominant song writer. Don't speak about something that you clearly have no idea about.

I am certainly not sheepish when it comes to disliking McFly immensely and I'm feeling quite scathing today so apologies in advance. There's already been quite a lot of topics on McFly on here which never seem to go down well, if you look on either page 2 or 3 there's a big long thing about them giving away their latest album free with a newspaper.

To be honest the main reason for me not liking them is because of their fans. Some of their fans worship the ground they stand on and whilst it's fair enough to look up to someone, most of the tweens think they s*** gold dust and it just goes a little too far for my liking. I'm all for people sharing their opinions but I just can't take someone whos only setence is 'I want to marry Dougie' seriously. I just think quite a lot of their fans can't be realistic about their 'success' in terms of the bigger picture. They're all happy when 'McFly are #1' but truth of the matter is sales after their first week of releasing a single are appauling. They have some of the worst chart runs.

Other than that I think as people they're quite rude. I have had the unfortunate pleasure of crossing paths with them a few years ago. The one thing that really got me though was I was reading an interview with them in Heat magazine I think it was and they got asked a question about groupies and if they'd ever done anything with them and I believe the response was 'no, have you seen some of the girls that wait outside for us' and I thought that was vile. They should atleast respect and value the people that buy their music and who have put them where they are, so in that sense I feel sorry for their fans.

Also to be fair I agree that it's good that they do play their own instruments and write songs because they are creative in that sense, but their style it's just not my thing. I just can't listen to their material. But at the same time I understand there is always going to be people that like them and you know we're all different and there is nothing wrong with that.

indeed a good, balanced view.

yep they play their instruments live and compose their own material. 4 years ago i praised them for it, and thought they looked like having potential... however... they have not progressed one iota. they are still churning out the very same material they did then... no evolution, so im really tired of them now and disappointed they havent progressed.

Well considering they were a 'boyband' on their old label they didn't allow to progress, at least they have progressed slightly with this album even if not much but at least on their own label they'll have room to progress. Only One For The Radio and Smile (why break away from your record label and write something like that? ) really scream old McFly to me that much.

Whatever, this single won't even sell over 50,000 units in the end, that won't make them rich

McFly promotion adds 300,000 readers for MoS

The Mail On Sunday’s McFly covermount promotion boosted sales of the Sunday paper by 300,000 copies, according to industry estimates.

The paper last Sunday gave away the band’s first album for their new label Super Records, Radio:ACTIVE.

According to the Guardian, industry estimates put the issue’s sale at 2.38m copies, although MoS managing director Stephen Miron says the figure could go as high as 2.5m when all counting is finalised.

This puts it well below the 600,000 sales boost that the paper’s Prince promotion last year achieved. However, Miron says that he is “very pleased” with the result, which he never expected to be as dramatic as the Prince giveaway.

Whatever, this single won't even sell over 50,000 units in the end, that won't make them rich

And even if it did sell 50,000- it wouldn't make them rich anyway.

Touring is where the money is these days. ;)

I don't like McFly & never have. They just don't appeal to me musically and I dont think they are very credible. They sound like a rip off of Busted (and I never liked them neither).

Come on - who is honestly surprised about this?

And, since we're being honest here, I do like a few of their songs (Five Colours In Her Hair and All About You are on my iPod as well), but I can't remember how any of their recent (back to Star Girl) songs go, and I've not heard One For The Radio).

I knew therd be something about the sales of the paper. it just goes to show.

In september they are releasing a 14 track edition of this album, which they will sell normally. i wonder how that turns out :P

xxxxxx

I personally don't mind them. They are just there to have fun and their music makes a change to all the depressing emo acts like Fallout Boy and R and B.

They started off well, but it went downhill for them briefly when the second album was released.

I just hope all works out for them with their own record label and fair play releasing a free album :)

Well if the 3 for £4 is a 'desperate' bid to be #1 then most proper Indie bands who have no chance are desperate to be #1 too :P And what they also mean about the downloads is they won't work as well as not counting. The whole tactics like the texting was all Island records' fault anyway it's not harmed them at all as they're still gonna sell around the same amount anyway

btw do we include U2 in the indie desperate pile or with mcfly....as they've had #1 doing this as well

They're all in the same pile! EVERYONE does it! Especially in the first week. I finally got The Last Shadow Puppets on three formats today though after a few weeks and they were £7 all together.

but obv its seems to be against the law to say anything bad about turner and co...tho obv some of their songs might sound more like benny hill than scott walker

One for the radio, chart run 2-21-46   :kink: :heehee: :drink: that is hilarious

Thats lame even for them. Well, thats what you get when you release a song that basically means 'everyone who doesn't like our music sucks!'

How on Earth were they expecting to gain new fans with a song like that?

I actually think there are far worse acts out there than McFly. A number of their songs are actually quite good and I wouldn't be ashamed to say I have them on my ipod or some such - but just as many or even more are totally horrible, but then most artists have a mixed bag of songs.

I just think the thing that annoys me about them is their 1001 cons to ensure their singles enter as high as possible the week they come out. It's like all they care about is a #1 single really and the fact that they take their clothes off all the time. I rarely have respedct cor anybody who markets their music in such a way. It just seems like they rely too heavily on gimmicks and stuff instead of just letting their music do the talking.
