I was hoping the GH would be the last we heard of mcfly.

I'm sick of seeing them take their clothes off for cheap publicity - its just cheapness on a grand scale allover with them.

they have stopped things like that it was down to the label.

when they sang at gay a few weeks back they didn't do anything like that

give it awhille and cd offers and stuff will stop

every song on the new album is mature

and very different

What if McFly teamed up with one of your fave bands, would u be willing to give it a listen?

Of course I would, if the track was good.

It's not a matter of not wanting to listen to Mcfly, because I've chosen not to. It's just I don't listen to them cause their music doesn't appeal to me.

No I meant I was going to throw the Daily Mail out

I'm a big fan of them  *goes to edit post*

Even I (the diehard GA fan who hated Star Girl's tactics) have the album in front of me, which is currently being put onto my PC.

But some of their tactics to try and desperately get #1 still remain, the whole 3 for £4 thing, and the thing on their MySpace "When you order the new downloads be sure to redeem them from your computer by Sat Midnight" or the downloads won't count. That I'd imagine may slip into their mailing list too.

I mean just release a song for once, and let people go out and buy it without appearing to beg people to make sure they do something by a certain time. That's what really gets my goat with McFly.

And I was going to get the GH at Xmas, but it was out of stock, and I forgot  Will probably get it when I get paid, as I do like a bit of All About You and That Girl

Well if the 3 for £4 is a 'desperate' bid to be #1 then most proper Indie bands who have no chance are desperate to be #1 too :P And what they also mean about the downloads is they won't work as well as not counting. The whole tactics like the texting was all Island records' fault anyway it's not harmed them at all as they're still gonna sell around the same amount anyway

Absolutely love the album btw  Going Through The Motions is my fave so far :D

Well I got my free copy this morning!

Have to say, I really like it actually! My faves so far are Do Ya and POV

Nevertheless, it is the fourteenth straight top ten hit for the band who seem to be one of the only acts left who can guarantee a top ten hit with every release.

from the news thingy please tell me im not the only one that just read that!!!!

I really like them although I'm not particularly a fan of "One For The Radio" but I LOVED Obviously, 5 Colours, Sorrys Not Good Enough & Transylvania

I thought I would go on their forum to have a laugh and see what their reactions were......

Here is one of their fan's comment:

Wow. Just...wow.

Ridiculous.

McFly deserved it. WE deserved it for buying an obscene number of singles.

That sums up the whole thing really

LOL.

Typical. Why do Mcfly & their Fans fuss all over single positions+sales, they don't really matter. It's the album they should be worried about.

Bu the thing is, Think about it, mcfly have made such a mark on the industry, just look at this post. Like every other band in the industry not everyone is going to like them. But they are VERY popular. Weather you like it or not they've had the greatest success people of their ages should get.

But no offence, they HAVEN'T. Yes, on paper they've had loads of #1s. But most of them sold very little.

"Baby's Got Back" for instance. A #1 in 2007. Impressive? Well no actually. It ended up the 168th "biggest" selling single of the year. Behind Mika's "Lollipop" which never peaked higher than #59. Behind The Killers "Mr Brightside", behind Survivor's "Eye Of The Tiger", behind Queen "Don't Stop Me Now"; none of which even had a release in 2007.

By most people's standards, a FLOP. The kind of sales which would usually get a pop act axed.

Wait a second. You're telling me the record label TOLD McFly to strip on stage all of those times? So all this time, McFly were glorified PAID STRIPPERS? Well, that makes me respect them as musicians so much more.

I do not like McFly, most of the reasons have already been covered well here be others.

Their music is not my cup of tea, too cheesy for me. The only song of theirs I could ever listen to would be "The Heart Never Lies".

I don't like their attitude. In interviews and TV appearances they generally appear to smug, self-satisfied little $h!ts.

I also dislike the way they insist they're a credible act. Well, no offence the lads, but the reason you're not getting the recognition you believe you deserve is because of...erm...your OWN management/marketing.

You cannot aggressively market yourselves to pre-teen schoolgirls, and still maintain you are a serious, credible musical act. The two do NOT reconcile.

^^

by success i meant they have earned enough money to live off for the rest of their lives. Which by now to most celebs would stop them from working, but they carry on. :)

I doubt that. Members of pop acts traditionally earn very little, unless they are involved in the songwriting. I know this Tom guy does get involved in that, but do the others?

And even if they all are, they simply will not have sold enough records to live off for the rest of their lives. They will have earnt a lot yes, but nowhere near enough to retire now. As I said, their record of #1's DOESN'T reflect their actual sales very well.

I think the album's pretty good actually. It's the first McFly album i've ever listened to in full, and it still has it's old-skool McFly routes at the same time as having now routes. Lyrically the songs are much more grown up, and the songs on the whole aren't all that "kiddy" of you get what I mean. My favourite song by them is The Heart Never Lies and i'm very pleased that they've sort of encorporated that sound into some of their new material, it's not present in all the tracks, but it's really there in a few of them, especially in the latter half of the album.

I still think their tricks of gaining sales are stupid and they've only lost out on a #1 record - hardly means anything these days anyway, only for bragging rights anyhow. I know McFly still have a lot of doubters, but download the album for free off somewhere and you might just be suprised.

ROTFL! McFly sales are ridiculously low

Laureen sums it up :

Yeah they're all involved in the songwriting, infact James Bourne (Busted for anyone who doesn't know) is the only other person who writes with them most of the time and there is this J. Perry person who is too. Don't forget they still sell out Wembley Arena and other big places around the country which is where bands get most of their money these days so I presume they must have pocketed quite a bit especially if James Bourne is earned more than £3 million from Busted!

Anyway 28,000 physicals this week? Shows they sell enough without being on a big record company!
