July 21, 200816 yr Are there any sales available for this? What position would Mamma Mia be in if it were allowed in the artist album chart?

July 21, 200816 yr Are there any sales available for this? What position would Mamma Mia be in if it were allowed in the artist album chart? I think Now 70 will sell more than the whole top 10 compilations added together this week. Its one of the strongest Now albums yet.
July 21, 200816 yr Should be really close between Now 70 and Mamma Mia next week if Mamma Mias stay up :o Won't be close at all. Now 70 will walk it.
July 21, 200816 yr Won't be close at all. Now 70 will walk it. Indeed. At least 250k they usually do first week.
July 21, 200816 yr The Mamma Mia soundtrack seems out of place here, I mean traditionally OST's appear on the artists album chart the most recent example I can think of is the Titanic one which was No1 in 1998. All the songs are written by ABBA... Should Mark Ronson's album have been shoved on here because all his tracks featued guest singers? No, stupid OCC decision. Edited July 21, 200816 yr by ej87
To be fair the Titanic soundtrack was credited to James Horner. There is a thread about this somewhere but I think if the soundtrack is credited to one person (as Titanic was, or Andrew Lloyd-Webber musicals) then it is an album. If it is credited to Various Artists, which I think this one is, then it is a compilation. There's some sort of strange loophole...
July 22, 200816 yr The OCC tell me that 'Evita' was allowed into the Artist/Main Album Chart, in 1996, because it was Credited to Madonna & Various Artists. 'Titanic' was allowed into the Artist/Main Album Chart, in 1998 because it was Credited to James Horner. The 'Mamma Mia!' Film Soundtrack is not Credited to any named Artist, & it is regarded as a Various Artist Album - a Compilation - by The OCC. Had 'Mamma Mia!' been Credited to Meryl Streep & Various Artists, it would have been allowed into the Artist/Main Album Chart. It would have Entered at No.2 for the W/E 19th July, & would have risen to No.1 in the latest Chart - for W/E 26th July. 'Mamma Mia!' is the first Film Soundtrack to outsell the No.1 Artist Album since 'Bridget Jones Diary', in 2001. The OCC say it is OK for Stage Cast Albums to go into the Artist/Main Album Chart. Which is why the 'Mamma Mia!' Stage Cast Album is No.19 in that Chart.
