Whole Lotta Love was awful! Leona did OK with it but I didn't see the point! Jimmy Page looked pensionable. Beckham looked bored out of his skull.

But back to Boris - the scruffy slob could have at least buttoned his jacket up!

It wasn't that pointless. The UK had 8 minutes to put on a performance/invitation, so they asked 1. The biggest selling Popstar of the moment, 2. One of THE most amazingess guitar players of all time (who was also 1/5th of Led Zeppelin, another 'best of all time' bands) and 3. David Beckham, who again is probably one of the most recognised football player around the globe.

And, they're all British. So there is your point. :P I'm pretty sure they could of asked Robbie Williams to belt out 'Angels', but where is the fun in that?

The fun would be everywhere around! :w00t:

I liked closing ceremony, and I liked London part. Beckham looked good.

Seeing that London performance, I was asking myself will Robbie appear on opening of Olympic 2012? Because, that would be great! :funky:

Well you have a very valid point there Josh!

Here is the video of the stunning performance, Leona can't rock for toffee, but she sure as hell can sing and great incorporation of the string arrangement of The Beatles' A Day In The Life.

As for Robbie performing Angels, surely that would have confused America wondering who this strange person they don't know is "covering a Jessica Simpson song"

OMG, maybe, or better say probably, but that's really shame. -_-

Again - spot on.

You're right about Leona actually - she did sing it bloody well (and if I'm honest - exactly as I thought she would/should sing it) but I'm not that sure of the choice of song.

Maybe we could have suggestions as to which song should have been chosen. Mine are:

We Are The Champions

Rule The World (although given the current political and world climate .... maybe not! )

Top Of The World

And maybe even ... the Spandau Ballet classic .... 'GOLD '

 it definitely would have confused America! Let me entertain you would have been perfect though imo :cheer:

I expected more from the duo Leona-J.Page tbh. I like her voice but she's not really for that kind of songs  Beckham sure looked bored  and I thought he'd do something with the ball, being the great football player and all...

Think everything with the bus, umbrellas and London scenery was fantastic

Boris was just cringeworthy. From the pompous Chinese president to the dopey clown  . He got wrapped up with the flag

Leona is not a rock star so the UK's best female singer did an admirable job with it.

As far as Robbie Williams on, I'd agree with you about most of the world outside Western Europe and Australia not knowing who the hell he is, and he couldn't rock any better than Leona.

I'd imagine that the sort of people that would perform at the Opening Ceremony in 2012 would be the likes of Led Zepplin (if they reform), Sir Paul McCartney, Rolling Stones, Elton John and Coldplay.

When I was thinking about what we could do, I was thinking about some sort of 'festival' idea, 'cause we do it best. ^_^ And those are the type of bands which would most probably perform. ^

Cause we'll NEVER outdo China. -_-

You just know that a classic Andrew Lloyd Webber musical track will turn up, and get a Welsh Choir involved, a Scottish pipe band with bagpipes, etc.....

We'd probably get something like a chip van rolled into the arena, with Elton John jumping out the window with a Cats Choir singing on top.

British definitely has the humour, as the organisers have pointed out.

I have to say something about the Closing Ceremony - I love the way the head of the Beijing Organising Committee clapped himself after every few lines.

Then you see Jacques Rogge, who doesn't clap when he's doing his speech - and then calling out to the young of the world* to convene in London in 2012. But why in French - iirc, he did it in English in Athens.

* - Which, this year, included a 67 year old horserider from Japan.

Edit: Found him - Hiroshi Hoketsu, who was born in 1941. He has previous experience, too - he finished 40th in showjumping in the 1964 Games (in Tokyo), and qualified for the 1988 Games in Seoul; he had to withdraw, mind - quarantine issues.
