August 28, 200816 yr 1999 was the best year for music ever, it just had everything. Absolute classic dance tracks from Underworld, Yomanda, Binary Finary, ATB, Shaft, and the brilliant Alice Deejay, it so should have been number 1 on the official chart! As a ten year old at the time also I liked the songs by S Club 7, Steps, Vengaboys, Shania Twain, Lou Bega, Destiny's Child, TLC, Ricky Martin, ...actually I still do but don't tell anyone  They're nostalgic, that's my excuse! Love this year so much for music, so many of my favourite songs are from it. The days before reality TV spoiled everything...
August 29, 200816 yr Awful chart -_- only one's I remotely could listen to 14 Texas - Summer Son 16 Travis - Why Does It Always Rain On Me? 27 Madonna - Beautiful Stranger 39 Stereophonics - I Wouldn't Believe Your Radio

Love this year so much for music, so many of my favourite songs are from it. The days before reality TV spoiled everything... this demonstrates why i like to include recent charts in retro... billy clearly has the same passion for music that us older ones have and holds up 'his' era as 'the best' in the very same way we do for 'our' era. of course it wasnt the best year ever, as there was little variety and not much original cutting edge music, however he is spot on about dance... 1999 was possibly the best year for dance as there WAS alot of original sounds around ....

September 3, 200816 yr An all-time low in retro charts and almost certainly the worst ever period for pop music. There isn't a single song out of the 40 that I would like to listen to and even dependable acts like Chemical Brothers and The Divine Comedy had poor singles out. <Comic Book Guy>Worst. Chart. Ever.</Comic Book Guy>

Me likes: 1 DJ Jurgen Presents Alice Deejay - Better Off Alone 2 Westlife - If I Let You Go (decent for a Westlife single, still, Alice DJ should've been #1 instead) 3 Geri Halliwell - Mi Chico Latino 4 Bran Van 3000 - Drinking In L.A. 6 Ricky Martin - Livin' La Vida Loca 10 Shaft - (Mucho Mambo) Sway 11 Five - If Ya Gettin' Down 12 TLC - Unpretty 13 Basement Jaxx - Rendez-Vu 14 Texas - Summer Son 15 Whitney Houston - My Love Is Your Love 16 Travis - Why Does It Always Rain On Me? 17 Phats & Small - Feel Good 18 ATB - 9pm (Till I Come) 19 Britney Spears - Sometimes 22 Apollo Four Forty - Stop The Rock 23 Binary Finary - 1999 25 The Vengaboys - Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom!! 26 Shania Twain - That Don't Impress Me Much 29 Jennifer Lopez - If You Had My Love 33 Yomanda - Synth And Strings 35 Destiny's Child - Bills, Bills, Bills 37 S Club 7 - Bring It All Back
September 3, 200816 yr thats only your opinion, personally id cite ten years earlier, 1989 as the worst! :P ...and yours! I'll take the Happy Mondays and Stone Roses over Stereophonics and Travis, S'Express over DJ Jurgen and erm DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince over Will Smith any day!
September 3, 200816 yr Author ...and yours! I'll take the Happy Mondays and Stone Roses over Stereophonics and Travis, S'Express over DJ Jurgen and erm DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince over Will Smith any day! i think it depends upon your age, as we have said before, the era when you get into music is more often then not considered ones best year ever... just look at xylem, citing y2k.. i never liked the mondays or the roses, not that im enamoured with the stereophonics or travis, i prefer dj jurgen anyday to s.express who i never could take too (though in retrospect they werent thatbad, worn well :) ) i cant abide jazzy jeff, the fresh prince OR will smith! but as ive often said, i liked the dance flavour of 99, i didnt like any flavours of 89.

Heh heh, we must agree to differ yet again. I honestly hated the music around 1998 to 2000 though...the one great thing it did was make me delve back into the past instead and check out older acts like The Clash, Joy Division, Julian Cope and, well, the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band for starters.

September 4, 200816 yr In 1999 I got 'The Box' on cable and everything just changed for me forever, I had all the current songs in front of me for the first time and watched it religiously, ringing up and requesting all my faves. That was the very moment I first got into music. I still remember the songs I taped off that channel: Steps - Better Best Forgotten  Cartoons - Witch Doctor   Fatboy Slim - Right Here Right Now (actually it's still cool to like this, the video's still amazing) Various Artists (including Steps) - Thank ABBA For The Music    Then in 2001 I watched a channel called 'VH1' for the first time and discovered the 1980s, but I'll never forget '99 as the year it all started for me!
