I hope it does not go to #1 it will screw my database  as I like to write things in full

#100 sounds more apt, it won't have a video and I can't see it getting any airplay, it's a very American sounding song

Thank god for that, as I just did a trail run on my database and it looks awful  Let's hope it dosen't get downloaded in masses.

Certainly loooaads of information this week.

The album chart is also home to some much needed excitement this week with six new entries inside the top ten. Reunited rock superstars The Verve as expected go straight in at No.1 with comeback album Forth, the belated follow up to the multi million selling 1997 classic album Urban Hymns. US rockers Slipknot go straight in at No.2 with their highly anticipated new album All Hope Is Gone. Irish trio The Script slide to No.3 with last week’s No.1 album, their eponymous debut. American folk singer Eva Cassidy died from cancer in 1996 but didn’t have mainstream success until 2001 when a BBC screening of her cover of ‘Somewhere Over The Rainbow’ made her a household name. Her albums Songbird, Imagine and American Tune all topped the UK chart. Somewhere, another posthumous album debuts this week at No.4. Michael Jackson’s new hits collection King Of Pop goes in at No.5 to coincide with the legendary singer’s 50th birthday. ABBA’s Gold drops to No.6 this week whilst Duffy’s Rockferry finally leaves the top five, sliding from No.3 to No.7 on its 26th week out. Coldplay’s former No.1 album Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends dips to No.8 this week whilst US rapper The Game goes in at No.9 with new album L.A.X. British singer-songwriter Teddy Thompson rounds off the top ten with A Piece Of What You Need which goes straight in at No.10 this week

Interesting re Eva Cassidy how just one tune could propel her into posthumous success.

Well done The Verve.

Another great read, thanks.

I'm sure you would have said the same think about Eva Cassidy and Katie Melua though :P

and a Various Artists single featuring vocals from Mariah Carey, Leona Lewis, Rihanna, Beyoncé, Sheryl Crow, Fergie, Mary J. Blige and Natasha Bedingfield

Already? A bit of promotion could help, its obviously very "promotable" because its for a good cause.

And Rihanna IS a household name now, yes. I think she'll be around for years and years and years to come :D .

yep that's true, although that was a physical single and available in the UK's biggest supermarket...this has no physical to fall back on which is where most charity singles get a large chunk of their sales from

Even with Rihanna's inclusion, I still don't think enough people will be made aware of the track in the UK...big star studded charity singles come out all the time and go unnoticed because of lack of media promotion
