Do you mean like James Morrison (who is A-listed with his latest dirge) appeals to the headbanger generation? Nah, it's a grudge plain and simple.. but it doesn't matter. Will is doing just fine without them, so who cares?

:o James Morrison new song is great

James Morrison does appeal to younger people YES :/

Gosh it isn't a grudge. Radio doesn't work like that; especially public radio. Scott Mills is a DJ. He has NO say on the playlist.

Seriously get over it. There's fanship and then there's stanship...

No, it isn't. I can't see his album selling too well off the back of it, either. And (referring to your avatar) the Pussycat Doll's comeback is underwhelming to say the least. Maybe it would have been better if they'd exchanged 'groupies' for 'boobies'. Just my opinion, obviously. Horses for courses, and all that....

Sorry to disagree - there's a lot more politics goes on behind the scenes than any one of us could imagine:

Who decides which tracks are playlisted?

The new playlist is compiled at a meeting chaired by the Head of Music each Wednesday and is published online at approx. 5.15pm. The Playlist Team, consisting of a varied mix of producers across all shows attend, alongside the Music Team; however everyone from the Controller to the work-experience person can, and frequently does voice their opinion!

What criteria are used in deciding which tracks are added?

Many factors are taken into account and it's a delicate balancing act. We aim to play a mix of genres, ensure we support new UK artists as well as more established acts and feature more challenging tracks not played by most other stations. The newest songs are introduced alongside tracks that are more familiar and popular with listeners.

How much say do the DJ's have in the music played?

Most presenters have records of the week and space to play new tracks they really want to champion. They also have their say on which tracks are added to the playlist, but as well as playing their favourites they are also expected to play tracks other presenters are supporting.

Please don't turn this into a slanging match. RFC I agree that Will's demographic is possibly different from James' but don't dismiss his huge amount of young fans just because older people support him.

P.S. I have the full FAQ if you wish to see it.

I'm so glad Tattoo is back in the iTunes chart. I think it could re-enter the official chart next week.

No-one HAS turned this into a 'slanging match' and please refrain from patronising me.

Ugh, one DJs like of an artist doesn't stop them being playlisted. Stop being so ridiculous! Do you think Annie Mac likes half the stuff she has to spin, Miley Cyrus et al? Of course not. You're being quasi-petty and nonsensical here. Will just doesn't appeal to young people? Can you not accept that? Gosh, such unnecessary blame.

I didn't say it was one DJ - you suggested that Scott Mills didn't have a say in the playlist - I disagreed with you and backed that up. Nothing wrong in that.

And I disagree again - you are making sweeping statements.

Sorry if you feel patronised I just didn't want this turning into a free-for-all. And I'm sorry if you don't like being corrected. And there's no need to be rude.

Actually he does.

Scott Mills is one of the few DJ's who provides input to the weekly Playlist meetings. Hence frequently other DJ's remark when they play the occasional camp record that has made the playlist that it must be (is) Scott Mills fault for having to play it.

However it is a committee decision, so whilst an individual can have an influence, one person alone cannot stop a record being playlisted by a national station.

I think your sweeping statement that Will does not appeal to young people is wide of the mark, I have female friends who have seen Will live and he has a substantial young female fanbase. But I guess looking like a young Bruce Forsyth about to turn 30(?) means he is not suitable for Radio 1 to play.

Especially as Radio 1 is too busy playlisting songs by youngsters like U2 & Madonna.

More likely the influence that Simon Cowell has on Radio 1 (with their X Factor tie ins) means that they are happy to oblige and not playlist his records when they playlist inferior indentikit records by the likes of Sam Beeton & James Morrison.

Peversely, Simon Fuller seems to have a lot of influence on Radio 2 hence (Annie Lennox can release a tuneless record far past her prime and the station will still playlist it), I can easily imagine Radio 1 saying to Radio 2 he is all yours. Whilst seeing that Radio 2 gets over 3 million + more listeners than Radio 1 on a weekly basis and still seems to have the full support of Commercial Radio Stations, then I guess it is not too big a loss to Will or his potential record sales. :D

I don't follow radio that closely but isn't Leona the first person from X-Factor to ever get playlisted on Radio 1? Simon can't have much influence.

Yes you're right Steve Brookstein obviously wasn't playlisted. None of Shayne's singles have ever been playlisted even though they have gone top 10. It remains to be seen whether Leon will be listed.

what about Michelle? Wasnt she from X-Factor?

Nope Pop Idol series 2 winner. Was she playlisted? :o

I think all the winners made the C-list at least. She definitely did.

It's so weird... every time Will Young/Take That release a song their fans are out of the forums in full force, never to be seen before the single release

Just because I don't generally find anything of interest to me personally don't assume I never venture out of the WY forum. I don't have to post in each and every thread, of which there are many, to be an active member. I just don't happen to find a huge amount of the stuff discussed on here by an overwhelmingly male population of particular interest

I don't know what you mean Mikal. I visit and post in the Lounge and Retro forums more than I visit the Take That forum anyway. Not by choice, its just that there's only me and Pete (and lately Ivica) there. It is quite a lonely existence being a Take That fan on Buzzjack. I know most people here would like to have us lined up against a wall and shot!

That sounds a lot like the Beverley Knight forum, it's just me, Aled and occasionally Ivica joining in with the B&I games. :heehee: We should team up, we could have a grand total of five regular posters.

I kind of see Mikal's point with the Will Young fans though - I only seem to see them post on the Will Young related topics. They almost seem separated from the rest of the forum but I could also say this about the Darius Danesh fans and probably others. It's up to them how involved they get with the other areas of the forum I guess.

On a more iTunes related topic, I'm glad to see Jennifer Hudson is up to #46, I really didn't expect it to go top 75. :o
