1 Survivor - Eye Of The Tiger bit of a guilty pleasure, sure I've got the 7" somewhere. I was only a year old, think my Mum bought it for me

the rest I don't know I'm afraid

1 Survivor - Eye Of The Tiger

2 Dexy's Midnight Runners With The Emerald Express - Come On Eileen

3 Duran Duran - Save A Prayer

Now THAT is a classic top 3!! All awesome!

Fantastic early hip-hop from Grandmaster Flash too!

Please find my selected comments below...

8 Boys Town Gang - Can't Take My Eyes Off You

There's a genuinely funny as hell clip of this available from Top of the Pops (I think) with the two campest, rubbish backing dancers ever known...therefore it's ace!

9 Toto Coelo - I Eat Cannibals (Part 1)

Despite all wearing bing bags and too much hairspray, Toto Coelo's only big hit is one of my favourites from this period. One of the girls was Bob Holness' daughter too.

12 Haysi Fantayzee - John Wayne Is Big Leggy

The best thing Jeremy Healy ever did...well apart from 'Shiny Shiny' obviously.

13 Irene Cara - Fame

One of my earliest musical memories. I actually did believe that she would be able to learn to fly and it became an early ambition as a five year old.

17 Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five - The Message

A landmark in early hip hop and possibly the first to carry conscious lyrics and not rhymes about how many rhymes they can cram into a verse.

21 Tom Tom Club - Under The Boardwalk

Not my favourite by them but a passable cover. Both 'Wordy Rappinghood' and 'Genius of Love' are fantastic.

31 The Stranglers - Strange Little Girl

I heard this live in the summer at T in the Park - sounded ace!

32 Carly Simon - Why

As sampled by A Tribe Called Quest from 'Bonita Applebum' I believe - I prefer their version but appreciate this one.

40 Kid Creole & The Coconuts - Stool Pigeon

Ha cha cha cha!

WOW! THERES SOME CLASSICS IN THIS CHART!

Too right!

I like:

1 Survivor - Eye Of The Tiger

2 Dexy's Midnight Runners With The Emerald Express - Come On Eileen

3 Duran Duran - Save A Prayer - A timeless pop song, that has rarely been beaten taken from the first album I ever bought Rio.

4 Soft Cell - What

7 Dire Straits - Private Investigations

14 Talk Talk - Today

15 ABC - All Of My Heart

17 Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five - The Message

21 Tom Tom Club - Under The Boardwalk

25 Yazoo - Don't Go - Mmmm, the current instrumental at #2 in the charts has clearly heard this tune.

27 Depeche Mode - Leave In Silence

29 Associates - 18 Carat Love Affair / Love Hangover

31 The Stranglers - Strange Little Girl

32 Carly Simon - Why

34 Donna Summer - Love Is In Control (Finger On The Trigger) - A great old fashioned catchy pop tune, that seems to have been lost today as a modern art form.

36 Evelyn King - Love Come Down

37 Thomas Dolby - Windpower

39 Simple Minds - Glittering Prize

40 Kid Creole & The Coconuts - Stool Pigeon

 Been a while since i've been in here - Here are the faves of the cj jury

40 Kid Creole & The Coconuts - Stool Pigeon

:D Some great songs in there

I had the following...

2 Dexy's Midnight Runners With The Emerald Express - Come On Eileen

3 Duran Duran - Save A Prayer

6 Rocker's Revenge featuring Donnie Calvin - Walking On Sunshine (12")

14 Talk Talk - Today

15 ABC - All Of My Heart (on the Lexicon Of Love album)

17 Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five - The Message

22 Shalamar - There It Is (12")

25 Yazoo - Don't Go

27 Depeche Mode - Leave In Silence (12")

36 Evelyn King - Love Come Down

39 Simple Minds - Glittering Prize

The Message by Grandmaster Flash was initially a 12" only release and once it began to take off was made available on 7", which is the version I had. I have a feeling it didn't get a 7" release until it was in the top 10. The 7" contained the full 12" mix though and was edited down for radio, both for running time and language.

One of the worst songs in that top 40 is "Saddle Up" by David Christie which was based / sampled / ripped off the music from "You Can Do It" by Al Hudson from 3 years previous - the latter was a great song but Saddle Up was dreadful...

Quite a good chart, not the best, but some excellent songs in there.
