I haven't heard the album yet as I'm getting it for Chrimbo, but choosing 'Girls' as the lead single was well a deadly one :( I mean compare it to Push The Button, About You Now, and so on, and it comes nowhere near them at all. Lead singles are there for a reason, to set off the first impressions to the album.

I think the best scenario now is to keep it top 40 in the Xmas madness.

I haven't heard the album yet either but I think this could be the 2nd album that the Sugababes released without getting an number one

I love the way people blame the record label when an album doesn't do very well  You wouldn't be moaning about the record label had this had good sales would you? This project hasn't been handled any differently by the label to what the other albums have, have they?

well thats just bull$h!t.

I f***ing despise Island Records, regardless of how much the album sells -_-

anyone heard the Klaus Ahlund remix of Girls? almost makes the song bearable to listen to :o

:naughty: Just a little joke.

Quote from a Popjustice poster who is 'in the know':

Whenever a new album/single/DVD/Book etc is being released the buyers for such companies like HMV will be negotiating with the record label distributors for the price (to get the best deal they can) & where they would like the album to be racked within the store & how much £££ the distributors will pay to have it in that place.

For instance when you see a CD on shelf no2 on a new release drop it has been paid for to be on shelf no2 & has to be there no matter what (unless of course it sells out). This can lead to a bidding war between rival distributors on who gets what & where in such a store.

Last week Universal refused to give HMV a discounted price for Sugababes & Kaiser Chiefs to enable the retailer to sell those new releases for under £10. Because of this HMV decided to show its power (having 36% market share in New Release CD albums) & refused to rack both albums within its new release sections or Front-Of-Store racking. Universal caved in on Kaiser Chiefs' new album, agreed on a discounted price & paid for the FOS position but they failed to agree with HMV over the Sugababes.

So in turn because Universal were being difficult HMV told them to stick it.

I'm sure it won't have affected sales that much - it's only one store and the album can be found elsewhere - but HMV only putting the album in A-Zs and priced at £12 won't have helped. Damn the label for choosing to be stubborn over THIS release.

Its amazing!

$h!ts all over the album/radio edit

No it really doesn't, not for me anyway :heehee: It's lovely but it's more like a demo and if it was used as the single edit the song wouldn't have made the Top 10.

i'm sorry, but i'll have to disagree with you over this. I've agreed mainly about this era

but the remix is better than what they released. the only bit i don't like is the f***ing about with Amelle's line "step aside..."

yeah I agree that remix should have been released instead of the single version.

It doesn't sound like a cover as much and it sounds a bit more edgy.

that's what I thought, sounds a bit more original to me rather than just the exact same instrumentation as the Ernie K. Doe version...I would give it 7/10 which is a big step up from the 1/10 I give the radio edit

will have a fair effect i think, as surpringly or not if people don't see it or it's higher priced than comparable albums they won't necessarily buy (not in week 1 at least). Luckily they have enough loyal fans desperate for a new album to hunt it out or pay but a few 1000 more copies sold from better negotiation on the record company's part could have made it enter a couple of places higher. I note its price most places is relatively high and it's exposure from shelf positioning/instore ads inferior to i'd say at least these CDs this week: AC/DC, Keane, Oasis, Kaiser Chiefs, Leon Jackson, which unfortunately is most of the competition outselling them this week so far

Yeah, it is a really bad situation. If the record company had done it properly, i think it could have been top 5 at least

Ahh, poor Sugababes. The record label really screwed this up for them.

In better news: I now actually like the album!
