October 5, 200816 yr I don't consider it to be a charity single as such. It was never planned as one, nor has it been promoted as one. Boots approached the band when they heard the single and asked if they'd like to support their campaign and to use the single as part of that. It provides publicity for Boots and their charity, provides a little bit of extra publicity for the single and making it more available in physical format, and as part of that, some of the proceeds will go to the charity.
October 5, 200816 yr Yeah its not primarily a charity single, though the sales data question is an interesting one. I hope they do count but the record company decisions so far this era seem to be money motivated rather than chart position, so not sure how much they care. Its not like when they did Walk This Way- a total charity single Also my hometown (and a number of the neighbouring ones) has 2 Boots but no HMV or Zavvi and Woolworths now doesn't sell singles so this could work quite well in boosting sales in mid size towns. All depends on where boots places the singles, if they advertise it at all etc. Edited October 5, 200816 yr by spicefunk
October 5, 200816 yr Doesn't a shop have to sell above a certain no of CDs each week before sales there count for the chart?
October 5, 200816 yr Doesn't a shop have to sell above a certain no of CDs each week before sales there count for the chart? sounds familiar. This worries me! (I mean there's loads of Boots but since their only selling this week will they even bother to set that up?)
October 5, 200816 yr It hasn't been that long!! They were selling albums up until at least 2001/2002 IIRC. They used to do quite good deals so I got some my Christmas presents there. Indeed, but they stopped selling singles in about 1990. I was most put out as I used to pick up the odd bargain in my local branch. I was pretty hacked off at the Sugababes hi-jacking the Ernie K Doe song but I'm less bothered now that I know it's in Boots, for charity and clearly linked. Still think the original is lightyears better though!

Oh...I take back what I said in my first post then. If it wasn't motivated by charity originally then screw the Sugababes' management / label.
October 6, 200816 yr For every copy sold, a donation to the white ribbon charity will be made, for the copies sold in boots, Boots will also make a donation. Boots approached the girls after they first heard 'Girls' and asked them about the charity thing, and the Babes said yes. They believe in the cause and it was their choice, not the Management/Label's. Because lets be honest their management are $h!t
October 6, 200816 yr Cool- has anyone actually seen the single in Boots yet? looked in two quite large branches today and couldn't see anywhere. sure i could've looked harder but there was no stand as you came in the door, or at the tills etc and no posters/ads etc. Quite disappointed as this is a wasted opportunity. Maybe Boots won't have it in til later in the week or its only selected stores. Edited October 6, 200816 yr by spicefunk
October 6, 200816 yr From what I've heard nowhere at all had it today, but on the single slieve they credit Boots so it's defo happening. Obviously they've not taken stock of it yet. Eek.
October 7, 200816 yr I went into 3 stores and couldn't find it- they've screwed this up then haven't they! No posters, no stand etc..... :-(
October 7, 200816 yr Hahahaha only Top 3 for this crazily overpromoted and overrated horrible song... I wonder if the album has any shot at#1, given all the high profile releases in the next weeks...

October 7, 200816 yr Only top 3 is hardly a bad thing  I think it is, considering the overexposure of the song, and they´re a singles act... Top 3 is good for an act like Oasis, who will sell massively with their album.

If anything their album sellers, as they've had their fair share of flop singles.
