October 16, 200816 yr How do you explain then the painfully slow start it had - if as you say people thought it was for charity ... it surely would have been number one on iTunes the very next day ... not entering at a lowly 36. Most people didn't even realise the song was a genuine release even. Are you saying that those people were also daft enough to 'press the purple button' and also 'text in' - because a proportion of this was also 'going to charity'. I honestly think it was made patently clear that it was a spoof and at no point were people misled. There is no sticker on the cd covers saying any proportion of it is for charity (which I believe is usually the case). Its funny how the original poster and Coolnav had no objections to Geraldine's rise ... until it started threatening The Saturdays. And in all honesty ... that is the only problem they have with it. Norma full truth norma
October 16, 200816 yr who cares wether or not its for charity? id ONLY ever buy a record if i liked it and NOT because some charity would get a cut. i fully agree with goodelta, why shouldnt peter kaye and gary barlow make any money out of it? surely nobody is dumb enough to buy it thinking they are contributing to charity? tip... PAY THE CHARITY DIRECTLY! then theyll get ALL of the money!!!
October 16, 200816 yr With the whole irony of the song, i don't really care as long as it enters above Leon on Sunday. I will be content. I would also like to know the faces Simon Cowell has been pulling with each look at the midweeks this week
October 16, 200816 yr Author OK Gremley - final word on the subject - I do appreciate what you are saying that a tiny fraction of people may have thought the song was for charity. It does lead me to an important question. Why didn't they then ask - What charity is it for? Because I don't know about you ... but there are some charities I give to and some that I don't! I don't give to any Tom, Dick or Harry in the street just because he's collecting for charity. I don't know, maybe these people would buy the song if it was in aid of United Terrorists Front as long as it had that magical word 'charity' on it. Anyway Gremley - did you buy the song? Because if you didn't I really don't know why you've got into such a tizzy about it enough to start a thread on a quite laughable subject. You could though, I suppose, make it a bit more interesting and add a poll to it I suppose - at least we'd get an idea of how many gullible people Buzzjack has as members! :) Norma No I didnt buy a copy though it was hard not to after being visually assaulted by the amount of P.O.S in ever supermarket I walk in to. Chris Moyles has been a big supporter of this record which has also helped in promotion. Helps that he is good friends with Kay as well. I just find it interesting that supermarkets have decided to sell this song with such huge promotion which cant have come cheap if it was not for charity. At the end of the day Kay and Barlow will be raking in lots of lolly for poking fun at a talent series that does very well making fun of itself on its own and now he is set to release a further Christmas CD and special. Talk about milking the whole thing for his own benefit. I do think The Saturdays would have made a better number 1 and I didnt like the song on first listen but it is going to be denied by a glorified novelty single that is no better than Bob The Builder or Mr Blobby. They were released to rake in the cash from a gullible public too.
October 16, 200816 yr looks like Pink will deny the No.1 to everyone anyway... it's like the other week when everyone was saying what a crime it was that Oasis lost out to Pink...they ended up at No.3 anyway so would have lost out to Kings Of Leon if the Pink song never existed...
October 16, 200816 yr I'd find it hilarious if it finished higher than Leon on Sunday. Realy hope it does!

They were released to rake in the cash from a gullible public too. It could have happened differently, too. If 'Geraldine' didn't release - The Saturdays might have been no.2 due to other factors - PINK selling more, anohter new release Leon Jackson selling more etc. Would you have been happier if a poor vocalist and performer , as the X Factor winner is, would have topped The Saturdays? If he had more sales? I think not. How is he more credible? Is that XF dirge not released for a gullible audience , to help 'make his life better'? I think that was what he said he does the X Factor for , or for his mum. And we know for sure Simon will make the most , not even that guy's fans realise that :P My problem is: I love both TT and Saturdays - besides PINK- do I bash one for the benefit of the other? No. I'll try stay objective.
October 16, 200816 yr Author My only shock is that Peter Kay is not the runaway winner in the number one slot this week with the amount of places that you can buy the song. Other acts stand no chance of competing on the same level. Edited October 16, 200816 yr by gremley

Thank you. Exactly what I said, but in a longer post. If it wasn't so-and-so , it could have been another. Anyway, all this coulda' shoulda' woulda' will not get us anywhere. the week is not yet finished and The Saturdays might still pip the top spot. Peace! :)
October 16, 200816 yr Actually, to be honest, I'm just thrilled sales are high across the board. Especially by the sounds of it, physical sales. I wonder if this week will be a peak for the physical single this week for this year Edited October 16, 200816 yr by Knightr634

Other acts stand no chance of competing on the same level. Erm, Leon Jackson 's single is sold , in an 'exclusive deal' at Woolworths. It's the only one stocked in Woolies, besides the other supermarkets. Maybe you'd have a bone with that fact - XF & his single gets unfair deals. :naughty: My shock is that single's poor sales. Considering he was the one who got so many votes. Even if I rate it poorly, I thought the XF machine, all the TV interviews and other marketing tactics that XF use will ensure that this week Leon Jackson has the top spot. All the other acts, including Geraldine (that appeared a day later, may I add) stand no chance of competing with XF , usually. Glad this time is different. Edited October 16, 200816 yr by Fahrenheit

I'm actually wondering if Geraldine highlighted the X Factor machine and this stopped or slowed people buying the song. Before Sunday night, it was looking likely that Leon would be getting a #1 or close to it anyway.
October 16, 200816 yr I agree with the point someone made earlier about assuming it was a charity record as Peter Kay involved - it goes to show the amount of work he has put into charity for this assumption to be made. I bought it to help keep Leon down - and the fact that it is a decent funny song. Its a bit presumptuous to assume it is for charity when it doesn't say anywhere that it is...

Before Sunday night, it was looking likely that Leon would be getting a #1 or close to it anyway. If this is the case, then I suggest we all get in touch with The Brits and recommend that Geraldine / Peter be forwarded for the 'Lifetime's Contribution to Music' award instead of Cowell! Norma
October 16, 200816 yr Author Okay I am going to admit defeat and will have to grit my teeth at the inevitable forthcoming Christmas single, dvd, album and tv special. How much longer should the joke be considered funny though before we stop having to dig into our wallets?

October 16, 200816 yr Author i did get the impression it was a charity record  Easy mistake to make then though you would not think it judging by this thread. ^_^
October 16, 200816 yr Coolnav - you haven't even bought the song, neither has the post-starter EXUSE ME, i have indeed bought it.
October 16, 200816 yr EXUSE ME, i have indeed bought it. If that is true then I apologise for that bit of my post. Did you buy it because you like the song or because you feel some sympathy for the injured pole-dancers? Norma
