So Simon Cowell unleashes his latest instrument of torture to the ears an x factor charity single. A not so original cover of a early 90’s Mariah Carey single but possibly a good choice if it has to be a cover given the amount of strong female finalists this year.

The charity aspect is huge here, raising money for better services for injured soldiers. I think this will hit a chord with a lot of people especially with Armistice day and Remembrance Sunday just coming up.

I can see this being HUGE given the cause, opening with first week sales of over 200k and a slow decline from there. Could it spend 7 weeks at No1 until the winner of the x factor gets his or her customary xmas No1? Well there are potentially huge singles from Leona and Take That and strong comebacks from Britney and The Killers. However I suspect this could flirt with the million mark in terms of sales.

Predict Help For Heroes - Hero, released after the performance on Saturday.

1 week at number 1. Sales of around 80k and then a sharp decline.

Oh I do hope you're right.

This really could go either way - It could be huge or it could be a bit of a flop - I do reckon it will get to number one for 2 weeks and go on to sell around 300k
I don't see it being big at all. I think sales of less than 200K overall and a #2 hit which is bad enough to be honest as that would outpeak the original which is one of my favourite Mariah songs. In a way I will be interested in hearing this, but I'm also dreading it because they could murder one of my favourite songs like Leon did to another old favourite of mine, 'When You Believe', last year. -_-

can't guage how well this will do but I'm going to say No.2/3 with sales of 35k...

the physical will sell next to nothing, as it will be available next to nowhere, so the download will have to be huge

I think 500-700k but only number 1 for 2 weeks... (Until Leona is AT LEAST Physically released -_-) Should hang around for a while I think... not sure though. It's too hard to predict when you haven't heard it!

I reckon the track could go to #1 for 2 weeks before getting knocked off by The Killers on downloads.

It also depends if some retail stores are stocking it as all the proceeds of the single are going to charity, it might get stocked at Woolies or Tesco.

I can't really put a figure to it, when I haven't heard it, I know its a cover version of Hero, but all I know its going to be a trash version, as most of the performers on it can't sing a note to save their own lives.

I truly hope that the next million-selling single is by a song that captivated people for itself and not because it's for charity.

^^ For some reason I can't see Britney making #1 on downloads, maybe its just me picturing it. The track does nothing for me, prepares for someone to chuck a dummy at me.

Probably #1, but won't sell that much 150k-200k in total.

Shops like Zavvi and Woolies stock 'event singles' like ones for charity and X Factor winners <_< so maybe it will sell well on physical

Womaizer is AMAZING Martin - Definately a number one in the making i reckon :)

Its OK but its not amazing. Girls Aloud's The Promise and for that matter the Sugababes new singles are equally as good as if not better than Britney's latest offering.

I do think all of us on BJ (yes - even including me from time to time  ) are 'over-generous' when describing the music of our favourit acts.

Back to this charity song though ... I can't stand them!!!! I think I'll pay a fiver for my poppy this year instead of buying this Simon Cowell advert.

Leona is released digitally and physically the week after the charity song.

Hopefully its as successful as the Pop Idol one from a few years back

You mean making No5 - being beaten by Avid Merrion in the process - then falling out of the Top 40 about three weeks later?
