Unless you've been living under a rock for the past 14 years, you'll be well aware of the infamous Guns N' Roses album Chinese Democracy, which many thought would never see the light of day. However, the wheels are in motion for a release on November 23rd (24th in UK), and the first single from the album, also entitled 'Chinese Democracy', has been debuting on radio stations across the world today. You can hear it on the Sara Cox show from Radio 1 today if you check it out on the iPlayer and forward to around the 1hr 19min mark.

I think it sounds incredible, but then again I'm a HUGE Guns N' Roses fan. What do the rest of you think in regards to chart positions for both the single and the album? I think Chinese Democracy is an almost certainty for No. 1 album, but it remains to be seen how the single will do - a lot of it of course depends on how heavily Radio 1 promote it.

I think the album will do much better than whatever single.

I hate them though and hope they'll flop :D

Hmmm I think the album will do really well. Not no1 though as its out at such a tough time but it should sell a hefty bunch. Though I can only remember their GH being huge... have no idea how their other albums have sold.
The album will get to #1, any rock album goes to #1 these days it seems. Not sure how the single will do, probably top20.

Appetite For Destruction, their first album, is the highest selling debut album of all-time. Their follow-up, Use Your Illusions I and II, debuted at positions #1 and #2 on the Billboard charts. As far as I know, they're the only band to ever achieve that.

Make no mistake about it, from 1989-1991, Guns N' Roses were undisputably the most popular band in the world. The question now is whether the loss of all-but-one of the original band members will be forgiven if the album itself sounds good, or if the diehard GNR fans from their hey-day will simply refuse to support what is essentially an Axl Rose solo act.

Yeah it's strange: Metallica, AC/DC and Guns n Roses next

Then there is a problem, as another rock album - The Killers - is out on the same day...

Guns N Roses will still have a huge fan base, but with 9 of the tracks leaking onto the net back in June, i do wonder whether that may dent the overall sales.
I find Guns N Roses extremely overrated. They bore me. And 14 years for this? Its ok but i can think of better ways to spend 14 years :P

There's a BIG difference between the hard-rock of Guns N' Roses and the made-for-radio rock of The Killers.

I do think Chinese Democracy is capable of beating it in the initial sales, as amongst the rock/metal community, the hype behind this album has been incredible. And as AC/DC and Metallica have both demonstrated, a strong and loyal fanbase is all that's needed for a No. 1 album.

Have to say, with GNR, Metallica and AC/DC all releasing great albums this year, proper rock is on the resurgance once again. All this indie tripe is awful and nothing compared to the classic, hard-rock acts. That's why GNR will beat The Killers come November 23rd.

Is it definitely coming out? I won't believe it until I actually see it in a shop tbh! Top 3 album, maybe even No.1. The only one I have is their Greatest Hits which is very good.

If it's out Nov. 24th then it's up against Killers so they'll beat GnR.

Nah I don't think so. There'll be a lot of hype around GNR, but The Killers will beat GNR's first week sales i'm very sure. Both will have hugh sales, but i'm sure The Killers will sell more. But still they're GNR, and they'll sell very well... probably the same amount AC/DC and Metallica both sold in first week sales.

I must say I forgot how bad Axl's voice was until I heard this track...

AC/DC are class. =D So were Guns N Roses. I've heard that this is more in favour of 'Appetite For Destruction' influences (hopefully). Their GH sold well, and this has always been moderately hyped, but the fact that GnR are such a joke now could determine their success...

ONE question though.... WHY aren't they leading the release with 'Shacklers Revenge'? It's a much better song.

I´d hardly call Metallica, AC/DC and Guns N Roses "any" rock bands tough... It´s hardly a surprise to see them at #1 since their legends. Plus, let´s be honest, rock always had more credibility then the average pop acts. A rock band can spend 10 years without a new album and still be remember. A pure-pop act who left that long to come back would become anonymous.

I don't know what the fanbase is like in the US or the UK, but here in Australia it's bloody huge. They will trump The Killers easily here by about 2:1 :)

I would have thought that they'd take out #1 over The Killers pretty much everywhere though!

Wrong interpretation of my post!

I meant it's strange that they are back in the same time with new albums. It's like the one had big success, and the other one saw that and tries it too. I know this is not the case, but it looks like. :D

It is interesting to see the three biggest rock/metal acts of the 80s/90s all releasing a 'comeback' record (or in AC/DCs case a farewell record) in the same year.

From what I've heard of Chinese Democracy, it's fantastic, although I think that Metallica's Death Magnetic is the best of the big-three.
