Yeah there's nothing even remotely Gaga about it. It's just a shame the label intervened. If there were twice as many ballads in the vain of I Am and All I Need I'd literally be in heaven.

The ballads are good but there's nothing that holds a candle to 'Hurt', 'Beautiful' or 'The Voice Within' like I hoped there would. :(

Expecting anything to come close to 'Hurt' would be a tall order though, that blew my brain when I first heard it.

*edit so I don't spam: 'Elastic Love'  I know it's heavily M.I.A. especially with her involvement but it's so good to see her diversify her sound like that.

The album's very much a mixed bag. I really enjoy a good nine or ten songs but not everything goes with the rest if I'm making sense. How can Prima Donna be from the same album as I Am, and Desnudate from the same album as Lift Me Up? I know you could say the same for Beautiful and Dirrty but it feels so much more extreme here. I've had to make two playlists, one for the creative stuff/ballads and the other for the Polow and Tricky productions.

I Am and Elastic Love are pretty much Xtina classics already though so that's something.

I've made it the whole way through now and I didn't find anything that doesn't deserve a second try. I know what you mean about it being pretty eclectic but, like you say, she's always been like that. Even on "Back To Basics, the two discs didn't do much to help. "Candyman" and "Hurt" on the same disc seemed odd. I suppose it's more obvious here because, intros aside, it's a bit shorter than is usual for her.

Surprised to see you loving "Elastic Love" though, considering how your past record with M.I.A. is.

'Vanity' is terrible! Especially the ending...

My favourites are 'Elastic Love', 'All I Need', 'Woohoo' and 'My Girls'.

I've seen people calling this deperate but I really don't see how it is at all. It's the complete opposite imo, not jumping on any bandwagons, as Aaron says.

I see what you mean with the ending, it made me go 'aww' though.

After this first listen I'd say "Not Myself Tonight" is probably the most desperate she gets. (maybe because I've heard it most) It's one you have to be in the mood for, some of the lyrics on it make me cringe. ("if you don't like it f*** you"/"I'm kissing all the boys and girls" are a bit...'so what?') Really don't get the 'we have GaGa now' comments as, to me, "Glam" is basically the only thing 'GaGa' about it. I think she's much more inspired by M.I.A., Sia etc. (hence their inclusions)

New Pictures.

WOW. Why wasn't this picture used as the front cover?!

Anyway. My first listen rate:

06 'Bionic'

06 'Not Myself Tonight'

07 'Woohoo'

05 'Elastic Love'

05 'Desdunate'

'Love & Glamour' (INTRO)

05.5 'Glam'

06 'Prima Donna'

'Morning Dessert' (INTRO)

07 'Sex For Breakfast'

08 'Lift Me Up' [i must say this is actually slightly (only slightly) disappointing, and nowhere near as good as I thought/hoped it would be :(, maybe one of those "better live than studio" sorta songs...]

'My Heart' (INTRO)

07 'All I Need'

08 'I Am'

08.5 'You Lost Me'

07 'I Hate Boys'

06 'My Girls'

07.5 'Vanity'

Overall (avg. rating): 6.6

Well, the first half is a major letdown for me personally. But from 'Sex For Breakfast' until the end, the album is actually quite good. 'You Lost Me' is easily my favourite ballad/song overall though. At the beginning, Christina was unrecognisable to me and it I actually started thinking they were other artists tracks (i.e. M.I.A, Nicki Minaj etc...) but that's probably down to them being involved in the album and being obvious influences more than anything (It's a shame I don't like much of the said artists own music, as I think I'd enjoy the tracks more. But especially from 'Lift Me Up' it sounds alot more like what Christina should be doing instead. (Does anyone get where I'm going with this? haha) The album is better than I thought it would be after my initial disappointment of 'Not Myself Tonight'. Nice to see her give us some brill ballads too

Album 7.5/10

first listen/pre-release:

10: Bionic - loving this right now.

09: Not Myself Tonight - decent lead single but there's better on the album.

07: Woohoo - a bit annoying. not because of nicki, just the chorus.

09: Elastic Love - love this.

08: Desnudate - this is good, although some parts are annoying.

09: Glam - don't get the hate for this really, I like it.

08: Prima Donna - hmm the parts after the middle of the song remind me of some other song. this is good though.

07: Sex For Breakfast - meh. it's ok, was expecting something more extreme from the title.

07: Lift Me Up - again, it's alright, but nothing amazing.

07: All I Need - another dull song... ah. probably could grow.

09: I Am - a much better ballad than the last couple of songs.

08: You Lost Me - this is also a good ballad, although still nothing that I'll remember really. reminds me of 'hurt' but not as good.

10: I Hate Boys - awesome  great way to liven things back up after all the ballads.

09: My Girls - another great upbeat track.

09: Vanity - weird way to close the album, but eh, it's a great song. I lol'd at the end of the song though.

verdict - it's decent, but was expecting more energy in it. right now I'm not seeing much, but it'll most likely grow.

I haven't listened to the whole record yet, and to be honest, I didn't intend to - until hearing "You Lost Me". I couldn't even finish "Not Myself Tonight", quite enjoyed "WooHoo" but this is just magical. Seriously, the song is contructed so brilliantly, I think it may be one of my favourite Christina tracks of all time (not that I'm much of a fan anyway). I don't know why I connect with the song itself, it's not something I can really relate to, but when I heard it something just "clicked", you know? Extremely impressive.

'Lift Me Up' is seriously stunning. Haven't heard the live version of it much so don't really have it to compare against but yeah I love it. The album as a whole is pretty solid - love 'Desnudate', 'Woohoo' and 'Elastic Love' too.

'Sex For Breakfast' is really lame though.

This really hasn't clicked for me yet. :( Will have to give it another run through tomorrow, but so far I've listened twice and can't even remember how any of the songs go. :( Apart from 'Not Myself Tonight' of course.

i feel the same way about 'you lost me', which is weird, cause i can't really relate to the song either.

i also love elastic love and i am.

i've listened a lot to the live version of 'lift me up', so i can't avoid the comparison and like the acoustic version better.

desnudate and vanity are also quite catchy

i think it's a great album, but i'm surprised by the marketing

btw, her official site is relaunched.

I think the ballads are probz the best part of the album, some songs are doing anything for me yet, but I think they will all grow..

The live (and broken down, with Linda Perry on Piano (of Hurt fame)) version is on the Hope for Haiti (or was it Help for Haiti) album. If you like the studio version you really should download the live one. It is awesome. just one of those moments..... like when she did Oh Mother on her Back to Basics tour. (just my humble opinion of course !)

Cant believe some of the lyrics too :o especially in I Hate Boys and Vanity! She's got a kid for Gods sake.

She's tried too hard and she's failed IMO.
