November 17, 200816 yr Don't make such turdified comparisons. 45k over three weeks is decent, plus going into Christmas now they're in a very good position... sales literally explode next month.
November 17, 200816 yr Author Sales for the part of the charts they are in are very good and 45k for an album who's dropped this quickly are very good just not as impressive as id like them to be.
November 17, 200816 yr i can't see them being dropped as long as the next 2 singles make the top 10. it will depend on that i think before another album is considered
November 17, 200816 yr Don't make such turdified comparisons. 45k over three weeks is decent, plus going into Christmas now they're in a very good position... sales literally explode next month. what?.... do you think sales of 'chasing lights' will increase?... 'explode'? nah.... you might like them but the general public obviously dont. 45k over 3 weeks?... their managers will make the decision on whether or not they are financially viable and whether their investment money could be better spent elsewhere. remember, the saturdays are a PRODUCT, not an artist being sponsored to create music.
November 17, 200816 yr you might like them but the general public obviously dont. Do you get off on spouting such crud? I bet your desk is covered in white stuff. Why do the public 'obviously' not? Up has been a fairly huge hit. That means people DO like them... it just means that after only being on the scene a very short time, there's not enough evidence that they're as good as that song just yet. If 'Issues' is a hit, people will be more likely to part with their cash. For a NEW pure pop act, the sales are good. Not amazing, but good. And yes, sales WILL increase. I'm not sure you understand just HOW much albums sell in December. In the average week a number 10 album sells 10-15k - this week it was 30k and it's going to get to triple that in three weeks or so. They could fall out of the Top 75 and still see a sales increase. Check your factsss.
November 17, 200816 yr but thats pretty poor, i wouldnt presume to know what figure they have to make to continue to be a viable money making project.... its a simple equasion, unless the monetary returns/profits arnt high enough following all the investment..... they WILL be dropped. Why is there even an argument about whether they get a second album? Mollie has confirmed that the girls are prepping for album two and that they are writing for it... They have NOT or are going to be dropped. Don't know as much as you'd like to think, do you? Discussion over. Edited November 17, 200816 yr by PeytonDavis
November 17, 200816 yr Oooh are the girls actually going to be doing some writing for their next album? :o

Check your factsss. funnily enough 'up' was a track in last night pop music quiz.... we were the only team to identify it! so there you go... the public dont even KNOW them! up has been a reasonable hit amongst pop fans, but unlike katie perry, pink, kings of leon, (the list is very long) they are still reletively unknown or and unliked. 'up' dispite its annoyingly catchy hook, hasnt broken through its target audience market.... otherwise it would still be up there as a long running top ten hit. of course im totally ignorant as to how many albums sell in the run up to christmas, thanks for enlightening me! .... that though aint the argument, the facts are that unless they make 'x' ammount profit then they WILL be dropped, they are an investment, a money making project, now im not yet saying that they are financially unviable simply because im not the accountant. im pointing out that there IS a line they have to cross otherwise its goodbye saturdays. im suggesting that the sales are lower then they should be thus endangering their viability. Why is there even an argument about whether they get a second album? Mollie has confirmed that the girls are prepping for album two and that they are writing for it... They have NOT or are going to be dropped. Don't know as much as you'd like to think, do you? Discussion over. oh grow up..... products like this can be dropped at the whim of their management. nothings in the bag yet although they are atm working towards the second album. i suspect that with the financial crisis they will be scrutinising every act they are using, and the facts are simple... they have to be financially viable, they have to make a profit of 'x' minimum, otherwise they WILL be dropped. like ive said, im not their accountant, so i dont know how much profit they have made against investment made into the product, but with 'up' failing to be a long term top ten, and the album bombing quickly, the signs are not good, their future is far from secure.
November 18, 200816 yr Don't make such turdified comparisons. 45k over three weeks is decent, plus going into Christmas now they're in a very good position... sales literally explode next month. Really, a "turdified comparison" is it...? Fukk off.....  Why is it then Jark...? Because it clearly does NOT fit into your pathetic world view that manufactured pop is "better" and sells more than any other form of music... Metallica and The Saturdays are both playing in the same chart mate, their albums are BOTH in HMV and Zaavi, so how is it such a cr@p comparison...? No, you just cant handle the fact that as far as albums go, The Saturdays are being beaten utterly hands down by - shock - a METAL band...... Well, get used to it kid, because when it comes to albums, Rock sh!ts all over Pop anyday, look at Coldplay (I dont like em, but the example is totally valid)... Christmas dont mean jack sh"t either... I mean, like all of a sudden, The Saturdays are gonna spike 2.5 million to compete with Metallica are they, or Evanescence's last album which sold over 3 million in three months as well in 2006 (with worldwide sales NOW at over 6 million, who the hell needs to sell singles when you can sell that many albums.. )....?? Gimme a break.....  Oh, by the way, Slipknot peaked higher in UK albums charts too - No 2......ROFLMAO.......
November 18, 200816 yr They have NOT or are going to be dropped. Yeah, I bet All Saints thought that as well....
November 18, 200816 yr oh grow up..... products like this can be dropped at the whim of their management. nothings in the bag yet although they are atm working towards the second album. i suspect that with the financial crisis they will be scrutinising every act they are using Totally mate... A case in point, when Sony bought out Metal label Music For Nations, they basically gutted the label's roster, dropping just about every single act that didn't match up to what they thought was shifting "sufficient units".... Most of these bands found a home at Roadrunner (a specialised Metal label) or American, and are positively thriving on these labels.. Cradle of Filth did one album for Sony, and found it a totally wretched experience (and unsurprisingly it was their poorest received album).... They are, now, funnily enough, with Roadrunner and selling more than ever.....
November 18, 200816 yr funnily enough 'up' was a track in last night pop music quiz.... we were the only team to identify it! so there you go... the public dont even KNOW them! up has been a reasonable hit amongst pop fans, but unlike katie perry, pink, kings of leon, (the list is very long) they are still reletively unknown or and unliked. So why would the record company be approaching producers and writers, who will need to be PAID, if they're not serious about the second album? You talk about making profit and such... I'm pretty sure Polydor aren't going to just throw away money in, like you say, the financial crisis. And as for "Up failing to be a long term top 10, their future is far from secure...", Leona's 'Forgive Me' has gone 5-10 so far... is her future not secure? This late in the year, it's very hard to stay in the top 10 for a lengthy time without a secure fanbase and after 2 singles, it's not that big. I think it was 4 weeks that they had in the top 10. For an act that only previously had one week in the top 10, that's 300% better.... surely?
November 18, 200816 yr Really, a "turdified comparison" is it...? Fukk off.....  Why is it then Jark...? Gimme a break.....  Oh, by the way, Slipknot peaked higher in UK albums charts too - No 2......ROFLMAO....... Oh by the way... this is the pop forum. Yes, you can compare them because they are in the same chart and can be bought at the same store. But first of all, there's many more mainstream pop acts than there is of these shockingly dreadful METAL bands. I'm pretty sure that if you combined the pop sales with the metal sales, Pop would come out laughing. Which should show you that pop is overall the more popular genre and people buy more pop. Look at the current top 10 singles... 7 are pop. And in the current top 10 albums... 5 are pop.
November 18, 200816 yr Oh by the way... this is the pop forum. By the way, "pop" was originally used as shorthand for Popular Besides by using the umbrella, generalised term "rock" I am also including acts like Coldplay as well as Metallica, and indie acts too.... Seeing as how this seems to be what the industry and record shops themselves do as well.... On A GLOBAL level, Rock is always gonna come out on top.... There is NO single Pop act that's gonna sell as many records on a global level as Metallica have in the past two months, The Saturdays will be lucky to even make at TENTH of "Death Magnetic"'s overall sales, not even Girls Aloud will make a dent in that either, and they are VASTLY better than The Saturdays.... And, by the way, these "shockingly dreadful" Metal acts have more creativity and musical skills in the dirt under their finger nails than ANY pop act you care to mention.....
November 18, 200816 yr I love how you've completely ignored everything else I put in my last post. The point I was trying to make is that if you want to go and kiss Metallica's ass, there's a forum for that.
November 18, 200816 yr So why would the record company be approaching producers and writers, who will need to be PAID, if they're not serious about the second album? For an act that only previously had one week in the top 10, that's 300% better.... surely? my latest posts on the saturdays are merely suggesting that dispite the hype, they haven't done THAT well, not well enough to secure their future. i'm sure polydor are serious, they want to make money! and that's the crux of it all... i'd be very surprised if they are dropped after 1 album, but the producers now have alot of work to do in order to secure the saturdays long term future. if 'chasing lights' had been HUGE and stayed around much longer shifting twice as many units then their future would look far more promising. the next album HAS to be better, their material HAS to improve , they HAVE to appeal to a wider audience, polydor aren't doing this for love.... they are doing it for money.
November 18, 200816 yr Really, a "turdified comparison" is it...? Fukk off.....  Why is it then Jark...? Gimme a break.....  Oh, by the way, Slipknot peaked higher in UK albums charts too - No 2......ROFLMAO....... They're RIDICULOUS comparisons because you're compared an act who are new with metal bands with established fanbases. The Saturdays have not been around long enough to gather up millions of buyers. It's ALSO ridiculous because you're comparing the GLOBAL sales of these people with the UK-only sales of the Sats. They're ALSO ridiculous because you're comparing acts who are marketed at and appeal to two completely different audiences. It's like saying Hollyoaks getting 2 million viewers is appalling because Eastenders gets 10 - nothing at all in your comparison is RELATIVE.
November 18, 200816 yr funnily enough 'up' was a track in last night pop music quiz.... we were the only team to identify it! so there you go... the public dont even KNOW them! Yes, I realise that their target market of largely female, mostly teen buyers will have populated your local... jesus, apply some logic. FACT - Up has been a massive hit. It's too early to call the album one way or another. OPINION - The public dislike/hate them. If you're so intelligent I'm quite sure you'll be able to distinguish between the two.
November 18, 200816 yr While I wouldn't ever want to use the phrase 'turdified comparison' :P, it is such an irrelevant point to compare Metallica with the Saturdays. It can so easily be done the other way around, take a new indie/metal (don't think I can't tell the difference, by the way, you mentioned indie AND metal as being more prolific sales wise) group and compare them to a well established popstar. You don't hear us going 'Oh my god, the Wombats are such a failure - they've sold next to nothing compared to Madonna' - of course they haven't, they've been around for a fraction of the time, haven't had chance to build up such a solid fanbase and besides - not every act can be the biggest seller in their genre, and there are thousands of pop acts out there. For a new girlband they have exceeded expectations. And I'm not a total pop lover before you call it bias, I prefer the Wombats to Madonna by about a million percent before my other example. They are NOT totally failing, and from what I've seen, the public is quite fond of them.
