Posted October 29, 200816 yr Hero, the new track by the X Factor finalists, could become one of the biggest-selling releases of the decade, according to figures out today. The single has been recorded for The Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal and Help for Heroes, a charity that provides support for wounded servicemen and women. It is already certain to land this week's No 1, removing Girls Aloud and their new single The Promise from the top spot. Hero is expected to sell more than 300,000 copies across the UK this week, but as many as 500,000 singles could fly off the shelves if stock does not run out. The cover of Mariah Carey's hit is performed by The X Factor's 12 finalists and made its debut on Saturday night's ITV1 show. HMV spokesman Gennaro Castaldo said: "This is proving to be one of the biggest single releases for years if not the decade. "Only Leona Lewis's debut hit A Moment Like This, which sold over 500,000 copies in its first week, can compare. "It's selling more than most Christmas No 1s would, and HMV has placed an urgent order for more copies. "Hero has sold over 100,000 copies in its first two days alone, and the only thing that may hold back sales this week is whether the manufacturers can keep pace with the growing demand for the CD single, although the option to download is always there." from msn.com :o

October 29, 200816 yr It's not a very good version of the song but at least it's doing good for the charity.
October 29, 200816 yr The british public have no taste, I know its going to a worthy cause, but its not even perfomed that brilliant. We must be a nation of sleeping sheep. (sorry T.I.P. I used your sheep statement)
October 29, 200816 yr You bunch of spoil sports! Come on It probably isn't the best track but It's for charity and at least the finalists get their 5 mins! If it wasn't for the X-factor we would never have found Leona! I think it's a brilliant Show as it helps find British talent!! :yahoo:
October 29, 200816 yr Looks like Leona will have to settle for #2 next week, I prefer Leona over the X Factor track anyday.
October 29, 200816 yr I am sure Leona will Make it to the top spot! Slightly off topic but is she performing on the X-Factor?
October 29, 200816 yr Err, Will Young's Evergreen sold over 400K on it's first day of release and sold 1.1 million in it's first week....Heroes and Leona's single don't come anywhere near those sales
October 29, 200816 yr shayne wards sold more in one week than leona lewis did he not? Yes 'That's My Goal' sold more in the first week and more overall than 'A Moment Like This', and has already been mentioned Will Young sold more than either of them.

October 29, 200816 yr yea they are probably out on a whole lets big up leona crusade lol Yes Gennaro Castaldo frequently seems to act as a mouthpiece for Simon Cowell, 'That's My Goal' sold 742,000 in it's first week, Will Young over 1 million - so it's all total rubbish and hype. Of course 4th or 5th biggest/ fastest selling hit of the decade doesn't sound as good as 'Biggest Hit Of The Decade' does it?

And I'm almost certain that Gareth sold more then Shayne in his first week, with UM, so definitely more than Leona. Not sure of the figures though (think it may have been around 800,000).

Not sure of the figures though (think it may have been around 800,000). I'm sure you're right which is why I said 4th or 5th biggest of the decade - so bigger/faster selling hits - so far we have Will Young, Gareth Gates, Shayne Ward and Leona Lewis.
