cheers dave!

Looking at that chart in 1989 I owned a few of the singles in there. Having bought literally thousands of singles from about 1977 to 1985 (I once counted them and there was well over 3,000) I stopped buying them in 1986 and apart from one or two purchases in 1987 or 1988 I didn't really bother. Towards the back end of 1989 I got back into buying them again for a while, buying perhaps 2 or 3 a week for a while. I stopped buying them again about 1991 and that has been it really, apart from random buys now and again and nothing at all for the past two years or so.

In the current chart, do you have a guesstimate of what sales we could be looking at for the X Factor / Girls Aloud singles? Sales info has been sparse this week and all sales info for the X Factor single has been taken from quotes in media articles about the song, with very little evidence of actual sales.

James is in a combined artist/compilation chart at 38...next door to The Cure, who struggle at 39.

Thanks for the info Dave.

We were looking on 250,000 today...I heard, which is possibly more. It has to go some tomorrow. Double??

Girls Aloud were said to have dropped their sales this week, as I believe "Hero" was selling 5 times as many during the day early in the week. I would say info has been kept "scarce" this week for that reason! I wonder what it will be by Saturday night.

wow that's that huge, Beyonce, Leona and Christina will have to settle for a top 5 to 10 placing next week.

Do you think the track can stay there for at least 3 to 4weeks :(

I would say looking at pre-orders, we can expect "Hero", to stay at the top for about 4 weeks...where it will take best seller of 2008. Take That are looking likely to take top spot on Sunday 30th Nov, with "Greatest Day" and a pretty huge pre-order...and would you believe those "silly people", at certain Radio Stations are still playing "Rule The World!" Which is a year on!!!!

Will Young could challenge on Sun 7th Dec, with "Grace" but downloads may go against him.

Don`t expect Britney, or Beyonce to do much in the top 5...and it look`s like Christina has just about dried up!

I still have the feeling that the X Factor record will plummet "X Factor winner" style next week to around 100k, maybe even lower.

It is getting virtually no airplay and there is no video AFAIK. Its already lost a massive amount of its lead on iTunes - it was 112% ahead on Wednesday and is now only 48% ahead.

I reckon GA and/or Leona will overtake sometime on Monday.

The physical % of the X Factor record is therefore going to be crucial next week - if that tails off as the downloads are, I think it could be dethroned.

physical is available everywhere though, so it could be more significant than it's becoming for the average single this year. It's available in record shops that don't sell singles anymore, in non-record shops and those that never did sell them either! Is ridiculous for such tripe!
Plus we are getting ever closer to the 11th November, the significant date for the charity of which the single is trying to raise money for. I think we can expect at least another 2 weeks at #1.
