42. Blur - The Great Escape

http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/FOODCD14.JPG

Mockney Blur at their peak - although the 1995 follow up to Parklife is very variable in quality! I adored Country House when it was released (almost to obsessive levels) but it now stands as an example of where Britpop and Cool Britannia went horribly wrong. The Universal, with its Clockwork Orange inpsired video and the superb album tracks Best Days and Fade Away save the album and affords it a ceratin grain of respectability.

The Universal:

'I really really could happen'

Pick of the album tracks: Best Days

41. Will Young - Friday's Child

http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/82876557462.JPG

Is Will Young Pop? or, is he a bit of Jazz? Well, either way, I still have one pure Pop album to come. I have been a fan of Will since he shone through on Pop Idol (see he came from Pop Idol, so maybe he is Pop?!) and against the will of Simon Cowell actually won, and then even more unusually made decent music :o I think Friday's Child is his best album by far to date, and easily his biggest seller. I love all thress singles released from the album - Leave Right Now, Your Game and Friday's Child. I am a proud Will Young fan! (and I met him once and pinched his bum :o)

Leave Right Now:

'Somebody better show me out'

Pick of the album tracks: Love The One You're With

David Gray is my favouite so far I think. The first album I ever really listened to (stole it off my Dad :P ) and it's one of my faves of all time I think. Not a bad track on there.

If this is in here I hope to see atleast another four Blur albums to come!

There's not much I own so far, but nothing I wouldn't object to listening to!

40. The Cranberries – Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can’t We?

http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/UNIV0630892.JPG

Probably one of the oldest albums on my countdown, released in 1993, has aged quite well and was a firm favourite of mine in my Uni days. Although album is a tad over-Irish at times, tracks such as the brilliant Linger and Dreams make it all worthwhile (although I was most unamused when DFS used Dreams in an advert a couple of years ago). Dario G sampled Dreams in his top 10 hit Dream To Me in the early 00s.

Linger:

'You got me wrapped around your finger

A New Day At Midnight is pretty good too - ever given it a listen? I could send you some tracks if not.....

Three more Blur albums to come, one just missed out.

39. Keane - Hopes and Fears

http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1735846.JPG

Aah, Keane - marmite music at it's best! This album is just about superb, with just a couple of below par bores - highlights for me are the brilliant Bend and Break (surely this should have been a single?!), Everybody's Changing, Somewhere Only We Know, Bedshaped.... I could go on! This was my fave album of 2004 on and off for a while with The Scissor Sisters, but has been totally eclipsed by another albuym which will appear much later. Follow up Under The Iron Sea (under-rated by most imo) just missed out in the countdown.

Everybody's Changing:

'I can see the pain in your eyes'

Pick of the album tracks: Bend and Break

Love the Scissor Sisters album & Dido Don't Leave Home

38. Arctic Monkeys - Favourite Worst Nightmare

http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/ARCTICMAREPRECD.JPG

Following their massive debut impressively, Favourite Worst Nightmare was on top of my album chart for 15 weeks in 2007! Building on their distinctive sound and style, this album really cemented the Monkeys as one of the best rock bands of the 00s. Singles Brianstorm, Flourescent Adolescent and Teddy Picker are superb, as is the 'should have been a single' 505. But, was it a mecca dobber or a betting pencil??

Flourescent Adolescent:

'You used to get it in your fishnets, now you only get it in your night-dress'

Pick of the album tracks: 505

Chris-o-meter:

 Arctic Monkeys

 Cranberries

37. Travis - The Man Who

http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/isom9cd.JPG

Another slow burning album, which would end 1999 as the UK's biggest selling album of the year. Mellow to the extreme, Travis have developed their soft rock sound nicely away from the danger area of blandness with album highlights Writing To Reach You, Driftwood and the now legendary Why Does It Always Rain On Me?

Driftwood:

'Hollow and of no use'

Pick of the album tracks: As You Are

36. Mylo - Destroy Rock and Roll

http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/BFD007ACDX.JPG

A chilled album (with a bit of house thrown in!) from the Isle of Skye's top DJ, which I grew to love in 2005 after hearing the Boy Meets Girl (Waiting For A Star To Fall) sampled In My Arms. The album weas repackaged to include the mash up of Drop/f*** The Pressure and Miami Sound Machines Doctor Beat making Doctor Pressure.

In My Arms:

'In my arms baby, yeah'

Pick of the album tracks: The Valley of the Dolls

35. Daft Punk - Discovery

http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/CDVX2940.JPG

Despite being a huge Daft Punk fan following 1997's franco-tastic Homework, the release of Discovery in 2001 really made me appreciate their utter genius. Along the lines of mellowed vibes of electronica such as Air, Daft Pubk have yet to top Discovery imo. Much love.

Digital Love:

'But suddenly I see the shining sun'

34. Radiohead - Kid A

http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/CDKIDA1.JPG

I was initially totally repelled by 2000's Kid A as it followed seminal albums The Bends and OK Computer with a whole new direction, almost designed to wheedle out the casual fan. But, I forced myself to listen to it until I eventually fell for its (at times hidden) genius. Alot of hard work, but very worth it!

Everything In It's Right Place:

'Yesterday I woke up sucking a lemon'

Pick of the album tracks: How To Disappear Completely

33. Arctic Monkeys – Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not

http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/WIGCD162.JPG

Surely one of the greatest debuts albums ever? 2005 was the Monkey's year as I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor was just about everywhere. The album really earns its place here with superb album tracks Mardy Bum, Fake Tales of San Francisco and A Certain Romance.

I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor:

'like a robot from 1984'

Pick of the album tracks: Mardy Bum

 Arctic Monkeys, Daft Punk, perfer 'Homework' though.

 Radiohead, they arent too amazing, and that alvum doesnt even have any amazing tracks on.
