neither do i, but you can't deny that there isn't temptation to alter your vote to let a song you like through over one you don't like. say it misses qualification by one point and it was originally tied with your 12 and you demoted it to 10 after a long day of thought.

Surely the temptation would be there to bump it to 12 and let it through over the song you dislike?

Not accusing anyone of anything here. Just so were clear

True, I just think PMing your votes to a mod is a bit too far. You should be able to trust the host to be responsible with their votes. What next, a character test to decide if people are allowed to host?!

LOL aren't you the one people usually accuse of this?! I don't think hosts vote strategically.

I'm not accusing anyone including myself -_- And 'you're thinking' doesn't mean it can't happen.

And i agree with Phil on the point that we could put mods in charge of providing the security of host's votes ;D

LMAO. You always make an elephant from the fly. -_- Twas just a suggestion y'know.

Of course, it's my role to question new ideas. (at least in my head)

I just think we've gone 14 contests without this, it's not a necessary addition.

We should be able to trust them, yes.

It was just a suggestion to Pavel's question. I'm not suggesting here that it becomes a fully fledged rule or anything.

We currently seem to be at a crossroads in the contest here. We've had the first real argument of the entire contest, and we've had a big mod change. With the NF debate looming, now would be a good a time as any to throw queries and suggestions like these into the open to sort through, and develop them into full formed ideas and then have a full debate on them.

I can't speak for Tom and Tyron, but personally i want to see a greater involvement from everyone else in the shaping of the contests future so we don't have another MF-Gate again, or at least one quite as bad as 4 members leaving. The rules can and should be challenged if you think they are unjust or could do with a tweak.

We went through 6 contests with 10 auto qualifiers.

Doesn't mean it's applicable in the Post Untouched era or the Post MF-Gate era

'If it ain't broken don't fix it' sometimes doesn't work :(

Society/world/etc move on. So as this contest. Conservative ways aren't always productive. But these are only my thoughts. I don't wanna argue. No need to big it into the essay anyone, ok? [/stayingoutoffundamentaldiscussions]

I know, as host of the 7th contest, it was a decision made by me and Tyron to change things. It just didn't make sense to bring 10 through, leaving 15-ish spaces for the 30 other people. Of course, the contest has since exploded so we're practically turning away half of the entrants anyway, there's just no way to fix it this time. 10 pre-qualifiers was accpetable when you had 20-34 people competing, it isn't when we're at 51.

I don't think there's been any changes that now require host votes to be moderated without it being suggested that people can't trust the person hosting the contest?

I think it can work. I'm all for change when I deem it necessary, but none of these recent suggestions seem needed to me.

I always wanted to change my votes to bump up Little Jackie above Lily Allen when I was hosting VIII and they were one point behind but I'd given Little Jackie the maximum 12 anyway so I couldn't have given it anymore

I wouldn't ever change my votes anyway, I'd have too much of a guilty conscience :heehee:

 aw Pavel, we can still get involved with arguments, just after the contest when Tom and Phil open up the list of debates (I hope they have a list written down :heehee:)

I'm not saying that Hosts can't be trusted and therefore must do it.

If we reach that stage we are at a very sad stage in the contest. As i said i was merely developing Pavel's idea further, it wasn't a serious idea that would be developed into a rule.

At least i hope not.

The 10 AQ's was an example, i know that it was impossible at the time. But back when we had a semi to ditch 3 songs it was perfectly fine. Now were almost at the situation where loosing ten times that amount.

By the time XVI and XVII come round and were still getting 50+ i'm sure we'll have come up with a solution that is agreed upon my the majority.

I think we can generally trust the hosts tbh...I also find it ironic that Pavel of all people proposed this :P

I don't think we can go for an 'if it ain't broke' approach seeing as we didn't make up the rules either! :P The current rules were designed for a community with very different standards to ours, and while most of the rules are applicable, IMO some of them (such as the NF rule - which over there prevents entries which would be seen as akin to Jai Ho and Love Story over here :P) aren't at all relevant for us.

*Tom = Slow mod much*

I don't think we mods need to get involved in the voting process unless asked by the host, hosts put in so much time I think the least we can do is put a wee bit of trust in them ^_^ that said, if I were to host again I would probs send my votes to a mod asap to prevent myself changing them to influence the results. For X I saved my votes onto my spreadsheet first of all so i knew I hadn't been influenced by anyone else's voting

I think hosts can be trusted. No need to PM votes. As far as I know, the only person who has ever altered their votes as a host from knowing the results is Pavel?

Janelle Monae is amazing btw. Really, really amazing. I'm trying to see her live. Really intelligent music, all based off an early 20th century silent film called 'Metropolis' and then the relation of prejudice against androids/robots to blacks/gays. Seriousslyyy. Stands out from a lot of the stuff entered here LOL.

One of three Kopecka entries Tyron heard through me I think? Meddle / Many Moons / Money Note...

Money Note will never be a BJSC song for me though. Sorryzzz. Loved Camille far before BJSC. Heartbeats isn't a BJSC song to me either though it's still my favorite entry ever entered.

Hmmm... Excuse me...? Did i EVER say that?

You gave Kopecka less points than you would have normally knowing they already won in BJSCXII? :/ You stated it multiple times. Which is why it's ironic that you're the one pushing for this...

I mean, it's not like the results changed but had you not been host your votes would have been different, which is what you seem to have had an issue with in your previous posts?

I don't remember that i actually did it in XII. The only case that i was talking about is XIII, which i wasn't hosting :) But if i did 'say' that - i'm not going to justify myself and say that it got my 'less' points in the very beginning because blatently none of you will believe me.

Janelle  I hope she comes to the UK soon, the first suite is stunning...when's the second one out BTW? :o

And Ben tends to introduce me to some of my best entries :heehee: I don't think I heard Many Moons through you though, I think I heard it through Jake's thread...but you deffo introduced me to Meddle and Money Note  If you'd been a week or two quicker you'd have introduced me to La Roux too LOL
