November 9, 200816 yr This album is a gem, I love it all and can listen to it on repeat. The single has grown on me IMMENSELY now, it's so emotional really, the lyrics are amazing and the melody sounds so nostalgic. If all the songs are such growers too, it's gonna be one of my fav albums ever. Brillant.
November 9, 200816 yr I also love the album. My favourite track is "Northern Skies". It´s such a perfect ending for this album. Dido has kept the tradition to put a great and extense track to close her album again! There are some tracks I admit are just "average". I´d say Quiet Times, and mainly Look No Further... The latter one is kinda boring, and when I heard it for the first time when it was given for free on her site I was afraid I wouldn´t like her new material at all. But then this album is full of great songs, apart from that.
November 11, 200816 yr Author this is defo a fantastic and it hurts seeing what is going on. there is little promo for the single (IMO the wrong choice now i have heard the whole album) and album. this will flop badly, but hopefull Dido's fanbase will help the album scrape top 15 on most charts. i think that LNF should have been released, it was very popular when it became available highlights of te album are Quiet Times-, Us 2 Little Gods, Northern Skies, Look No Further and Grafton Street. what Dido needs to do is release the 2nd single in December to help the album sell and do proper promo. Anastacia is doing this.
November 27, 200816 yr Definitely a fantastic album, I love "never want to say it's love" and "it comes and goes".  Will post my full review later.
December 11, 200816 yr Well there's not been much activity here has there? And I'm coming in a couple of weeks late... Anyway, it's looking like the album could be heading for Flopsville. Undeservedly, but perhaps not surprisingly. Although Dido's name alone should have guaranteed sales, the album is really lacking a killer single a la White Flag. I've seen numerous comments thrown around places that "Don't Believe In Love" was a weak comeback single. And it is, which will account in part for the lower-than-expected sales. The problem is however, that despite it being the dullest track on the album, "Don't Believe In Love" is also the only real radio-friendly track on there. It's hard to see how she's going to resuscitate this. Another criticism that could be made with the album is that it takes a long time to make any impact. The tone of the album remains sombre and morose throughout, and at times the tracks just grind on and merge all together in a depressing mulch. Although variety isn't always a good thing, I think in this case Dido could really have done with a few upbeat or dancey numbers in the same vein as Take My Hand or Sand In My Shoes. It would have broken the album up nicely, and perhaps emphasised the beauty of some of the other tracks. She could quite easily have got away with a slightly longer album to include these. She also needs to let loose with her vocals a bit more. On the previous two albums there were always a couple of tracks where she'd try her best to belt out (the final choruses of Here With Me, All You Want and Don't Leave Home). Not so here. She is sticking to the quiet, whispery voice throughout. It suits some of the tracks perfectly ("The Day Before The Day"), but still it would have been nice to have heard her stretch herself a bit more vocally. At times it just sounds like she's bored. On the plus side, after a while, some of the tracks REALLY grab you and rank amongst her best. I've seen media reviews naming "Grafton Street" as the highlight for really getting across the bleak but emotional essence of the song. I would say "The Day Before The Day" also achieves this just as well, if not better. "It Comes And It Goes" is another grower, the contrast between the verses and the stripped down choruses really works well. My favourite has become "Northern Skies". It just sticks in your mind. Dido's always been great with the chilled-out, euphoric sound, and this is right up there. A pretty perfect album closer. Although some may just cast aside the album as more of the usual "coffee-table" fodder that Dido is often accused of throwing out, I've enjoyed some of the subtle changes in style. There's less of a focus on MOR radio pop, and I like the understated orchestra that features throughout. It's also been pleasing to note that Dido has had a more prominent role on the instrumental side of things. This should (but probably won't) boost her credibility with the public and media. RANKING: 01. Northern Skies 02. The Day Before The Day 03. It Comes And It Goes 04. Grafton Street 05. Burnin' Love 06. Quiet Times 07. Never Want To Say It's Love 08. Let's Do The Things We Normally Do 09. Us 2 Little Goods 10. Look No Further 11. Don't Believe In Love
December 28, 200816 yr Got this for Christmas and I have to say I love it. Its not a commercial album and thats why it hasn't done well commercially-Dido has done what she wanted and not what she thinks everyone wants and I love it. I'm loving Grafton Street, It Comes and Goes and Quiet Times.
