18 14 TUBULAR BELLS II - MIKE OLDFIELD

19 NE BEST...II - THE SMITHS

20 11 BOOM BOOM - JOHN LEE HOOKER

SIMPLE MINDS and their greatest ruling the chart in 1992..BON JOVI at 2, also the title of the single..MICHAEL BOLTON covered a selection of other people`s hits..MADONNA got EROTICA to the top, with various PG and 18-rated versions. Some may have bought the fantasy photo naughty book "Sex". CHRIS REA had an odd title, peaking on the first week..AC/DC were doing good, rather like this year..R.E.M.were becoming superstars, which seems to have slipped in 2008..ABBA`s GOLD the first time..NEIL YOUNG giving us the easy HARVEST MOON..likewise old Glo, GLORIA ESTEFAN..BOYS II MEN listed 3 words altogether..TASMIN ARCHER started well, but success was short-lived..PRINCE became the SYMBOL character..SHAMEN were hanging up and down..MIKE OLDFIELD re-run the old album, using new studio tehcnique...BELINDA CARLISLE gave us her greatest..JOHN LEE HOOKER thought he was BASIL BRUSH! Surprisingly ULTIMATE COUNTRY was doing well, on the compilation front.

39 31 ANYWHERE I ROAM - METALLICA

40 28 GIVE ME YOUR BODY - CHIPPENDALES

45 NE OH NO NOT MY BABY - CHER

46 NE LOVE CAN MOVE MOUNTAINS - CELINE DION

47 23 COLD - ANNIE LENNOX

48 24 NOTHING TO FEAR - CHRIS REA

49 NE BITCHIES BREW - INSPIRAL CARPETS

50 38 BAKER STREET - UNDERCOVER

BOYS II MEN took 9 weeks to get to the top in 1992...CHARLES AND EDDIE did wonders for Independant Radio`s playlists...ARRESTED DEVELOPEMENT did well in sales, but not radioplay..Pretty much the same for the SHAMEN..RAGE covered BRYAN ADAMS..VANESSA PARADIS return, without her taxi..UNDERCOVER covered ANDREW GOLD circa 78..AMBASSADORS OF FUNK, was a rather strange act name, for the SUPERMARIO BROTHERS game..BIZZARE INC, were dancing well..ERASURE gave us a re-mix of an 85 piece..IRMA FRANKLIN came back from 67..Down for TASMIN ARCHER`s best..FELIX, went crazy in the house..MICHAEL BOLTON had a single from said Album..as did MADONNA..SHAKESPEARS SISTER still could not follow up "Stay"..TAKE THAT were in love form, in early times..WEDDING PRESENT peaked much higher in this MRIB top 50, on their mission to issue a new single every month..EN VOGUE went rather acieedy..ELTON JOHN started to get sentimental..EXTREME could not follow up "MORE THAN WORDS", no matter what..GO WEST were faithful, and a healthy top 20 hit..LITTLE ANGELS were not covering the SPECIALS, it was a different song..TETRIS and DR SPIN was really one MR LLOYD WEBBER..POING annoyed us, as much as the title..ROXETTE were drying up..ZUCCERO teamed up with PAVAROTTI..INXS performed "TASTE IT" live..DR ALBAN was still long-running "IT`S MY LIFE"..CHER covered an oldie, yet again..METALLICA gave us rock..INSPIRAL CARPETS were not saluting Halloween..ROY ORBISON (the late) gave us another minor hit..JON SECCADA could not get a 2nd big hit..CHIPPENDALES gaves us their bodies, remember the GENERATION GAME performance?..GARY CLAIL had his ON-U Sound System..PM DAWN was not doing well after 1991..DINOSAUR JNR should have been bigger...The FRED E.P. gave us a salute to RIGHT SAID FRED with ST ETIENNE doing I`M TOO SEXY for one..

Check that out, while waiting for the singles for this week...

Hi Dave. Thanks for doing this again. Fantastic that Mamma Mia is still top 10

Thanks for posting.

Simple Minds were at their peak back in the early/late 80s, one of my favourite bands at the time, it seems they have withered away now.

Shame isn't it? Great band. I don't think they ever actually split up.
Great Harry Hill's in the top 10 TV programmes and Dead Set in the TV based DVDs ! :cheer:
Yeah love Harry Hill too.

Shocking to say Tom, I remember the first time around in May 1976. I was doing a spot of work down at the Beeb. One Sunday I did a stint with Simon Bates (who was sitting in on the Top Twenty show, for Tom Browne). From memory "Let Your Love Flow" was a top 20 entry that week at 20, and kicked off the programme. Bernie Andrews produced that show, and back home in Wimbledon I have a recording of that very show! ;)

Nice. Didn't know they only broadcasted the top 20 back then. Do you know the history of the chart show on Radio 1? Love to hear some old airchecks...

Yep Tom, just the top 20 then...the full top 20 squeezed into 60 minutes! No silly chat then!

If you want to check back on history of the BBC chart..which started in 1957 on the BBC Light Programme, and grew to a top 20 in 1958, a top 30 in 1967, and finally top 40 in 1978. Check out Radio Rewind`s website. I believe it`s www.radiorewind.co.uk/radio1

Wow, that's really great, thanks Dave :)

Ouch for P!nk' single! :o I guess the album dented its sales. Glad its holding up though :D

Hmmm Il Divo could be no1 album next week then? :/
