I think Dido has shifted into that Melua/Borah Jones catergory where they don't need a huge single to shift albums. It's obvious she's going to be no1. Always has been even when the single flopped.

Though I doubt she'll sell a huge bunch and I also doubt that she'll come anywhere close to selling a million.

Beyonce will be top 5 I think. She has the SCD boost at best and her last two albums have made the top 3.

Nickelback will be low top 10 along with the hideous N Dubz and possibly Tom Jones I'd hav e thought.

Maybe Leona's reissue will make the top 5 due to 'Run' not being on ituens but I personally find reissues a ripoff and a disgusting thing to do so I hope in all honesty that it bombs.

I think it will definitely be Dido now. I've just been to Tesco and they have it as their '#1 album' and they've also got a big cardboard display of it like they did with Coldplay and Oasis earlier this year. The only thing I would say is that it didn't look like anyone was buying them as the shelves and display were quite full. But maybe it has been selling so well they have to refill it?

I also saw a big poster in the window for Blockbuster advertising the album. Dido, herself, might not be making an effort to promote this but her record company are certainly making sure the country knows Dido is back.

Does anyone know if Dido's album is cheap in either Tesco or Asda?

I think it was just under £8.99 in Tesco (though I can't be sure), £7.99 in Blockbuster and £8.99 in HMV. I haven't been to an Asda this week though.

Ta. Asked because sometimes one or the other does a big new release for £6.97. :o Got Oasis for that. I'll go to Asda tomorrow.

Acording to early projections the UK´s biggest seller of the week will be the Now compilation (which doesn´t count to the main chart), with Dido heading for the #1 artist album. Not only Beyonce is not #1, but she is also behind Il Divo, only at #3... That would be a fantastic scenario, to see Beyonce failing miserably with a huge single and Dido going tops with an unpromoted album :)

Unpromoted by Dido, yes, but I've seen her album advertised all over the TV (Beyoncé's too to be fair) and Dido is the one with big displays, posters and more copies of her CD than any other album in the shops - particularly the supermarkets where her typical housewife buyer will be. I'm not saying her album wouldn't have been a success without the "look at me" displays in the shops, but it's a slightly unbalanced playing field. I guess it's down to supply and demand though...

Dido was in Morrissons for £6.97 (i think, it was £6 something)

Beyonce was £9.97

Slightly off topic, but are any supermarkets selling Now 71 on the cheap. Now 70 was under £10 in Tecso when it came out, but its back to around £12.99 this time :(

Dido is ahead in the midweeks, but just 500 copies separate her from Leona, the #2.

Beyonce is no threat. She´s flopping. Like I said, she might have huge hits but isn´t credible enough to get people buyng the whole album...

Beyonce's album has had some poor reviews. The BBC especially gave it a bashing but Dido got 8 out of 10.
Poor Beyonce, deeserves better with such a great album. Really hope Leona can get to #1, Dido shoudnt be at the top with such a dull album.

I get a rather sneaky feeling leona will do it!

I mean 500 copies isn't very many, also Leona has performed on the X-factor plus Dido had huge pre-orders from the last month maybe even further.

Don't forget many hard core Dido fans would have pre-ordered ages and ages ago and therefore that's what has made her sales soo high in the first day, sales may start to decrease now.

Leona's album wasn't available for pre-order for ages and obviously "Run" is still fresh in everyone's minds she could easily have a strong lead by the end of the week!

We will just have to wait and see...Beyonce is bound to climb into top 5..Her album wasn't featured on IIWAB and it is now so she's already at #7!

It honestly could either be Leona or Dido I don't Think beyonce will manage it!

Oh, the irony of that coming from a Leona Lewis fan...

Remind me how many upbeat tracks Spirit has again?

Have you actually listened to Leona's album? Coz if you have then you would know that it has quite a few Up/Mid tempo songs. Whereas Dido, is Well known for being Dull & Boring and I have heard clips of her new album, I loved 'Life For Rent' (album) and this new one is awful in comparison! Leona's album maybe a bit ballad heavy, but at least they have some beat to them, which make them memorable. Whereas I can't even remember anything from Dido's album! *Goes back to listen to the clips again*

Woo, great for leona. Didn't expect #2 in the midweeks. Would be great if she could get #1 again with the same album!

Why do posters have to slag off other artists? Not just this one post but the Dido fans slagging off Beyonce and Leona etc

They're not in a competition. People like what they like and buy what they buy.

And what has being upbeat to do with not being dull????

IMO, Beyonce and Britney are dull even with their upbeat tracks. Not everyone is a teenager who only listens to party music...

Anyway, the big irony of the week is that Dido´s album has been launched without any promo, after a media absence of 5 years, and with a flopping single that failed miserably at radio, yet she achieved to:

1) sell 2 times more in the first day as Beyonce, who has the current biggest hit of the moment and promoted her ass off.

2) sell on the 1st day almost the same as Sugababes album did in its first week entirely, despite the Sugas had an airplay #1 and promoted everywhere.

So yeah, Dido has shown her potential is unique among pop females. It wouldn´t be fair to expect she would achieve the magical numbers that Life For Rent had without a mere TV appearence to back this album, and with the lead single being the lowest airplay hit of her entire career so far (even the 4th singles from her previous album had more airplay the DBIL...).
