Because solo Spice has very little value at all in the UK beyond a small fan base and arent exactly known for attracting thousands of people to their shows or really successful albums... Hell, beyond Mel C, none of them are even know as touring/live acts.

Emma didn't sold out the Albert Hall. Not even close, and a lot of the tickets were sold at cheap/Groupon prices the week of the show to fill it up a bit more. The upper seats (where I was) were very empty. The Royal Variety show is not a Melanie C show either, so the success of that doesnt fall on her.

I know we like to support them but we gotta be realistic here. The Spice Girls as a group are a shoe in pretty much everywhere they want to be. As solo artists, only Mel C and Emma are seen as, at the very best, C-list.

Melanie C might have been Top10 with her last album, but where did she fall to after the first week? Have you seen her streaming/youtube numbers?... Sorry to say but she is not a well known solo artist beyond her core fanbase which is already very limited anyway...

I mean this isn't the Emma Bunton show either so I don't get your point?

May I also point out that you commented on how the show was packed and when I said back then that there was actually empty seats so wasn't packed you called me on it Mr!!! Now you say it was very empty where you were sat, make up your mind mate!

I also think that yes you are right as solo acts they are very much C-list however their names are still big enough to warrant them getting gigs because c-list or not everyone knows who Geri Halliwell, Mel B, Melanie C and Emma Bunton are (and of course Victoria Beckham but then she is hardly c-list)... I mean Melanie actually had a first week sales on comparison with many "successful" acts and her album sold on par with many acts on major labels in the end which is no small feat on an independent label at the end of the day. I see the girls are very much like Boy George, the Abba girls and other acts from huge groups who are hardly setting the charts alight on their own but still very much household names.

The Royal Variety show is not a Melanie C show either

Of course, but a "C-list artist" doesn't get booked to the The Royal Variety Show. You are underestimating her.

As for her second week chart position, a lot of albums fall out of the chart after their first chart week. Even Spice 25 did.

Yes Mel C is a legacy act, meaning that she doesnt sell and is not seen as 'current'. Sorry, im not underestimating her. She is well perceived in general nowadays but she is not a big current act.

I didnt say it was very empty, I said the top sections werent full and a lot of tickets were sold on the cheap at the last minute! But overall she sold ok, but then again, she is not a touring/live act, that is the reality...

Geri, Mel B, Mel C and Emma (and Victoria) are well know individuals because of the Spice Girls. Put the group on a line-up and it will generate attention. A Mel C or Emma Bunton solo slot isnt going to attract many people, specially when the goal is selling huge tickets and making the most money for a huge charitable cause.

Ultimately, I think Mel C could have done it and so could Emma if the line up wasnt as strong as it is for the cause that it is.

No one from the 90s is current speaking about streaming or selling records. Even Madonna or Mariah are not current but they are two icon.
Both Madonna and Mariah sell records still. They have millions of followers and their streaming numbers are still huge for them. Emma has 200,000 followers on Spotify. You cant compare, sorry

I am not compare Emma with Mariah. I am taking about artists from the 90s are not current.

Madonna and Mariah do not sell nowadays ten or twenty million records even with streaming and downloads.

Why are people talking about Emma performing at this concert either way? She doesn't have anything out to promote. It's not like she regularly tours like Mel C either, so there'd be no reason for her to perform.

It is a charity concert you don't need anything out to promote to perform.

It baffles me people who are obsessive fans and follow their solo careers aren't able to step outside the fandom for a few minutes to see how the 4 girls as solo acts/artists are pretty much non entities. No one from the general public could name a Melanie C song that has been released since 2001 or even knows/cares she still releases music. Emma most people will think is a radio host than artist.

They aren't getting any high profile solo performances like a big charity concert of this size no matter how much people sit on a forum saying 'she should be performing'.

Can I just say that my post that started this entire discussion was actually intended to be lighthearted/funny, not serious? I know that Emma’s realistically not going to be asked to perform in a charity concert in 2022. For my personal tastes, she’d certainly be the best artist on what looks like a dreadfully boring line up, regardless of their apparent A List status, so I joked that I’d much rather she was performing than hosting. Sadly her solo music career didn’t end up being long lasting. It’s so boring to me that it’s more likely you’ll see a Spice Girl be a host or a judge than a performer, these days.

I doubt I’ll watch this concert anyway, not even for Emma. This might be a little shocking coming from me, but I don’t particularly rate Emma as a TV or radio personality, despite how long she’s done it for.

Maybe she will understand how tough it is to be an Emma Bunton fan -_-

Imagine being THE Flawless Spice and end up with almost 20 years of TV and radio work instead of gracing the world with your POP STAR talent
