Sir Terry Wogan and Aled Jones are to release a Christmas single to raise money for BBC Children In Need.

The duo have covered the Bing Crosby and David Bowie classic 'Little Drummer Boy/Peace On Earth' in support of the charity.

After enthusiastic support from fellow Radio 2 presenter Chris Evans, several record companies showed an interest and the track is set for release on December 8.

"It was a fantastically surreal experience recording at Abbey Road Studios with Sir Terry Wogan and, with tremendous support from the Chris Evans Show, the song is gaining momentum daily," Jones said in a statement.

"I don't know if this wave of support will take us all the way to Top Of The Pops but we're having a lot of fun helping raise money for Children In Need."

Wogan added: "Aled Jones sings like the canary that he is but listeners may also detect my croaking in the background and wonder if it's a rumbling of the stomach!"

The single will feature three bonus tracks from other personalities at the station. Clare Teal has recorded 'Swing On A Star', Sally Boazman sings 'Puff The Magic Dragon' and Mark Radcliffe covers 'Right Said Fred'.

A minimum of £1 from each CD sold will be given to the charity, while 20p per download and 60p per bundled download will be donated.

Hes a total legend

I'm not really a fan either, and Peace On Earth/Little Drummer Boy is one of the worst Christmas records of ALL TIME

Also there must be an alterior motive for this - since it's for CIN, do you think they knew the McFly single would flop?

Terry Wogan is a British legend. Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth imo is a unique xmas song bringing together 2 legends of the industry and it is a great song. U may be Right about the McFly bit tho' ;)

I'm not denying Bing and Bowie are legends, I love Bowie. But there isn't an ounce of Christmas cheer in the whole thing, it's so calculated. And David was completely high throughout the whole video.

All hail Terry!

It would be a joy for this to be the Christmas number 1...

Well only if the Hives & Cyndi Lauper can't do it ;-)

Anything but fxxking X-Factor

I agree with the majority, awful song to cover but hope it does well

if it gets to #1 would Wogan be the oldest 'singer' to get to the top???

Mark Radcliffe covers 'Right Said Fred' - so I'm guessing that will be Bernard Cribbins rather than Deeply Dippy (whereby the Fairbrass Brothers invent Britpop) or You're my mate....so seeing Radcliffe's broadcast seem to consist of him going um-ey-erh for about half an hour maybe he should have covered Scatman John instead!!!

Apparently John Sergeant (Strictly) is releasing an xmas single too.

Quite a few novelty ones this year.

Wogan has an audience on Wake up To Wogan of nearly 8 million.

Assuming around 80% of people who buy his single are loyal Wogan listeners and 20% others, if 1 in 100 of his audience buy it in week 1, that would give total sales of 100,000 and probably a number 1.

Not heard it yet. I will have to start waking up to Wogan!

I'd be surprised if he can sing!

I guess that isn't the Aled off of Radio1

If it raises money anyways good luck to em

It's Aled Jones of 'Walking In The Air' fame, also a R2 presenter.

Oh god it's awful! Terry can't sing for toffee! Maybe for a chocolate orange though....
The song is so shockingly bad that I just have to buy it  Would love this to keep the X-Factor winner from getting the Christmas #1!
