Does anyone remember what singles started off as the B-Side and then became the A-side?

That is where the single was flipped - NOT where the B side was re-issued in its own right

I'll start you off:

Rod Stewart - Maggie May - originally B side of Reason To Believe

Four Pennies - Juliet - originally B side of Tell Me Girl

Hot Chocolate - You Sexy Thing - originally B side of Blue Night

Sandie Shaw - Girl Don't Come - originally B side of I'd Be Far Better Off Without You

Anymore anyone?

Off the top of my head:

Famous B-sides that ended up being reissued in their own right:

The Smiths - How Soon Is Now (originally B-side of William It Was Really Nothing)

New Order - 1963 (originally B-side of True Faith)

Oasis - Acquiesce (originally B-side of Some Might Say)

Famous B-sides where the single was flipped for the B-side to become more successful:

Cliff Richard - Move It (B-side of Schoolboy Crush)

Gloria Gaynor - I Will Survive (B-side of Substitute)

Kraftwerk - The Model (B-side of Computer Love)

Nena - 99 Red Balloons (B-side of 99 Luftballons)

I remember my dad buying Dire Straits' "So Far Away" single in April 1985. The B-side was a song called "Walk Of Life" which of course became an ever bigger hit when released as a single in its own right 9 months later!

There are a handful of times where a record has been flipped part way through its chart life as a deliberate part of the promotional campaign for a release.

Rick Astley's "When I Fall IN Love" was the listed side up to Christmas 1987. After Christmas "My Arms Keep Missing You" was the listed side. Also in the run up to Christmas in 1984 and 1998 respectively "Last Christmas" by Wham and Heartbeat by Steps were the official A sides. After Christmas the official A sides were "Everything She Wants" (in a specially released remix version and new picture cover) and "Tragedy". However, unlike Rick Astley, these songs were listed on the chart from day one.

McFly - Transylvania was a B-Side to Star Girl and an Album track before it topped the charts in 2007!

Feeder - Just A Day was a b-side to Buck Rogers i think...later to be released as it's own EP single

Feeder - Shatter was a b-side to Tumble And Fall a few months prior to it's release. It was left off Pushing The Senses as it didn't have the right 'feel'. After a petition from fans, it was released as a doubble a-side with Tender and reached #12 in the charts.

^_^

EDIT #1: Just A Day was actually the b-side for Seven Days In The Sun

EDIT #2: Ooops, sorry, just read first post

Im not sure this counts but Queen's We are The Champions had We Will Rock You as its B side.

I can't remeber if We Will Rock You was ever listed as the A side afterwards.

No, "We Will Rock You" was always the B-side though I'm sure most people think it was an A-side now.
