Posted November 27, 200816 yr Anyone notice that as soon as the biggest boy band disappears from the top of the charts a new one emerges? It is as if there is only space for one at a time: Take That (until the breakup): all 8 number one singles: July 93 - March 96 (band disbanded!) Boyzone: all 6 number one singles: Oct 96 - May 99 (highest charting single since number 3) Westlife: all 14 number one singles: May 99 - Nov 2006 (highest charting single since number 3) Take That comeback: all 3 number ones and counting: Nov 2006 - ??? November 27, 200816 yr That is a very odd coincidence! Even the months are correct in this theory. However, Blue I'm sure were around during Westlife time? :P
November 27, 200816 yr Boyzone's last #1 was actually a couple of weeks after Westlife's first. But still - it is quite an interesting fact!
November 27, 200816 yr Based on music, I never really think of McFly as a boy band, they are quite similar to many bands who are branded normal or rather not boy bands. Tbh, I just think of boy bands as a group of young men who dance about while singing and don't play instruments. Though you could also argue that they're young men in a band, but that doesn't work for the way people brand other bands at the moment and to be honest, Take That aren't 'young' any more.
November 27, 200816 yr Phixx :kink: They were awesome  David Bowie's favourite boyband, I heard :) Also you forgot A1 and 911, who both straddled the Boyzone/Westlife era :kink: Edited November 27, 200816 yr by TomKay
November 27, 200816 yr some of 911's songs are a bit of a guilty pleasure for me...More Than A Woman, Private Number, Party People...Friday Night :kink:
November 27, 200816 yr Perhaps we need a definition what a boy band is... :naughty: Regardless the definition, I hope nobody here will come to the idea to call Beatles a boy band :D .
November 27, 200816 yr Perhaps we need a definition what a boy band is... :naughty: Regardless the definition, I hope nobody here will come to the idea to call Beatles a boy band :D . And don't forget The Monkees! Norma
November 27, 200816 yr No mention of 5ive? Awful. Keep On Movin' is obviously a pop classic the only other song of theirs I like is the one that nobody remembers: Until The Time Is Through  their post Keep On Movin' output is amongst the worst music ever released...We Will Rock You, Don't Wanna Let You Go, Closer To Me, Rock This Party :puke: Let's Dance was alright I suppose, I liked the cardboard cut out of one of them in the video
November 27, 200816 yr but these bands never had any real success outside of the uk and ireland.. boy bands like N'sync , backstreet boys have had world wide success
November 27, 200816 yr Author Hi! Thanks for your replies. Yes McFly is the only fly in the ointment! Maybe I should have defined my band definition better. As Sasha said McFly played instruments too. So my observation would apply to the biggest boy bands who do not actually play as a "band" with instruments! That would therefore not include Radiohead or Oasis. Other boy bands mentioned (Blue, 911, A1 East 17) would not count as this is about the "biggest".boy bands and I think Blue had the most number ones, but even that was "only" three.
