Our opinions on the Ashworths clearly differ - I don't think Rhys has ever contributed anything to make a storyline 'enjoyable'. He's dreadful.

Suzanne won't leave a hole, no, because she's more of a supporting player, but she was highly likeable nonetheless and I did like the fairly casual angle they took on the Darren affair storyline.

The character's dreadful in that you want to flush his head down a loo - but that's where it can be enjoyable - if the writers were clever, they could turn him into a bit of an Ian Beale love-to-hate figure. Rhys is similarly weedy, sneaky and arrogant, but with occasional sensitive moments.

I'll admit he's diabolical in most other storylines though, particularly romance ones. Mind you, it doesn't help that he's constantly matched up with charisma black holes like Beth and India (who incidentally is another how-the-f***-was-she-not-axed-first?!).

i will miss Suzanne... Just waiting for Ricky to be axed along with Duncan!

I quite like India tba.. think she's alright!

I really don't mind India at all. I liked her little battle with Jem the other week too.

And I REALLY like Duncan. I think he's great at the comedy value. That little bit when Suzanne and Neville announced they were patching things up and moving away and Duncan shook Nev's hand and said "the best man won" was just brilliant. Can't understand whatsoever why nobody seems to like him.

I couldn't stand Duncan to begin with. He's actually grown on me a little throughout the Ricky storyline - there's a nice side to the character beyond the initial "oh-look-another-arrogant-twit-just-what-Hollyoaks-needs" impression.

Hollyoaks Monday 5th July (Pauls First Eposide) 1.19m E4- 551k

Hollyoaks Tuesday 6th July 1.3m E4-569k

Hollyoaks Wednesday 7th July 1.04m E4-371k

Hollyoaks Thursday 8th July 959k E4- 423k

I don't know Fridays but i'm dreading for it now:|

What do you do that for Theresa?? I miss Suzanne too  Glad Duncan stayed, he's so funny!

I'm loving Theresa at the minute. Genuinely thought her being the murderer would kill her character but it's brought a new lease of life to her, and I can see her being the 'Lisa Hunter', 'Hannah Ashworth' of the show soon enough, if Jorgie decides to stay with the show for so long.

Oh and I'm in the pro India camp too. Everybody on DigitalSpy likes to say how she's a dire actress but I've always not understood it. I think she's pretty good tbh, and hella pretty.

OMG does carmel know no

Yes

I'm LOVING the new cast. Mitzeee has so much potential :D
Mitzeee is amazing, hope she stays a long time!
They're really aiming for a lot of people, there's some annoying kid who thinks he's an alien :/ I don't understand. I've only just started to watch it again (thursday and friday)

Kevin is meant to be an alien I think  I thought at first Elliot was seeing things until he introduced him to Kris and Nancy. The bit when Kevin met Cheryl was hilarious!

"Proxima Centura... Isn't that in Italy?"

And when Kevin touched Cheryl's boobs! I think Gilly and Steph are such a sweet couple as well

So what are we thinking of NuHollyoaks?

I'm on two sides. On the one hand, the show LOOKS good - there's been a few episodes where they've used some mood lighting, and it's very effective.

On the other hand, the cast overhaul is TOO great at the moment. Characters come and go in soaps, that's the nature of the beast. But essentially 50% of the cast have only been in the show a few days, and it takes time to actually give a stuff about any of them. Right now, I couldn't give two hoots that there's a stroppy teenage girl running about in a boy's hoodie.

And I really don't like the feeble manner with which the departing characters are being dispensed with. Take last week; Zak, Kris and Jake's exit was DREADFUL. Completely rushed, no build up, no big farewells bar the quick Steph/Jake hug. It would have been nice to actually see Kris say farewell to Nancy and Elliott, Zak to Michaela, Jake to his mum etc.

In any other soap, three long-running characters leaving in the same episode would have been an EVENT. Hollyoaks carried it out like an afterthought.

Victoria Atkin (Jasmine) is a really good actress imo, she's much better than Jem. As a whole, the Costello's are a great family, Jem is the only one I'm not keen on but she arrived before so I won't count her. Also, at Mand from the H&A BrightHouse ad playing Veronica - she is terrible!

The bit i did like about that exit was that Zak and Michaela didn't say goodbye, when she saw him go off in the bus it was quite emotional,
