She hasn't been in it loads but the scenes she has been in she's been outstanding imo. The scene before she killed Calvin aswell, when she was talking to him in Evissa, she out acted everyone else in the entire week imo. All McQueen girls have really shone this week.

Only just started watching  It seems quite a good show, I'll keep watching :)

And this is the beginning of the "new, improved" Hollyoaks.

From Digital Spy:

A future Hollyoaks storyline will see an alien land on Earth and befriend one of the soap's characters.

Kevin the Alien will arrive from Aecyron Proxima Centauri – a red dwarf star in the constellation of Centauri, reports the Daily Star Sunday.

Viewers of the Chester-based soap, which recorded it's lowest ever viewing figures on Friday, will see sci-fi geek Elliot Bevan attempt to convince friends and family that Kevin is a real alien.

"Everyone knows Hollyoaks can get away with different storylines. But having an alien land in the village is just out of this world," an insider told the paper. “The soap’s bosses have to convince viewers that they’re actually watching an alien walking around the village."

“Some of the cast actually burst out laughing when they were told about Kevin. But they have already started filming the storyline so it’s going to happen."

The insider added that boss Paul Marquess is "certain it will be a success”.

Presumably this is either a p***-take dreamt up by a sorry excuse for a newspaper, or deliberate sabotage on C4's part.

WTF

ALIENS

this is Hollyoaks, not Doctor Who

If the alien thing is true it'll be interesting to see how they handle it. I would assume those drugs of Archie's which Elliot trialled have damaged his brain?

It's not all bad news on the ratings front either. It got 1.23m on C4 last night, double the all-time low of 650k last week.

The alien storyline sounds atrocious, what the hell are they thinking? this used to be my favourite soap a few years back, its now the worst of the lot. It'll be axed in the next couple of years I think.
Are you still watching Chris? No way is it the worst soap. Even in the month I've been watching I've noticed an improvement and a lot of fans are saying it's in much better shape than it was six months ago. Neighbours, Home & Away and Corrie all seem MUCH worse to me from the glimpses I've seen of each.
I don't watch it regularly anymore but I still dip in and out now and again. It just doesn't hold my interest anymore, the storylines are so poor compared to say 2006. I don't watch H&A and Neighbours but out of the main four (Corrie, EE, Emmerdale, HO) its definitely my least fave.

Did I fall asleep till April 1st 2011?

Holly Jay Bowes (Michaela McQueen) has left the show.

I'm sorry I really don't agree with this. Hollyoaks is as bad as it ever was. The Calvin plot is the only thing keeping me even slightly interested, but even there the aftermath hasn't been quite as blockbusting as I imagined it would be. I still don't think Theresa is up to much which doesn't help.

The problem simply is a lot of frankly dull or unlikeable characters. I know Marquess has axed a lot, but I don't think they're necessarily the right ones. Of the students, I think it's pretty much madness to let Kris and Zak go, but keep Elliott, especially for the sake of an utterly ridiculous alien plot. The problem with Elliot is he doesn't really have a redeeming feature. He's not the sort of likeable geek that you want to champion, but he's simply moody and rude to everyone.

Similarly, Amy's smug new boyfriend can f*** off, Rae's shown no likeability, Duncan Ashworth is appallingly unfunny (a bit of a hindrance given he's supposed to be a comedy character), Ravi is as wooden as he was when he started, and Anita simply a pain in the arse.

I'm also not convinced that Marquess is the man to turn things around. He's pretty much stated he's going to try and take the show in the Grange Hill direction and totally sideline the adults, which is fine but for the fact that the younger schoolkid crowd are the weakest in the cast.

Whilst Corrie and H&A are all going through stale patches, I don't think the drop in quality has been anywhere near as dramatic as at Hollyoaks. Neighbours perhaps but meh.

Well from everything I've read it sounds like Home & Away is in the worst state of them all but having never watched it during the apparent glory years (whereas I've watched EE, Emmerdale, Hollyoaks and Neighbours religiously at various points over the last decade) I can't say for sure.

I don't agree with you on all of the characters you mentioned there either. Kris is undeniably a big loss but he chose to leave, he wasn't axed. He actually intended to leave a year earlier but Lucy Allan persuaded him to stay on from what I've read (the only good thing she ever did?). I like Duncan too, he gave me quite a number of laughs in last night's episode.

I do however think losing the Ashworths is a big mistake (especially when Rhys, as the only one staying on, is the least likeable!). Suzanne is just glorious and I like Josh too. But not every axing is going to be unanimously supported and I think it's far, far too early to write Paul Marquess off (even if, like you, his DS interview didn't fill me with confidence).

Good. She makes me feel slightly ill.

I've always found Suzanne (or the actress) very OTT, I don't mind her though..

He hasn't shown any intention at all to sideline the adults. What he said was that they are telling teenagers stories (which Kirkwood also did in the glory years), but that the adults will play roles in it too. If you notice, 80% of his new signings have been 20+.

H&A isn't that bad - it's a far cry from the glory days (2003-06 were utterly fantastic), but it's slowly improving. It suffered a lot for a really p***-poor "mystery storyline" last year, but they've got rid of that now. The main issue H&A (and Neighbours really) has is their utter inability to keep any of their cast members for more than a couple of years. Only 4 of the cast (Alf, Irene, Colleen & Leah) have been around for more than 5 years, which would be a pretty bog-standard tenure on a British serial like Corrie or EE. Those 4 are also sorely underused, and little more than background characters now.

Which really I suppose is one of Hollyoaks' problems aswell. The odds are obviously always stacked against them with such a young cast who will insist on getting ideas above their station and trying to crack Hollywood or whatever. Their "veteran" cast are generally their strongest (Cindy, Steph, Darren, Jake, Tony, Frankie), but they are quite often pushed to the background in favour of the latest teen gang. And frankly Steph/Cindy/Darren FAR >>>>> Rae/Anita/Ricky/Duncan.

I can understand Kris then obviously, if he chose to leave. I still don't quite understand Zak though - despite being a bit of an arse the last few months, he's generally one of the more likeable characters.

I agree on Josh, I think there's a lot of potential for his character (as long as he's not paired with the frankly DREADFUL charisma vacuum India). Suzanne though not at all - she's always been one of the more hammy of the adults, and I'm frankly surprised she and Neville have lasted so long.

With

Michaela off, who WILL be a loss, I do wonder if we'll start to see the McQueens begin to split. Bar Theresa, they've all been on there for a good 4 years or so, which is usually the point at which they begin buggering off. I really wouldn't be surprised to see the likes of Gemma Merna or Jennifer Metcalfe head off soon.

The reason Hollyoaks cast changes so much is to fit with the audience really. They only spend five years max at the show usually because that's the same amount of time people spend before growing up kinda thing imo.

Well having slated Hollyoaks the past few days, I will say that I AM looking forward to seeing Steph's cancer storyline play out.

When she's given something to really sink her teeth into, Carly Stenson's the best actress in the cast, so this should be proper heartbreaking.

So far I've found Steph to be pretty vacant and not all that convincing in this storyline so I hope she improves. She's been great in past.

I quite like this Newt and Rae stuff as a background storyline although I was quite convinced that she was going to fall off the wall and I was major panicking! I find it quite surreal watching Hollyoaks how it doesn't play out over the course of a week like other soaps do. Characters don't seem to feature every day of the week, rather flitting in and out. But I suppose it makes for variety.

This EVA is a bit dodgy isn't she? Not terribly convincing after from her although I like Anita. Also Jem is a complete miserable cow. I do hope she's on the axe list (cba checking).
