Posted June 12, 200619 yr I didn't know that Sugababes had released a new single until I saw it in HMV. Even though I personally think that he's a t***bag, I would have expected at least top 10 for Duncan James' first proper solo single. I was really surprised that both hadn't made the top 30.
June 12, 200619 yr Wrong time of the year, that's why it went all pear-shaped All the football songs, pushed all the decent stuff further down, it will happen again this week with Dannii Minogue
June 12, 200619 yr Well, with the Sugababes, you can blame their lowly position on it being the 4th singles from a 800k+ selling album, and poor promotion. As for Duncan, the lack of promo can be used to a point, but the main reason would probably be the fact that he offers nothing different or new.
June 12, 200619 yr is Duncs out then? perhaps the fans are awaiting the album - I have to say I saw him on TOTPs and thought it was cringeworthy not the sort of thing I was expecting from him at all, it seemed very old fashioned cheesy pop in a bad way. Edited June 12, 200619 yr by prettyinpink
June 12, 200619 yr Neither Duncan James or the Sugababes singles themselves are old fashioned cheesy pop anyway, at least not in my opinion. That style of pop isn't popular at the moment. Plus as has been said the Sugababes album has sold loads and Duncan James has left it a bit too late to cash in on being an ex-member of Blue.
June 12, 200619 yr Well, with the Sugababes, you can blame their lowly position on it being the 4th singles from a 800k+ selling album, and poor promotion. And also its a rubbish dreary record, and thats comparing it to other sugababes out put rather than stuff like nelly f! As for Duncan, the lack of promo can be used to a point, but the main reason would probably be the fact that he offers nothing different or new. it one of those records you ignore on radio 2 whilst in the car, and the traffic and the record both pass you by
June 12, 200619 yr Sugababes: 4th Single from a big selling album and it's not as popular as their other ones. Duncan: It's c**p that's it!
June 12, 200619 yr I don't think SB sounds cheesy like Duncan's - but it is a little dull and reminds me of that other slow one they released, a double a side a while back, the video was at a swimming pool - and being the 4th single off an album probably means most fans have it already
June 12, 200619 yr reminds me of that other slow one they released, a double a side a while back, the video was at a swimming pool You mean 'Stronger' ;)
June 12, 200619 yr If both of them had released really great tracks and they'd flopped I think 'is pop dead' would be a legitimate question. Both tracks were mediocre to say the least, and the sales suffered for it. The only lesson to be learned is, whether it's a first or fourth track from an album, make an effort and don't take the fans for granted.
June 12, 200619 yr Sugababes: 4th Single from a big selling album and it's not as popular as their other ones. Duncan: It's c**p that's it! That's how I see it too. Duncan James isn't a great vocalist & the song is outdated & cheesy. Can't see him cutting it as a solo artist, relying on his looks alone. Think he'll be better sticking to presenting. Simon Webbe has been the surprise package from Blue but then his material has been a lot better.
June 12, 200619 yr Sugababes - Sold too many albums. People want new material stuff. Duncan James - Proof that being in a boyband isn't good enough for a hit. You need a decent song as well! :P
June 12, 200619 yr Somethings not right i mean how can somethin like Lee Ryan - Army Of Lovers which is horrible do alot better than DJ when its just as bad!
June 12, 200619 yr Sugababes - Sold too many albums. People want new material stuff. Duncan James - Proof that being in a boyband isn't good enough for a hit. You need a decent song as well! :P cos the hype was biigger nack then?
June 12, 200619 yr Sugababes - Sold too many albums. People want new material stuff. Duncan James - Proof that being in a boyband isn't good enough for a hit. You need a decent song as well! :P maybe he needs to do like Darran Hayes did on his last single where he was billed as Darren Hayes of Savage Garden. maybe he needs to be billed as Duncan James of Blue on the credit label to remind everyone who he is (been a long time in pop years!!) then again he could just rebrand himself as James Blue and hope that old grannies mistake him as the you're beautiful guy
June 12, 200619 yr They would have both been considerably higher if it wasn't for the football rush. Sugababes - 4th single from a huge selling album, not that popular (although god knows why, I think it's one of their best ), the promo stank. Duncan James - As someone already pointed out, he's left it too late to ride from the success and hype of Blue, the song got very little exposure anywhere, the song is a bit flimsy and unremarkable.
June 12, 200619 yr Sugababes selling too many albums is no excuse Their last 2 albums have sold the same yet the 4th singles from those went to no.s 11 and 08 The problem was it is literally the worst song on their album Ace Reject should have been released Or something more summery in general like Gotta Be You
June 12, 200619 yr I really disagree about it being their worst, it always stood out for me on the album and I reckon it's a better ballad than say, 'Caught In A Moment' or 'Stronger'. I really hate 'Gotta Be You', it's totally chavvy and trash, 'Ace Reject' could have been good I reckon, or 'Obsession' (despite the fact it's a cover and wasn't one of the ones re-recorded ...) June 12, 200619 yr Although I like Follow Me Home, I didn't expect it to do anything on the charts. It's a pretty dreary, depressing ballad - not suited for summer amongst all the football songs. It's also their 4th single off a good selling album. Duncan James however, what do you expect when the song sounds like some cast off from the 90's.
