I miss Shabnam aswell. The actress quite due to lack of storyline apparantly, but i wish they'd bring her back.

Shabnam was fabulous, but yes, the actress deserved a better storyline. She starred in a drama about Muslim extremists a year or two ago, and really shined in it.

35. Lucas Johnson (4.47)

 

Lucas was really rather very lucky that he was paired up with Denise. Denise seems to work well with EVERYONE, remember, she even made Kevin Wicks seem watchable.

Although to be fair, Lucas by himself wouldn't have been the most terrible of the recent additions. A man of God who also likes to bash people, and who only occasionally remembers he has a son. Plenty of potential for some juicy entertainment.

Other than that, there's not much to say. The problem with these countdowns is that they always die a little in the middle. The ones who are so good you pee a little at their mention are a long way off, and those who drive you to murder have long passed. Well almost...

35. Jack Branning (4.47)

 

Frankly I'm DISGUSTED that this one even features in the countdown let alone top 40.

One of my pet peeves is when an otherwise decent show decides it has to hire bland planks of wood purely on the basis that they're pretty, and then proceeds to base the entire show around them. (Dennis Rickman anyone?) It's even MORE upsetting when they do with this with planks of wood that aren't even that pretty. Scott Maslen cannot act very well, and is the lovechild of Jeremy Clarkson and Mr Potato Head. He is playing the exact same character he did in The Bill; a copper in a suit with a permanently blank expression who sleeps around a lot. His next role after EE will also be a copper in a suit with a permanently blank expression who sleeps around a lot.

 

Another pet peeve is when scriptwriters spend a lot of time building up storylines and relationships, and then have them all completely forgotten days later. Jack spends the best part of a year plotting to run off and set up a new life with Tanya and playing dad to the kids. Tanya dumps him, and is Jack upset? For a day, and then suddenly he's back in love with Ronnie again. Ronnie cuts him off, Jack's upset for a day, and then is suddenly trying to play families with Roxy. Erm...WHAT? It doesn't help that Maslen has displayed f*** all passion for ANY of these women.

 

And yes, I realise the irony in a fan of Hollyoaks and Home and Away lambasting a show for hiring people for their looks.

Maslen is hot :wub: Apart from that he has no redeeming features. Keep him away from my Tanya and Ronnie. <_<

I don't think he's hot. He seems to have a slobbery gob. Not hot. I totally agree too, the speed he got over Tanya was quite ridiculous. I do think there are moments when he's quite watchable as a character - the odd scene with Roxy, who oddly he has the most chemistry with. Sadly it looks like they're setting it up so that eventually, one day, he and Ronnie have a happily-ever-after. Can't he be killed off?

Oh I'm sure whenever Maslen decides to leave to try Hollywood (he seems the sort), he will be killed off. He's just one of those characters who is so shady and who can't walk down the street without getting involved in some ridiculous headline drama, he'd HAVE to leave in a bodybag.

 

Oh i like Jack suprised he's so low :o However he's acting like an ass atm in EE (has been for a while) but i think he's a good actor. :D

I like Jack tbh, and really wasnt expecting to be this low. I agree though that he might as well just be playing the same bloke from The Bill.

34. Darren Miller (4.53)

 

It will be interesting to see how long Darren can last on the show given the frequency with which EE routinely decides to axe an Miller. I'm beginning to hope the end comes sooner rather than later; EE seem determined to set him on the path of the hammy, cheezy, stereotypical Cockney geeza. They clearly see Darren and Libby as the young Kevin/Denise.

Unfortunately Kevin Wicks is not a character that we need a reincarnation of anytime soon, and Libby just completely lacks the AWESOMENESS of Denise.

Hmm, im not sure about Darren to be honest. He'd be much better if they'd have kept the Millers all together.

33. Phil Mitchell (4.76)

 

To see one of Eastenders', if not TV's, most recognisable faces this low down is strange indeed. One of the longest serving characters on the show, and one who is rarely without a dramatic, high-profile storyline propelling him to the forefront of the show and every TV mag sold in the UK. I defy anyone to deny the contribution he has made to the show; would Eastenders have remained as popular as it has without the Mitchell Brothers going around duffing people up? I doubt it.

Had this been a public poll, he would most likely have had no problem making the top 10 at all. But really it is not completely surprising to see him fail to make an impact on Buzzjack. He has a few things going against him unfortunately.

Firstly, he is quite unattractive. Balding, tubby, red-faced gorillas don't make great poster models.

Secondly, he spawned Ben Mitchell. I'm not sure even that there are many people out there who would be able to recover from that.

And lastly, but most crucially, he is male. We all know Buzzjack's feelings on that.

Maybe if the writers do the sensible thing and match him up with Shirley, his standing will improve. I really believe if done properly, there could be a legendary pairing there (a la Den/Angie, Pat/Frank, Ricky/Bianca etc.) I love the idea of a Phil/Shirley/Camp DemonChild/Heather family setup.

I thought Phil would be higher :o
