December 14, 200816 yr I read on teletext that betting William Hill have said she "may do the unthinkable and sell a million" - not sure if that is for the christmas week, or in total. But i would love it to do a million either way!
December 14, 200816 yr I just noticed that Alexandra's version cuts two verses from the original (and JLS' did too I think)...
December 14, 200816 yr I love the way so many 'X Factor' Fans get excited about the idea that yet another Cover version from that Show will be No.1. Let's see - that's 3 of the last 5 UK No.1's of 2008 that were Cover versions - and all 3 have 'X Factor' connections. No one can pretend that this is a creative time for what is reaching No.1 in the 'Singles' Chart! Anyhow, Simon Cowell says that on 'Advance Sales' alone, nothing will stop Alexandra having the Christmas No.1. Edited December 14, 200816 yr by zeus555

Steve - Against All Odds, Leona - Moment In Time, Leon - When You Believe, Alexandra - Hallelujah (lets face it though Hallelujah, at least sounds christmassy, has a peaceful message and wouldn't sound out of place on a christmas compilation, probably the most inspired choice for a winners cover song. edit: realised you ment that the winners songs, not the 2008 #1s Edited December 14, 200816 yr by Knightr634
December 14, 200816 yr Yerr...I agree with a comment made saying that at least this song sounds a bit christmassy. Its not immediately a known Christmas song, because it isnt, but it has a slight Christmas feel to it, whilst there was no feeling like that with A Moment Like This or When You Believe. I really like this version and song more than any other X Factor single ever. :)
December 14, 200816 yr Shayne Ward's single was a rejected Westlife track. The last original Xmas 1 was Girls Aloud - Sound Of The Underground and that wasn't Christmassy (2002) Mad World was a cover of TFF hit (2003) year later Band Aid re-released DTKIC (2004) and the following conceding years X Factor. (2005/6/7/8) Steve Brook$h!t didn't released until the new year.
December 14, 200816 yr ooh, i didn't know That's My Goal was a Westlife reject. And Sound of the Underground wasn't necessarily a cover, but was it recorded by someone else Will's Evergreen is a Westlife cover though Anything Is Possible isn't a cover is it? Hear'say's Pure and Simple was a cover as well i think Christ, does that mean Michelle's All This Time is the only winners song not to be a cover and truely recorded for the actual show?
December 14, 200816 yr And Sound of the Underground wasn't necessarily a cover, but was it recorded by someone else oops I forgot, yes I remember another girl band had a version of SOTU but it did nothing, so you have to go back to 2000 with Bob The Builder CWFI  2001 was Robbie and Nicole - Somethin' Stupid.
December 14, 200816 yr Anyhow, Simon Cowell says that on 'Advance Sales' alone, nothing will stop Alexandra having the Christmas No.1. He also went on to say 'I don't mean to sound arrogant .... ' Oh and he further went on to 'wish Geraldine luck' with her single! I like you find the excitement and outpourings of its brilliance highly entertaining because I ask myself - would it even make top 100 if it was sung by a girl called Alexandra Burke who hadn't appeared on the X Factor. I know ... I'm the Christmas Grinch! But I'd love to be surprised, just once before I die, by having an unexpected Christmas number one. I mean ... in January 2009 we'll know what the Christmas 2009 number one song will be! Norma

Hopefully it be the last series, as Simon has said he no longer wants to be a judge, but I bet 3 moonths down the line, he changes his mind. -_-
December 14, 200816 yr i think your reading too deep into this! how many of the Bristish public will know/care if the likes of Sound Of The Underground/Thats My Goal/A Moment Like this was orginally sung by or 'ment for' some other artist!

I just find it astounding that the only winner thats been given an original song is Michelle McManus. One in how many of these ITV competitions?
December 14, 200816 yr I'm gonna say its first week will be somewhere in the 400k region. I think she easily has double the popularity of Leon Jackson...

I supose its hard to understand WHY they couldn't get enough writers together to produce a modern-day xmas classic in the vains of 'Fairytale Of New York' or even Mariah Carey's one.
