Posted December 21, 200816 yr Well next Sunday we will find it difficult to find a weekly countdown because the Gruesome Twosome (Fanny and Johnny) will be messing about with a Year End Chart. But it`s only the 28th December! 3 days left! It doesn`t stop Peter Jay and John McManus from giving the weekly preview though. So, here is that info from stores/download sites/pre-order info for the week ahead. Although Duffy spins back up with Mercy, and Warwick Avenue. Mercy is just outside the 50, and MGMT`s Kids is also back up. Heartless and Kanye West is at 51. It is a low entry for Hot Chip/Robert Wyatt in the top 60, as is Kevin Rudolf...and Fratellis are much, much lower...struggling for the 75. On certain download sites New Found Friends "Listen To Your Friends" appears to be doing a bit of shifting, but it doesn`t appear in a combined top 75. Neither does 50Cent "Get Up". But may do later in the week. Here`s a thought...As Gabriella Cilmi climbs, is there anyone that remembers/knows the original which came from Connie Francis in 1962? If you ever get a chance, have a listen to it. It is great, and much faster than Gabriella`s. Last week we had 36 in the 40 on the Singles, and 37 in the Combined Albums. Back on Tues 21st December 1976, Radio Luxembourg came up with this top 30: 01 01 WHEN A CHILD IS BORN - JOHNNY MATHIS (1) 02 04 PORTSMOUTH - MIKE OLDFIELD (4) 03 06 MONEY MONEY MONEY - ABBA (3) 04 18 DR LOVE - TINA CHARLES (7) 05 10 LIVING NEXT DOOR TO ALICE - SMOKIE (6) 06 09 BIONIC SANTA - CHRIS HILL (9) 07 29 DON`T GIVE UP ON US - DAVID SOUL (10) 08 02 UNDER THE MOON OF LOVE - SHOWADDYWADDY (2) 09 11 LITTLE DOES SHE KNOW - KURSAAL FLYERS (16) 10 14 GRANDMA`S PARTY - PAUL NICHOLAS (13) 11 13 WILD SIDE OF LIFE - STATUS QUO (17) 12 03 LIVIN`THING - ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA (11) 13 21 FAIRYTALE - DANA (14) 14 22 THINGS WE DO FOR LOVE - 10CC (15) 15 05 SOMEBODY TO LOVE - QUEEN (5) 16 08 LOVE ME - YVONNE ELLIMAN (12) 17 28 I WISH - STEVIE WONDER (18) 18 26 HAITIAN DIVORCE - STEELY DAN (24) 19 15 GET BACK - ROD STEWART (20) 20 07 LEAN ON ME - MUD (8) 21 25 SIDESHOW - BARRY BIGGS (23) 22 30 DADDY COOL - BONEY M (31) 23 NE YOU`RE MORE THAN A NUMBER IN MY LITTLE RED BOOK - THE DRIFTERS (25) 24 27 KEEP IT COMIN`LOVE - KC AND THE SUNSHINE BAND (32) 25 NE EVERY MAN MUST HAVE A DREAM - LIVERPOOL EXPRESS (33) 26 NE DON`T CRY FOR ME ARGENTINA - JULIE COVINGTON (28) 27 24 IF YOU LEAVE ME NOW - CHICAGO (22) 28 NE RING OUT SOLSTICE BELLS - JETHRO TULL (34) 29 NE HERE`S TO LOVE - JOHN CHRISTIE (40) 30 NE WINTER MELODY - DONNA SUMMER (41) It was quite well worked out for Radio Luxembourg in 1976, because Radio One didn`t announce a corresponding chart, due to the Christmas Holiday. So, Radio Luxembourg were well ahead. I remember hearing this as a vintage countdown on Luxembourg in December 1984, with Peter Anthony on a Sunday night, backed with the top 30 from December 1966. Although Radio One didn`t do a chart, there was one available. I don`t believe it was ever published anywhere. But just for interest I have included that in brackets. It didn`t affect much, apart from Chris Hill who made number 9, and gets a number 10 rating the whole time! Johnny Mathis, and Showaddywaddy were content in their positions. Abba`s "Money Money Money", possibly their best hit became their biggest seller in Holland. Where it is one of the best sellers of all time, up there with the likes of Elton John, Band Aid, and Bing Crosby. In 1976, they became Sweden`s biggest export. At Christmas 76, they were featured in that special interview on Radio One with Tom Browne (a cassette copy, I still posess). Quite a few less heard hits in the chart in 76 too. With Dana, Paul Nicholas, Kursaal Flyers (who couldn`t get the follow up hit, despite radio airplay). Rod Stewart`s "Get Back" never get`s played these days. A very long record, with a bit of the National Anthem featured on it. If you were around in 1969, when the Beatles performed it, on a certain rooftop, you might have thought it strange that Amen Corner went and cut a single version of it, in the early Summer of 69...Guess what? Yep, it became Andy Fairweather-Low`s first flop in 2 years! Best song in the 1976 chart, for me is Liverpool Express and "Everyman Must Have A Dream"...a touch of class, and they came from ATV`s talent show "New Faces".
December 22, 200816 yr On certain download sites New Found Friends "Listen To Your Friends" appears to be doing a bit of shifting, but it doesn`t appear in a combined top 75. Neither does 50Cent "Get Up". But may do later in the week. 50 Cent is already up to #41 on iTunes so he could well be challenging for a top10 place by the end of the week.
December 22, 200816 yr Thanks for posting. Don't know why MGMT's singles become such long runners: MGMT Time To Pretend 35 54-49-61-{35}R(4)-41-49-72-60R(8)-72-75R(13)->10 MGMT Kids 25 60-39-35-{25}-27-33-38-43-49-58-72-71->12 Anyway great for them :D . And why for Duffy too?
December 22, 200816 yr Author Thanks for posting. Don't know why MGMT's singles become such long runners: Anyway great for them :D . And why for Duffy too? The "Rockferry" effect. As the Deluxe version starts to shift a bit.
December 22, 200816 yr Duffy was also on two big shows this week - Royal Variety Performance and the final of Strictly Come Dancing.
December 22, 200816 yr The "Rockferry" effect. As the Deluxe version starts to shift a bit. Ah yes, similar to Rockferry when the standard version was released (which i suppose you were referring to)
December 22, 200816 yr Actually i quite expect for TT to get out of Top 10. Also I expect that Geraldine and Buckley will lose some places...
December 22, 200816 yr Author Actually i quite expect for TT to get out of Top 10. Also I expect that Geraldine and Buckley will lose some places... Both Take That, and Peter Kay are gaining sales. Although Jeff might slip with a slight push. Unlike last New Year week, it will be quite static really. So maybe we won`t miss the weekly top 40 this week, as it won`t be broadcasted much, certainly not on Radio One on Sunday.
December 22, 200816 yr Thanks as always, looks a bit samey to me, hope Snow Patrol cracks the top 40 this week, cracks geddit :P :D
December 22, 200816 yr Thanks as always, looks a bit samey to me, hope Snow Patrol cracks the top 40 this week, cracks geddit :P :D Yes   Edited December 22, 200816 yr by ChristmasRobot
December 22, 200816 yr Dave, you have a couple of typos in there with Take That's album title and Snow Patrol's single title. Looks like the "Best Of The Year" lists are taking an early effect with Duffy and MGMT's climbs. "Mercy" will also be due to its airing on Strictly. I think all three MGMT singles could reach new peaks over the next two weeks...
