Seeing as the last year without an X-Factor Xmas #1 was 2004 (when Band Aid 20 reached #1 with X-Factor-esque predictability), I'm interested to know when people think the next non-X-Factor Xmas #1 will be. Will it be next year, the year after, or even later?

Random poll. I think 2010 though. I think they will exploit it for once more year, and then stop.
I reckon 2010, Simon Cowell did say he will be throwing the towel, but yuou never know he might his change his mind

I think Simon only said he might quit as a judge so the X Factor could go on making money for him even if he doesn’t star on it.

The X Factor can’t go on forever mind but the worry is that it might have a year off only to be replaced by a resurrected Pop Idol or Popstars.

The problem is that at the moment the only singles that sell over 100k in a week are X Factor ones or Leona and Simons not going to put her or Alexandra up against the next winners single.

If Steve Brookstein can shift over 170k and that’s about as worse as a dud winner can get in terms of sales potential. Then it’s going to need something of band aid or wham style charity proportions to block next years winner and how often do they come around?

I don't know how many people are aware of this, but Steve Brookstein's single eventually became a charity single - he said he'd give the proceeds to the Boxing Day Tsunami Relief fund.

I went for 2012.

Don't think it willl be as soon as 2010, but not in the too far distant future -_-

i believe i heard somewhere that x factor is due for 2 more series' which makes the last one 2010 - so i voted 2011!
Random poll - random answer - 2013 :heehee:

A question I often ask myself!

I went with 2011. I don't think Cowell's going to give it up straight away but I think the show's days are numbered. And if he were to leave, I don't think it could continue without him. He is the glue that holds it together! I'm looking forward to the Christmas chart without the X Factor, I hope it's sooner than my guess.

I think it'll be a few years yet. Simon might say he wants to quit as a judge but I bet he never would.

With the latest series hitting all new ratings highs I think it's got quite a few years left in it yet.

I went for 2013. I reckon the show has a good few years life in it yet - aren't we just about to start the 8th series of American Idol?

Every year the show is on there is a 99% chance it will bag the Xmas #1 - even with dud Brookstein sales, it still vastly outstrips what any act (probably Leona excepted) could shift in a week.

They won't can it as it is currently stronger than ever - biggest rated series, biggest viewing for final, biggest entertainment show rating for 5+ years.

im starting to get sick of cover's being chrismtas #1's. They should pull X Factor back a few weeks some year, so the chances of getting #1 are slacker. Dont like christmas songs much but an original song would be good...ballads are popular at christmas right?

I did wonder where this thread came from, when I saw last year's date. lol

I voted 2012, cus no one will be number one cus it will be the end of the world!!!

:yahoo:

This thread is from last year? How many of the [so far] 8 votes for 2009 were actually cast last year?

I vote 2012. Everyone in the UK will still be too interested in the Olympics to be bothered with The X Factor
